Christie chides Obama over VA 'disgrace'

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) – Chris Christie sharply criticized President Barack Obama’s management of the Veterans Affairs scandal on Friday, calling the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki “long overdue.”

“I wish that the President had been more aggressive since minute one to go in and fix it himself, because what’s happened there is a disgrace,” Christie said in a brief interview on Friday, hours after Shinseki met with the President and stepped down from his post.

Christie made the comments during a stop at a barbecue restaurant in Nashville, where he was campaigning with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

The New Jersey governor, who may seek to fill Obama’s shoes in 2016, said the President has been too passive in his response to revelations of misconduct at veterans health centers around the country.

“More importantly than the resignation, he should be in rolling up his sleeves and trying to put a stop to it,” Christie said. “That’s more than just saying you’re angry and getting resignations.”

With three stops in Tennessee on Friday, Christie was making his first political foray into the south as a potential White House candidate. Earlier Friday, he campaigned in Memphis at a re-election event for Sen. Lamar Alexander. Tonight, he’ll address the Tennessee GOP’s annual Statesmen’s Dinner in downtown Nashville.

Where was mr bigness during the shrub #43 administration and the horrible conditions at Walter Reed?
If these fools had been as upset then I would think that they really cared a hoot now!
It's all about grandstanding and this bully thinks is will help him in 2016. It won't. You can lose another two people and you will still NOT be president.

You have to expect that kind of failure from Obama. He is no manager. He simply throws money at things, and hopes some of it does some good. Often it does NOT!

Christie, you should refrain and get back to your state and roll your sleeves up to bring these property taxes down, it's not acceptable that there is a cap they need to go down, I bet you don't go around the country touting NJ is one of the most expensive states to live in.

    Don't worry Christie
As long as Obama spends a million to write a self serving report to clear himself, like you did, you will then be an Obama supporter right?
And it makes me laugh that you feel Obama needs to have granular control over every VA center in America when you have no idea what was going on with the most traveled bridge In the world that happens to be in your state

Governor Christie .. you don't know what our President is doing about the VA scandal. He may be rolling up his sleeves, but you're not going to know every step he makes, so sit back and relax, and stop jumping to conclusions about what our President is or is not doing. You have enough scandals to keep yourself busy, so you clean up your own messes, and stop wasting your time second guessing our President.

I had to check the year that Walter Reed Medical Center was exposed for the poor care being given to our soldiers returning from Iraq/Afganistan conflicts. Gee, it was 2007 on Bush's watch. At that time Congress and the executive branch should have started oversight of all military medical facilities. I can remember the horror stories my parents and uncle told of the treatment WWI, WWII and Korean Vets were receiving at VA facilities. Something needs to be done but the blame cannot just be put on this administration.

Christie needs to understand that the same thing can be said about him with the bridge closing. The difference is that the VA mess is long entrenched under all the Presidents not just Obama. He inherited this problem. Christie created the problem and he got away with being a crook. So Christie I say to yoy! Shut up!

Why the chide to Obama? This craps been going on for many years, before many of us were born. Ask teh people that served in Korea, or Viet Nam. If you want to look back far enough, it's been a disgrace since the war of 1812.

Chris Christie is currently under investigation for a number of fairly serious charges, some of which reach the threshold of criminal behavior. It would be nice if CNN would let their readers know who they are dealing with..

Republicans have no place mouthing off over the VA scandal. they are the ones bound and determined to bankrupt the government so it has no money to take care of anyone. and they're the ones who created all these wounded and disabled vets with never meeting a war they didn't love. their sudden concern is the height of hypocrisy. just like Benghazi, they cut funding for embassy security and then scream bloody murder when their cuts result in deaths. where was all the outrage over the many more embassy personnel who died on King George the Lesser's watch?

Fix it himself?! The President thinks himself too far up the food chain to even MEET with his cabinet secretaries!

This is what happens when you elect someone who hides their academic records, has legal profession records barred from public scrutiny. He feels he should not have to submit to the same scrutiny as other candidates who run for high office.

Pres. Obama did not have the professional or leadership experience to prepare him for the presidency. America- let's not elect anyone else based on emotions or touchy-feely stuff, ok? This is not working out well...

The VA has had numerous and REPEATED problems over the last FORTY years. Who's at fault? Every dammmed member of the government for those forty years, regardless of party.

Christie knew absolutely nothing about that bridge affair; therefore he is immensely qualified to level scandal judgments on the head of Obama. Nothing like a wholesome scandal- puts ya in the spotlight.

What a loon. This has been going on way before President Obama came into office. The GOP sends our men and women in harms way then refuse to properly fund the VA.

Christie under Federal investigation for corruption and likely to be indicted is now talking about Obama and the VA. Yes the VA problems have been done since World War 2 , Vietnam and two Wars in Afghanistan/Iraq. Christie has messed up New Jersey and people are suffering/dying from lack of health care and Jersey Vets unemployed/homeless in Jersey but Christie is not concerned as he just wants to collect donations.
