Rubio says humans aren't behind climate change

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Marco Rubio says he doesn't believe humans are causing climate change and doesn't think any action can reverse course.

This as a new White House report indicated that Rubio's home state of Florida is one of the most vulnerable to rising sea levels.

"I do not believe that human activity is causing these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it," the first term senator said Sunday on ABC "This Week," after being asked by ABC News' Jon Karl whether humans were contributing to the heating up of the planet.

"I do not believe that the laws that they propose we pass will do anything about it, except it will destroy our economy," added Rubio, who's seriously considering a bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

Rubio says he's ready to be commander-in-chief

Rubio's latest comments are similar to what he said on CNN last week.

"I think severe weather has been a fact of life on earth since man started recording history. I understand that there's a vast consensus of scientists that are saying that human activity is what's contributing to changes in our climate. I think it's an enormous stretch to say that every weather incident that we read about or the majority of them are attributable to human activity," Rubio told CNN's Bill Weir Tuesday on "CNN Tonight."

Rubio's comments come as President Barack Obama's administration last week declared, unequivocally, that climate change is underway across the United States. The U.S. National climate Assessment Report, released last Tuesday, offered a dire assessment of the impact of climate change, and named Miami as the city most vulnerable to damage from rising sea levels. The report was criticized by many Republican lawmakers.

The U.S. isn't alone in raising serious concerns. The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change came to the conclusion that humans are behind global warming.

In his CNN interview, Rubio knocked the administration's report and criticized the President's efforts on the issue of climate change. Obama has proposed new programs to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, which most scientists say are the major cause of global warming.

"The President is, he's not a meteorologist. Here's what the President needs to be focused on. He's proposing a certain set of policies that he would have to admit if questioned will do nothing. If in fact these scientists are right and it's greenhouse gas emissions that are changing our climate, none of the things he's proposing would do anything to change that whatsoever, but it would have a devastating impact on our economy.

The most recent national polling on climate chanted indicated that a majority of Americans said humans were causing global warming. According to a Gallup poll conducted in early March, 57% of the public said human activities were behind global warming, with four in ten saying natural changes were causing the earth to heat up.

Fifty-four percent of those questioned in the survey said the effects of global warming were already happening. But less than four in ten said that global warming would pose a threat to their way of life.

The poll indicated a major partisan divide, with a majority of Democrats saying they worried a great deal about global warming, but more than six in ten Republicans saying they worried only a little bit or not at all about climate change.

So when did Rubio get his degree in science? Oh wait, he's talking out hi a– like all Republicans so he doesn't need to know what he's talking about.

So, it is "Rubio Fiddles While Florida Drowns." Not even youth is not going to help Rubio win anything, if he continues like this!

I wonder if he will change his mind when most of his state is under water and no longer deserves a Senate seat.

Let me get this straight...A Republican is denying scientific fact....and this is news, why??? This is a daily practice for conservatives.

The first debate, years ago, was whether the climate is changing. Question answered – the. Limate is changing. Second question was whether humans are impacting climate change. It appears that the scientific consensus is that humans are indeed impacting climate change, at least to a degree. Rubio appears to have bypassed the next question – whether we can (or wish to) do anything about it. That's a critical discussion that needs to be held, and saying its too expensive isn't the answer. Not till the debate is held, anyway.

Well... this is progress. Rubio and some of the rest of the GOP are no longer denying climate change ala Inhofe. Now they are simply still ignoring scientific consensus that man is to blame. It's God that is doing all this crazy stuff.

Thank God we have another Republican politician with the scientific expertise to diagnose a serious problem. This is the best example since Sen. Bill Frist diagnosed Terry Schiavo as "not brain dead."

Rubio is simply pandering to the ignorance that is the base of the Republican party.

And this guy wan't to be President? I don't think so. At one time I had thought he might be a worthy Republican in the future, but just shows why we don't want this kind of a Republican. Yes I do vote Democrat, but I can appreciate some Republicans.

The Dems are going to lose the White House over this. There has been no warming in 17 years now and the "hidden heat" is not hiding in the oceans either as they are not expanding. "Inconvenient Truth" is this generation's "Reefer Madness". No one is buying it!

The great thing about science, Rubio, is that it doesn't matter whether you believe it or not. You are wrong. Science says you are wrong.

The GOP. Proudly leading the human race to self-extermination in the name of Jesus.

First the deniers said climate change didn't exist, now with all the evidence they are claiming it exists, but not caused by humans. Next it will be Obama's fault and only the Republicans can stop it...

Let's just forget science and go to GOP politicians for all the answers. Why even have schools and colleges and universities and scientific study when we have rock solid political views based on corporate monies? Leading in their own way, ignore as they please and spout lies and nonsense to be gobbled up and praised by their sheep. And we should all buy it and believe. Hey, it's their world in their mind and we're just passing thru it I guess.

Another stupid comment for a would be presidential GOP candidate who believes he is better than the scientists. We dont really know if this guy is American born or Cuban born. He lied to us then we he insisted that his parents evaded Castro by fleeing Cuba and coming over to Florida but the fact showed his parents were already in Miami even before Castro started to harass those Cubans who were against him. This Rubio is out of his mind.

Since when did Rubio become a scientist? Politicians are supposed to make decisions based on facts made by professionals in the field. Not a gut feeling. And this guy has Presidential aspirations? God help us.

It is so refreshing to read so many pro-climate change believers vs. naysayers. There is hope yet. As for politicians looking to get voted in, it's easy to pull the "dealing with climate change will hurt the economy" card. Many people see financial and other things in the short term and neglect the long-term. Maybe dealing with climate change will effect the economy in the short term and in a gradual manner, but climate change itself will destroy the economy in the long-term if left unchecked.

The History on Earth of Man and what he believes has be mythical and incorrect since he has been on this planet. From believing in many types of Gods to the earth is flat.
The Earth goes through dramatic changes approximately every 26,000 years. Some additional changes have occurred do to meteor strikes, etc.. The magnetic poles change too naturally. no one man has been around long enough to see or record these things in person, but science has determined these things to be true. Man is better than the caveman but still ignorant in the scope of the real Universe and how things are... Over 90% of people on this planet do not understand they are on a UNIQUE ball of dirt moving through space and what that means. They are all caught up in this small little world full of corruption and what they think is life...

I expect anything stupid from Republicans so, this is not a surprise for me. What really surprise me is that still there are people who vote for them, it is just amazing. Anyway this world is going down very quickly, we just got to the point of no return and most of people don't know or they don't care. Rubio is not afraid because is protected by the Bible and probably he went to see the movie Noah so he is booking seats for him and family. Who elect these people?

He is right. There is no evidence that climate change is outside the parameters of normal rhythmic fluctuations. The Lib-Progs declared the debate "over" but it is far from started.

Climate change has matched Solar Activity. The entire "Climate Change" theory never took that into the factors along with the facts that the Earth went though an ICE age and Volcanic age without ANY human involvement. Also taking 100 years of data and basing all your facts off that while ignoring key factors disproving those facts equals an agenda.

And no... it isn't the US causing this. Look at China and their massive population. They dump, pollute, and waste more in a month than the US does in a YEAR. IT doesn't matter what we do because the rest of the world, minus England, is BEHIND us.
