Bush 41 jumps on his 90th birthday

Programming note: CNN will air "41ON41," a film about President George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, based on interviews with 41 people who know him best, Sunday at 9 and 11 p.m. ET

(CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush Thursday celebrated his 90th birthday by skydiving near his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

After what appeared to be a hard landing, Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told CNN that after the morning jump, the former president "is doing great."

Bush jumped in tandem with Mike Elliott, the same man he has jumped with several times before. Bush had previously parachuted seven times – once when he was shot down as a Navy pilot during World War II and the other six voluntary, including jumps to celebrate his 75th, 80th and 85th birthdays.

"He loves the adrenaline. He loves the jolt. He loves the thrill," McGrath added.

"It's a wonderful day in Maine - in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump," the former president tweeted Thursday morning, in announcing he was going to jump.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush was "fully on board," McGrath said.

At 90, Bush 41 enjoys 'life to the fullest'

Despite suffering from a form of Parkinson's disease that restricts him to a wheelchair, Bush was committed to jump. He had pledged five years ago to do a jump on his 90th birthday.

His ego still craves the limelight.....why not just quietly do it for the sake of doing it.
-– maybe you should tell President Clinton not to hog the camera every chance he gets.
Hate, is in full swing here today, by the loving democrats and liberals.

Agree with Carl..Timba..Wake Up! I don't think it's Great what 41 is doing at all! There are thousands of vets right now who can't even move from a wheelchair or support their families because of this clown and the wars!!

I always thought well of Bush 41 and his Presidency – he did just about everything right, & was vilified for it by extremists who weren't fit to tie his shoes. Somewhat like Obama, his communication was often a bit off target, and that hurt his public perception. Happy 90th, Mr President!

Wow, just look at the nasty comments from the negative legions in America. Why so much hate liberals? He raised taxes and tried to tax the wealthy. Love the liberals. Do what they want you to do and you are still mad.

Unbelievable! The old man can hardly walk, how can he jump? Or just stretching the body in the air?

I hope he doesn't confuse his son's (GWB) Hello Kitty backpack with his parachute.

  24. Wake Up People! Many Rivers to cross.....

Come on people, he's 90 years old and wants to skydive. That in itself is miraculous. Red or blue, that's amazing! I hope I'm that active at 90. Heck I just want to make it to 90.

I'm always amazed at the partisan bickering over a feel good story. You know like all the nastiness directed at President Obama because he went and got a hamburger.

    Some people are pathetic.
