Man gets 25 years for ricin letters addressed to Obama

(CNN) - A Mississippi man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sending ricin-laced letters addressed to President Barack Obama and other public offices, the Justice Department said on Monday.

James Everett Dutschke, 41, of Tupelo pleaded guilty in January to possessing and mailing the threatening letters, which were dusted with the ricin - a natural and highly toxic compound extracted from castor beans.

He was arrested in April 2013 after an investigation into suspicious letters sent to Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi, and a Mississippi judge.

Separately, a Florida woman pleaded guilty Monday to sending hoax letters containing a white powdery substance resembling anthrax to the offices of Florida Sens. Marco Rubio, a Republican, and Bill Nelson, a Democrat.

In a statement released by the FBI, Kathryn Cohen Allen, 47, of Jasper, mailed the letters in June 2011. Both senators’ offices were evacuated as a result. Tests later showed the substance in the letters was not hazardous.

U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley announced that Allen faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

According to court documents, Allen admitted to sending the letters in an attempt to frame a neighbor, who she said was in an interracial relationship.

Her handwriting was identified on both of the letters, according to the FBI statement.

CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

Letters were sent to members of both parties. I guess there are rather extreme folks out there that don't like either Democrats or Republicans.

  5. ThinkAgain: Don't like Congress? Get rid of the repub/tea bag majority.

They should make Dutschke reimburse the expense of investigating his little stunt, too.

Justice is served for these two and another woman who tried to frame her husband is on the chopping block. These people have no party ties and are just plain mentally ill.

I hope he learns acceptance , tolerance and anger management behind bars. I bet the post office won't have stamps when he get's out.

James Everett Dutschke will be 66 when he gets out of prison , just in time for retirement !

A new hero for the phony "independent" conservatives.

. . . who was in an "interracial relationship".

I`m going to go out on a limb and assume that the objector wasn`t a person of color. To all of those knee jerk [anti-diversity, anti-Voting Rights Act, anti- affirmative action, anti-Civil Rights Act] conservative that are so quick to spout how America is giving "the blacks" all these privaledges, I want you to think about what its like to have to be on guard for those that would try to get you in trouble over this. You have no idea what wickiness minorities have to be on guard for
