Christie chides Obama over VA 'disgrace'

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) – Chris Christie sharply criticized President Barack Obama’s management of the Veterans Affairs scandal on Friday, calling the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki “long overdue.”

“I wish that the President had been more aggressive since minute one to go in and fix it himself, because what’s happened there is a disgrace,” Christie said in a brief interview on Friday, hours after Shinseki met with the President and stepped down from his post.

Christie made the comments during a stop at a barbecue restaurant in Nashville, where he was campaigning with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

The New Jersey governor, who may seek to fill Obama’s shoes in 2016, said the President has been too passive in his response to revelations of misconduct at veterans health centers around the country.

“More importantly than the resignation, he should be in rolling up his sleeves and trying to put a stop to it,” Christie said. “That’s more than just saying you’re angry and getting resignations.”

With three stops in Tennessee on Friday, Christie was making his first political foray into the south as a potential White House candidate. Earlier Friday, he campaigned in Memphis at a re-election event for Sen. Lamar Alexander. Tonight, he’ll address the Tennessee GOP’s annual Statesmen’s Dinner in downtown Nashville.

This was going on for a LONG time, well before Obama Mr Christie. But of course you know that, don't you? I mean, everyone who reads or watches the news knows that. Are you that out of touch? Man!

A no non sense guy. On the wrong side of some of the policy debates in Washington, in my opinion, but is someone you can reason with. And it appears he did not have a major hand in the bridge scandal. A good thing because that would have seriously tarnished his reputation beyond repair.

oh ya? Christie, you didn't know why the bridge was blocked, and you know how to manage the VA? wow, that is really incredible.

Where's MSNBC calling for the President's resignation as they did for numerous days after the "bridge gate" scandal? Knowing of the scheduling issues going back to 2008 during his campaign and not doing anything to address the issue while many have died, seems like criminal neglect and deserving a full investigation by the DOJ.

What a joke! This so called governor of NJ is out of state promoting himself more than he is in NJ governing. When he left on Thursday for New Mexico there was a press release about all of the people on his staff who received a raise with the average one at 23%. If you want to see how this model GOP would be as president. NJ is dead last in new employment. He won't make the payments that should be made to the pension fund. The state has it's credit downgraded like 4 times now and will be again because of the no payments. He would absolutely be worst than W his idol.

Perdiction; he will run and get beat in the first round...ding ding ding

During the whole bridge scandal in New Jersey, Christie wasn't rolling up his sleeves to fix that mess.

Yes, and Christie has handled himself so well explaining Bridgegate.

Time for a little hypocrisy from the Jersey blowhard.

He should talk, right now the US attorney is looking at 4 different cases of CC's abuse to the people of NJ. He will probably be in jail by this time next year. Then he will realize he cannot run for president. Heck he won his first election by making a false claim about his opponent an out right lie. He won that election then he was sued about the false claim and lost the suit. He seems like the perfect GOP candidate for president. The Koch bros. love him he's one of them.

Tired of rightwing hypocrisy. When positions are reversed, all we hear is how "unpatriotic" we are for not supporting the president. Having been in perpetual crisis since 2008, half the country howls for mutiny. The wingnut commenters here have no thought process outside their own shallow parameters and self-interests. You are all fools, with no conscience. Your partisan drivel is helping to undermine this country from within.

Democrat or Republican makes little difference in a plutocracy. Do you people understand this yet? Do you understand that international private bankers own this country? Do you think this is just?

Since Christie has his own scandal to worry about, he should be more concerned about himself.

Hey governor. I don't remember if I ever heard you say befoipre all of this happened that Shinseki should resign or even mention the VA. Also it not his job to roll up his sleeves and fix it himself. That is not his job. His job is to put people in place who fix the problem. If you don't understand that then you don't belong in the big chair.

obama is always a day late and a dollar short when it comes to actually getting anything done. he honestly believes his job is just to give speeches, to cheer lead or demonize. he thinks he isn't responsible for anything no matter what the problem is, even after being in office for 5.5 years. i guess he didn't read the job description before applying.

Nope. Innocent people don't worry. Dems blabbering BS is not evidence and so far there is NOTHING that says he ordered it or knew about it beforehand.

“I wish that the President had been more aggressive since minute one to go in and fix it himself, because what’s happened there is a disgrace,”

Christie, acknowledging that the problem existed when Obama took office.
Christie, acknowledging that the previous Rebub Prez was incapable of fixing the Problem.
Christie, acknowledging that if you expect our problems to be fixed, you need a Dem.

I'm with Christie. (Choking in THAT phrase) And i wish Obama HAD gone in and fixed it himself. Maybe he will now.

sharon – " I had to check the year that Walter Reed Medical Center was exposed for the poor care being given to our soldiers returning from Iraq/Afganistan conflicts. Gee, it was 2007 on Bush's watch. "

You're right, Sharon, But the idea of " My President is no worse than your President " doesn't make a very good bumper sticker.

I vote for Dems because I expect them to be better. And when my President lets me down, I hold HIM accountable. No Excuses. Get It Done.
