Romney calls for NH police commissioner to apologize, resign for Obama slur
(CNN) - Mitt Romney is calling on a police commissioner to apologize and resign after using the N-word to describe President Obama
"The vile epithet used and confirmed by the commissioner has no place in our community: He should apologize and resign,” Romney said Sunday in a statement provided to CNN.

Robert Copeland, 82, is the police commissioner in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire - where Romney owns a home and spends a lot of time.
On Thursday evening Copeland refused to apologize at a town meeting for using the term.
The Boston Herald first reported Romney's statement.

Some may say it's a classy move for Mitt to come to the defense of Obama (and all African Americans) without solicitation. I wouldn't argue. But Mitt would be outclassed easily by Obama, if in return he was endorsed by Obama as the next president of the United States. We know Romney would be a brilliant President.
Who cares?! It's to be expected that someone old is out of time and place. It's normal. Just stop giving this attention. You can't change the opinion of another by treating them like this. Either let them come around
It really seems strange to me that Copeland has been Police Commissioner for many, many years. Most times he ran unopposed. Views like this start early in life. Why hasn't anyone said anything until now? And why did an outsider have to speak up. I'll tell you why. Because the majority of the town feels that way. And the tiny amount of blacks know their places and know that speaking up can lead to irreparable harm and possibly death, so they sit back and take it. Go to every town in America and I guarantee you'll hear talk just like this about this POTUS.
There's a sweet little girl that I work with. I think she's 18, she says she hates Obama because her daddy says he's a Muslim, Kenyan born commie with a fake birth certificate. Racism is a learned behavior. Poor kid... But she still got to stay on daddy's medical.

So A thought thinks just because Mitt spoke up about his racist police chief this POTUS should endorse him? After all the lies and nasty things said and done to this POTUS while Mitt sat silently? Also a venture capitalist that was directly responsible for shipping jobs to China would make a good POTUS? I don't think so. A GOP candidate shouldn't inhabit the WH for a very long time.
Mitt spoke out for one reason only, he's running again in 2016 and doesn't want the stench of Copeland on his Ivy League suit.

This country has double standards. In one case you have a NBA owner who gets fined millions and being forced to sell his team without saying the "N" word. And then you have this guy

It's interesting that many comments here reflect bigotry while trying to support Romney's remarks or while trying to universally denigrate Republicans/conservatives.
The idea that almost all Republicans/conservatives or white people are racists is ridiculous in the absurd. I have never used racial slurs, and to say in every home in America they are used goes beyond hyperbole.
Until "we" stop assuming we know how someone thinks and believes based on skin color, WE will never come together as ONE people. And just as importantly, use some critical thinking people - think about who all had to come together for the last 50 years to make a difference in our laws and effect change in the way we view one another.
Racism is not and never has been a white issue; it is a human issue of ignorance and fear, and it spans the globe!
Re-read your comments. Did you support Romney's actions or did you find fault because of your prejudice against him; did you post something negative about someone or other people, or did you offer solutions? And if you posted negative, what is your source of information? Do you research your FACTS before posting? Or just repeat what the media tells your to believe?

Actually Norman it's very prevalent in the North. Many from the south moved north to work in the Auto Industry and brought their backwoods beliefs with them. Michigan is full of sundown towns. It's just the south is still fighting the Civil War and still thinks the Confederates won.
Simple, make this guy's remaining years miserable. Make him a pariah in the community so he is marginalized and, with any luck, either moves our just retreats into his living room and never comes out. I am not suggesting anyone hurt the guy, but within the bounds of the law, make him understand that he is not welcome and that he is hated as much or more than he hates Obama.

And people cite stats showing that blacks are committing the most crimes in the USA.
Who's doing the arresting? Guys like this. Prosecuting? Guys like this. Judging? Guys like this.
Sitting on the jury? You guessed it. Guys like this.
But those crime stats tell us oh so much.
What do you expect from an all white, rich, republican city? That's why Mittens has a house there! He's just doing the right thing. Putting on the "apologizing act" to quell the fact that he has residence here.
