Was Rand Paul's red meat joke a bit too raw?

Washington (CNN) - More than any other Republican lawmaker, Sen. Rand Paul has aggressively gone after nontraditional GOP voters in the past year, trying to lure Democrats and independents into his party's column as he considers a presidential bid.

So it seemed odd last week when the libertarian-leaning senator from Kentucky made a partisan joke about the prisoner swap that secured U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's release.

It's about on par with the kind of crap we'd expect from the GOP/Teatrolls at this point. In the context of them sending out operatives to try to drum up the trial-by-public-opinion with respect to allegations of desertion...all as part of their plan to reduce his "value" so the "deal" would look worse and "not worth it"...it's not surprising at all that radicalized, extremist RWNJs, who already wax nationalistic, would attempt to draw an analogy equating anyone from the other party with someone they've already convicted in the court of public opinion of being a deserter and a traitor. Nationalism is the precursor to fascism, and resorting to abject, mindless patriotism and accusations of un-American-ness is a favorite RWNJ pastime.

Well, the Democrats have foisted the biggest joke of a president on the country ever so they should have a sense of humor by now. But of course they probably don't.. They just can't afford to part with any of that hate and anger to make room for it.

"@Sniffit- Where is your evidence that the Army is secertly in kahoots with the GOP to make Obama or anyone look bad? E.T. doesn`t count.

Nowhere did I say or even come anywhere near implying that. How in god's name did you manage to read that into anything I've ever written...particularly after I keep mentioning the fact that the Joint Chiefs specifically refused to play along with anything the GOP/Teatrolls and Faux were trying to do to use allegations of desertion or even defection to reduce Bergdahl's perceived "value" in the exchange and sitr up resentment against him and his family?

"Rand Paul has aggressively gone after nontraditional GOP voters..."
translation: I better try to convince people I am "libertarian-leaning". Maybe people won't look back at all I have said and done and realized I am hard core conservative bigot in practice.

Right on Donna! Al Gore and the Dems should have been more forceful and DEMANDED that the 2000 Florida recount continue until ALL of the ballots were counted, despite the red (aka Brooks Brothers) riot that broke out at the Supervisor of Elections' office. Had they done so they could have saved us that 8-year long "joke"! As for "hate and anger", you might want to take a quick look in a mirror, babe!

Keep that mouth open for business. The more you speak your mind (or lack thereof), the better chance you have of being unseated along with the rest of your party.

Well I do think he is so funny, he should be the presidential candidate. Liberals everywhere would jump for joy to see an overt, no filter bigoted conservative out there. It would be the biggest shock to voters to really listen to him, then the biggest loss in history. Voters need to see the real face of backwards conservatism.

The moral of this story is staring you straight in the face. Sen. Paul is not to be taken seriously. These are not the sort of remarks we would expect to hear from a potential candidate for POTUS. Sen. Paul has neither the eloquence, nor the demeanor of a statesman. He sounds like someone in a bar with a beer in his hand.

Poorly done. Taseless joke given without careful thought or consideration. Pandering to an unruly and rabid mob is not very presidential.
