(CNN) - Press secretary Jay Carney gave his last White House press briefing on Wednesday, telling reporters "it's always been a pleasure."
"...no matter how hard it can get it here; how hot it can sometimes be, and contentious it sometimes is," he said.

Carney, who previously spent 21 years in journalism, including a stint as Washington bureau chief for Time magazine, said while he loved his time as a journalist, it can be at times "an autonomous exercise."
"It's your story, it's your byline. What was so different about this experience for me is that it was all about a team effort and all about a goal that had nothing to do with any individual, not even the president. And that's been extraordinarily gratifying to be a part of," he said.
In announcing his departure, President Barack Obama said last month he considers Carney "one of my closest friends."
"He's got good judgment. He has good temperament and he's got a good heart, and I will miss him a lot," Obama said.
Before taking over the role as lead White House spokesman, Carney was a the director of communications for Vice President Joe Biden.
Carney was Obama's second press secretary, following Robert Gibbs. Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest will take Carney's place at the briefing podium.
Carney has not yet said what the future holds but has said he and wife Claire Shipman, a senior correspondent for ABC News, have had discussions about what's next for him but he hasn't made any firm decisions.
CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.
Selling anything that requires and inordinate amount of lying and absolutely no conscience should be a good call for his next career move.
I wonder how much money Jay Carney got for his soul?
Good riddance! Was getting tired him attacking reporters that were trying to get the truth.
Someone can only be a yes man to 0bama without looking ? Well you know ?
I will miss ole Baghdad Bob Carney. Its takes skill to lie that much even to the docile press.
Talk about good timing !!!!!
I wish I had the time to sit around and take pot shots at anything that shows up on Twitter related to the president like you guys. It's almost like you're getting paid to do it.
Good luck to you Jay and thanks for your service.
All the best to him and his family .
It is a tough job especially with the "evolving" that this President has attempted. Its tough to do your job when your boss needs you to"tap dance on soft ice cream" a majority of the time . "evolving": Back tracking on previous statements, beliefs, or actions. Good luck Mr. C
Yes, the previous adminstration had wonderful, long lasting, polite, honest, and professional group of press secretaries.
Well, one anyway... the one who had a soul and ended up writing a tell all book revealing the lies and deception of the war criminals.
He was immediatley set up on by the righties and faux news- disparaged, attacked, and slandered.
But ya'll continue to live your life in the bubble, I know you feel comforatble and safe in there.
Oh the hatred flows deep when he speaks the truth they don't want to accept, grow up losers.
