Christie chides Obama over VA 'disgrace'

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) – Chris Christie sharply criticized President Barack Obama’s management of the Veterans Affairs scandal on Friday, calling the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki “long overdue.”

“I wish that the President had been more aggressive since minute one to go in and fix it himself, because what’s happened there is a disgrace,” Christie said in a brief interview on Friday, hours after Shinseki met with the President and stepped down from his post.

Christie made the comments during a stop at a barbecue restaurant in Nashville, where he was campaigning with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

The New Jersey governor, who may seek to fill Obama’s shoes in 2016, said the President has been too passive in his response to revelations of misconduct at veterans health centers around the country.

“More importantly than the resignation, he should be in rolling up his sleeves and trying to put a stop to it,” Christie said. “That’s more than just saying you’re angry and getting resignations.”

With three stops in Tennessee on Friday, Christie was making his first political foray into the south as a potential White House candidate. Earlier Friday, he campaigned in Memphis at a re-election event for Sen. Lamar Alexander. Tonight, he’ll address the Tennessee GOP’s annual Statesmen’s Dinner in downtown Nashville.

Is there absolutely anything in your post stating that both sides of the aisle are responsible? And that it has occurred on more then two presidents watch? And if the VA Oversight Committees have no responsibility other drinking coffee and having cookies why do they even exist? As usual your assumptions are laughable as well as dishonest. They gave you a bogey man yesterday, case closed.

But I have thrown BAZILLIONS of dollars at these veterans and the VA and I get THIS in return?!! How was I supposed to know the place was being run by a bunch of criminal Democrat union thugs more interested in getting their bonuses than treating our veterans? They voted for me and I gave them their money and they shafted me. Just goes to show, you can't trust Democrats. Liars and thieves, every one of them.

I love the left taking shots at Christie. You call him a bad person based on there being literally no proof he had anything to do with the bridge scandal that didn’t cost a single life (the one elderly woman was not going to make it anyways according to her family) and annoyed some drivers. However, he actually fired his staff within 24 hours when he found out about their involvement and came out blasting those tactics, backed up by action. All Obama ever does is claim he heard of these issues on the news (which the left buys for the 20 times it happened to Obama but not the one time for Christie), doesn’t fire anyone (and reluctantly accepts some resignations), then sweeps it under the rug while trying to ignore it completely contradicts another one of his campaign promises that has proven to be a complete and total fabrication (better VA care, keeping your insurance if you like it, transparency etc).

Christie would have fired shins ski in about 5 minutes. No nonsense government 2016

Are you talking about the same guy that did not have a clue what was going on in his own office (so he says) with his closest advisors? That Christie?

    SERIOUSLY Governor Christie??????
You want us to believe that you haver a staff that acted alone and without your knowledge, AND YOU WANT A PASS FOR IT, but you want to give the President a hard time about essentially the same thing?

  9. ThinkAgain - Don't like Congress? Get rid of the repub/tea bag majority.

Maybe if Bush had actually had strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan – and gave our troops something more than Rumsfeld's lame excuse about going to war "with the army you've got" – we wouldn't have so many vets in need of medical care.

I suggest everyone pay close attention to which party actually DOES something about this (as opposed to spends all its time, energy and money blaming the President) and vote accordingly.

Is he still trying to be a serious candidate for the 2016 POTUS race?

Amusing he would expect the President to be aware of the actions of mid-level managers in the V.A. – an agency with over 380,000 employees. Yet Christie still pretends not to know about the bridge closing and radical actions of his closest aide. Hmmm...

C C IS N0T that childish to play those bridge games .
Anyone with a brain can read him and should know better than that . Dems are so desperate and and their feeling are hurt and nanny is broke and they want to throw a fit and blame and n0t take responsibility for failed policy that they write and pass without reading and have been lied to by their own the average hard working dem is fed up and should be . Im n0t a dem and i am .

All of these comments by politicians about the VA are worthless. This scandal came about because people came up with a scheme to make the VA look better. No one bothered to say stop, this is so wrong. Now we hear that those involved were only doing what as they were told. Haven't we heard that before.

It is time for people to stop playing the blame game and to sop following plans that are clearly harmful. We should be critical of other government officials. Are we to believe that congressional offices did not hear from veterans about the wait time for appointments? Did any of these elected officials ever talk with the veterans to see if they were receiving the care they needed? It is easy to blame Gen.Shinseki and make him the target but there are many other people in our government who should be held accountable as well.

In fact, how many of us even thought to ask veterans if they were receiving the care they needed? How many of us even talk to homeless vets or offer them any help? There is plenty of blame to go around and we all can share some of the blame.

Christie is still trying to deflect media scrutiny away form himself. He still has a lot of explaining to do.

He has no room to talk. He was given federal funds to help the people of NJ and he still has thousands that are homeless and living in cheap motels. He has no room to talk.

Maybe Christie should give the money back so it can be used to build more VAs.

He can't even control his own states biz and he's knocking the President over the VA's handling. But he sure will give a pass to congress. After all they did so much more than the President did for our veterans. Didn't they?

Some leaders close highway lanes and inconvenience families. Others allow our brave soldiers to die needlessly. Still others pardon tax cheats and have affairs. Just another day in sleazy DC.

Well, at least by touring with the Gov who's company stole $Millions from trucking companies, Christie managed to stay far away from the GW bridge.
