‘It’s all garbage,’ Christie on criticism he isn’t popular outside N.J.
(CNN) – Known for his blunt, tough-talking disposition, Gov. Chris Christie said he’s confident his personality can take root in places beyond New Jersey–that is if his political aspirations expand nationwide someday.
“I hear people say all the time, ‘Oh you know, you wouldn’t play well in the South, or you wouldn’t play well in Iowa.’ It’s all garbage. People are people,” the Republican governor said Monday on Sports Radio 94WIP Philadelphia.
“Yeah there are some ... regional differences in our country. But in the end, people like people who are genuine, who are real,” he continued. “People who are real do well. And they’re happy, too.”

Christie, who’s thinking about running for president in 2016, is frank about politics and his favorite sports teams. One of them, the Dallas Cowboys, is a turnoff to many his home state where the New York Jets and Giants play. Christie said he’s paid a political price for his football devotion, but added that he could care less.
“If you waste too much time pretending to be somebody else, you’re wasting your life. This is who I am, and people either like it or they don’t,” he said. “And believe me, there are plenty of people, as you know, who can’t stand me. And that’s OK. That’s just the way it is, but I’d rather be that way.”
“I would rather lose than try to pretend to be somebody else,” he added.
An Iowa poll over the weekend indicated that Christie is one of the least-liked potential GOP presidential candidates in the Hawkeye State, which holds the first nominating contest in presidential election years. But voters still consider him the most likely to defeat the Democratic nominee, according to the Des Moines Register survey.
Christie was also asked on the radio program who he’d rather have dinner with: President Barack Obama, Bruce Springsteen, or Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
For the governor–a well-known Springsteen super fan–the answer way easy.
"Springsteen. We’ve met each other a number of times and we get along well,” he said, adding that he’s been to 132 concerts since he was a teenager. “I’ve had dinner with the President, I’ve never had dinner with Bruce.”
“By the way, the President came in third,” he added. “I’d go with Romo before the President...I’ve never had dinner with Romo, so you got to broaden your horizons here."

I have to agree with you Jeff. I used to live in NJ and have many family members and friends there. They say they did vote for him in the past but would never vote for him again. Now, that is only people I know. What about other Jersey folks ? I believe he is going nowhere. LOL
When your name comes up I immediately think Bridgegate. You're not even playing well in Jersey. In a hypothetical matchup, Hillary Clinton beats you in your home state. Get over yourself already.

Can you imagine the outrage by many in this country if President Obama acted anything like Crispy??? He wouldn't be referred to with so much respect and called tough talking. He'd be referred to as angry, arrogant and many other nasty adjectives. He definitely wouldn't have gotten a 2nd term, maybe not even a first because many would have been afraid of him. As for healthy snacks, he just had lap band surgery and is taking responsibility for his previously unhealthy diet and obesity...what's not good about that? stick to the issues, junior: it's his policies we despise.
Christie has no diplomacy at all. I do not like the words he always uses.
Almost two terms of this guy and NJ's unemployment is over 4 points higher than national average, and NJ STILL has the highest property taxes in the country, and car insurance rate – as for the latter, I guess he can't do much over the fact that most NJ'rs are horrific drivers.
