Romney calls for NH police commissioner to apologize, resign for Obama slur
(CNN) - Mitt Romney is calling on a police commissioner to apologize and resign after using the N-word to describe President Obama
"The vile epithet used and confirmed by the commissioner has no place in our community: He should apologize and resign,” Romney said Sunday in a statement provided to CNN.

Robert Copeland, 82, is the police commissioner in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire - where Romney owns a home and spends a lot of time.
On Thursday evening Copeland refused to apologize at a town meeting for using the term.
The Boston Herald first reported Romney's statement.

Hard to believe a public official used the N-word to describe the sitting President of the United States and had no problem with his actions. Is this New Hampshire in 2014 or Mississippi 1964.

commissioner Copeland any relation to the Rev? If so, shame on the Copelands.
Although I believe Mr. Copeland should be permitted to have his opinions and the freedom to express them, he must accept that freedom of speech comes with consequences and others are also free to express their opinions of him and his hateful and out-of-date thoughts. Anyone holding public office who is incapable of separating a person from their physical characteristics is not qualified to hold that office. He could have expressed his frustration and dislike of Obama in a number of other perfectly acceptable ways. You can dislike and disagree with Obama because of his policies, how politics and his way of handling things, but not simply because he is black. It's really that simple...
Why should he apologize? Everything he said was true.
Two thoughts: First- good for you Mitt. Second, anyone who thinks race doesn't play a role in many people's irrational hatred of the President is smoking dope.
If he doesn't resign he should be fired by the town. Any apology would be meaningless. Does Wolfeboro have physical standards, ethics standards? If he can pass the physical standards great, if not the obvious is next; he has Failed the Ethics standard of our society.

Come on, Mitt, the police comm is simply exercising his First Amendment right to speak his mind and if the fact that he is right is bothering you then you had better change your politics to liberal dem like the rest of the pukes.
Good for Mitt. A police commissioner is expected to uphold the highest standards of behavior at all times, racism falls well short of the high standards that the American people expect of those charged with enforcing our laws.
That's ok...let him keep that evil heart. He's going to bust hell wide open if he dies and doesn't repent. God doesn't like the N word, cracker, spic, etc....and only an evil and dark hearted person uses those words.
Sad to think that in this day and age we still have this kind of ignorant and uneducated beliefs not only existing but actually being vocalized by an elected official. Unbelievable. I will say that I am not a Romney supporter, but I will commend him on coming out and voicing his opinion on this. I respect him for not just staying silent on the sidelines.
As a life-long democrat, I must confess that Romney could have been president now if he'd followed his own heart, instead of the numbers and estimations of his chosen political party. But he doesn't know how.
A police commissioner sworn to uphold the law and protect the constitution. How can anyone have confident in someone like him. who reveals himself to be a racist.

Copeland, you are one of a group of dinosaurs with hateful and racial attitudes who, thank God, will soon be extinct. You should have learned by now to keep your stupid mouth shut in public. No Willard. He doesn't need to apologize for saying how he feels. Many of us would rather deal with an outright bigot than one that pretends he's not but also believes brown skin is a curse. This guy has always been this way and you know it but now that he's been exposed and your name mentioned, now all of a sudden he should apologize? I doubt this is your first time hearing him say this. After all, you vacationed there during your campaign. Do you really expect us to believe you never heard him say anything like that before??? I bet he says it on a regular basis.
But I do feel he should resign. He doesn't belong in any position of power.

Way to go Mr. Romney. At the commissioner's age and position it would have been a good thing to have allowed himself to mature/grow as much of society matured/grew. When a person's heart changes the mind will follow.

Didn't the CEO of jeep have to buy airtime to tell America that his campaign ads regarding his company was a lie, and that they asked his campaign to stop running the ads, they weren't good for their business, yet he continued to run the ad, very telling, and in line with their entire campaign, lies.
How rich is it that Romney, of all people, should be outraged over the President being disrespected. The entire Republican Party has engaged in an organized character assassination of Obama, including everything from questioning his citizenship, to insinuating he is a Muslim terrorist. They have blocked every effort made by the president, even initiatives which serve their own interests. The police commissioner is an open racist. Romney and company are simply more adept at disguising their racism as political differences.
