(CNN) - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway announced Tuesday that he's running for governor of the commonwealth in 2015.
Conway was the Democratic nominee who ran against Republican Rand Paul for a U.S. Senate seat in 2010. With a wave of tea party-fueled support, the libertarian-leaning Paul beat Conway by 12-percentage points.

After losing to Paul, Conway was re-elected to a second term as attorney general in 2011. He's been open about a gubernatorial bid since his Senate loss.
In his announcement Tuesday, Conway said state Rep. Sannie Overly will be his running mate.
The tweets includes a link to a nearly six minute video where Conway lays out his intentions for the commonwealth if he's elected governor.
"I believe in Kentucky, our people. I believe we can build a future of opportunity that the commonwealth can be proud of. For that reason, I'm announcing I'm a candidate for governor," Conway said in the video.
He also released a video in when declaring his intentions to run for the Senate in 2010.
Current Kentucky Gov. Steven Beshear, a two-term Democrat, cannot run for re-election because of the state's term limits.
