RNC sells t-shirt: 'I'll be damned, I'm a Republican'

(CNN) - The Republican National Committee has apparently embraced a new slogan.

"I'll be damned, I'm a Republican."

The party committee is selling t-shirts boasting the phrase, which originated from Gov. Susana Martinez's personal story of how she realized she was a Republican.

The New Mexico governor, who's running for re-election this year, has frequently shared her story of transitioning from a Democrat to the GOP.

Perhaps most memorably, she recalled the moment during her speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention. She said she and her husband had lunch with some Republican friends and was surprised to find that they agreed on so many things.

"We talked about many issues, like welfare, is it the way of life or hand up? Talked about size of government, how much should it tax families and small businesses? And when we left that lunch, we got in the car and I looked over at Chuck and said, `I'll be damned. We're Republicans.'"

She repeated her story in an email blast Friday from the RNC, saying her team created the t-shirt and added "I want you to be the first to get one."

The shirt can be purchased with a donation of $29 or more to the RNC.

As the nation's first Hispanic woman elected governor and as the chief executive of a blue state, Martinez has been mentioned as a potential presidential contender. She's listed on the RNC's straw poll website of possible candidates.

The shirt also comes weeks after Martinez took some heat over her straight-talking language. Mother Jones published previously unreleased audio recordings of the governor and her aides using coarse language while talking about her political opponents.

Martinez reportedly admitted she's used some four letter words in her life–"I've had to fund the cuss jar a few times"–but went on to blast the news outlet for "peddling false, personal attacks against me, using stolen audiotapes from our debate prep sessions four years ago."

A political statement .... stamped, sealed, and delivered. Yeah. Works for me.

One would have to be living in a bubble in order to be proud to wear something like that. How is this any different?

    "I'm just another damned Republican."

She'd probably be shocked to learn that Democrats feel the same way on the issues she cited. The difference between the parties is how to fix the problems. Republicans seem to think that a tax cut will fix everything, and that the wealth will just trickle down to the middle class and the poor.

    You're poor

@Gunderson – You're poor. So why do you vote for the GOP? You'll need SS and Medicare (you are probably on it already), so why do you vote for the GOP who want to take it away?

The GOP has the poor conservatives fooled.
The rich have demonstrated, as a group, they are not interested in the poor's welfare.
There is no trickle down, unless the rich have been drinking too much beer lately.

Yeah, that, too. But, I also think most all of their rhetoric is just a Trojan Horse to cut taxes for the wealthy, and set this country on the path to becoming a theocratic oligarchy named the United Corporations of America.

He shakes them off of his FEET like the worthless parasites that they are and then he squashes them with his grace and dignity.
    Screw these people.

Lizzie, so if I say cutting taxes for only the rich, in a time of record inequality, I'm looking or getting a handout, based on your intelligence, I'd say I'm likely much more successful than you. Or you could just admit you know that's horse hockey, or your wealthy enough yo benefit from their plans and policies, or your being paid to say this, or your a flaming racist, or your just not too smart, I'm trying to help you out here honey.

The reason I'll vote R this time, and maybe for all-time, is that if you tell a lie to a R, he's outraged; if you tell the truth to a democrat, they're outraged. For example, would you say there is a difference between the terms "god fearing", and "godphobic,?" No distinction=democrat.

@Lizzie: "Isn't that what democrats and liberals been saying now for 6 years, dammed republicans, won't lets us spend us into oblivion, won't let us give everything FREE to everyone who votes for us,:"

Gee, let's see ... was it Dems or repubs who cut taxes during wartime (never done in our nation's history) and who waged two wars and implemented Medicare Part D off the books? Is it Dems or repubs who cling to trickle-down economics, even though it doesn't work (just ask David Stockman, the architect under Reagan: he admits it's a failure)? Is it Dems or repubs who insist that if we would just only give more tax breaks to the rich, they'll create jobs here in the U.S., all evidence to the contrary?

You're a fool or a tool, Lizzie: take your pick.

How is having to buy your own healthcare "free"? While you're on the Internets, go look up the individual mandate and how it was the brain child of the Heritage Foundation.
