Louisiana congressman: Remove Reid as majority leader to pass Keystone in Senate

(CNN) - Rep. Bill Cassidy has one solution for moving legislation on the Keystone XL Pipeline through the Senate: Remove its top obstructionist.

“We must stop Harry Reid and the senators who support him from blocking the Keystone XL pipeline – blocking the jobs, the opportunity that it creates,” Cassidy said in a weekly GOP address. “It’s time to retire Harry Reid as the leader of the Senate.”

The House voted 238-173 on Tuesday in favor of a bill that would push the pipeline forward by eliminating a requirement in which oil and gas pipelines that cross U.S. borders get a permit from the White House. The bill passed with 17 Democrats voting in favor of the measure, despite a veto threat from the White House.

A similar bill in the Senate was blocked the same day by Senate Democrats, whom Cassidy says don’t care about the economic well-being of American families.

“President Obama and his allies like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are more interested in rolling out the red tape than the red carpet for these jobs,” Cassidy said.

“Sadly, Democrats in Washington stand with President Obama rather than standing with hard-working families in Louisiana and elsewhere. They would rather your family struggle than offend their political base.”

Reid has said that he would consider bringing a vote on the matter to the Senate floor so long as Republicans would allow a vote on a bipartisan energy efficiency bill.

In his address, Cassidy cites the State Department in saying that the pipeline would cause negligible harm to the environment and even saves lives, as there are fewer accidents shipping oil by pipeline as opposed to rail or truck.

He also argues that jobs created by the construction of the pipeline would provide Americans with the opportunity to pursue their dreams

“You have your own dreams. There are common sense solutions to provide you opportunity,” Cassidy said. “One is the Keystone XL Pipeline.”

It will be a great day for this country when Harry Reid is removed from his position as Majority Leader of the Senate. Pelosi was thrown out in 2010 and now it is Reid's turn in 2014. The country has seen and heard enough of this senile Obama droid obstructionist.

I like Cassidy's spin on this pipeline issue. He says that Senate Democrats don't care about the economic well being of American families. This, in spite of the fact that none of the oil will be used in America. And then there's the stretch of the pipeline "saving lives because it's safer than transporting oil by rail or truck." That's like saying that George Bush saved lives because he didn't start a third war with Russia. That's called political ;logic.

Maybe people are starting to understand who the real obstructionist are in Washington DC. People know it is Obama and his gang of communist hiding behind the words democratic party, using Holder to keep them above our laws and Reid to protect Obama from impeachment proceedings. This is all made possible by the useless media who protect this corruption.

If the obsructionists from BOTH parties were removed, they might just get something accomplished, but I doubt it.

It is too bad that Rep. Cassidy is like all the other republicans, always putting a spin on things and not caring about the truth. First, what jobs is that pipeline going to create? It will only end up with 35 permanent jobs, and with millions out of work, not really something to celebrate. Another portion of the Keystone pipeline already in use, owned and built by the same Canadian company, has faulty welds. Negligible harm to the environment? The Keystone XL pipeline would run over the top of the Ogallah Aquafer, which is one of the largest in the US. Most of the midwest depend on that aquafer, and since there hasn't been a oil pipeline that has not leaked, and there are real questions about this Canadian company's construction methods, we risk serious pollution issues if this pipeline is built. If that aquafer becomes polluted because of an oil leak or spill, there is no way to clean it up. The aquafer would become useless and farmers throughout the midwest would be unable to water their crops and livestock. But, Harry Reid is giving you an opportunity to have a vote on this issue, and if you and the other republicans refuse his offer, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

The only members of the senate or congress that need to be removed and voted out of office are the ones who think
giving "AMNESTY" to 20 million illegals is the correct thing to do, These people need to go! and fast!
My vote, and my friends and family's is for Legal Immigration only, NO AMNESTY!

    Period END OF DEBATE!

Move on now, and lets get America back on it's feet!

If the republicans do somehow get this approved and our gas prices to not go down and our unemployment does not go down and this pipeline ruptures and wipes out peoples lands and major water supplies all of which is likely to happen do we get to take all the republicans out and hang them for treason?

Nonsense!! The oil carried by the pipeline is the dirtiest there is. The money will be made by the Canadian company that owns it all . Oil refinieries and oil shipping companies will also make money but , if you really think the average American is going to realize their dreams, I think you're naive. Why would they need hundreds of workers once the pipeline is finished? Yeah, there will be jobs but they'll only be temporary for the average person. They'll keep on the people they want to maintain the pipeline. Workers in refineries and shipping will have jobs, but how many new refineries will be built or old ones expanded and shipping, wow, there's a lot of jobs there. The Republicans are short-sighted. They only think about today instead of employing people in solar, wind and other energy sources. People could be employed right now if companies would invest in research and production in these areas and actually begin using alternatives like solar and wind. It's out there. Let's start using our ingenuity and workforce to move toward a better tomorrow. Coal and oil is not here forever. What are they going to do? Deny, deny, deny right up until the moment they go " Ooop! We should have started long ago. We were wrong". Because, eventually, they will be considered wrong, mistaken, short-sighted and just plain greedy. Cater to the 1%, the oil and coal industry but make it look like you really care about the little guy. At the expense of erring on the side of caution and the children of tomorrow.

Yes remove this socialist and Nancy Polosi too, they are helping Obama to transform America into their radical 1960's utopian dream. Marx would be proud of them but the forefathers would be rolling over in their graves.

If we lose Iraqi oil and don't get the pipeline, I guess Obama wins and destroys the American economy. That's what they say was the dream of his father, get even with Europeans and America for what they did to Africa.

The most obstructionist Republicans have nothing to do but to continue to undermine the president, spread lies and racism. Minus the Keystone XL, what else can the radical extremist Republicans do in House and Senate?...they are there wasting taxpayers monies, buying cocaine, traveling to Argentina to meet their mistresses etc. The Democratic led senate has passed countless and jobs and economic bills but the politically drunk and obstructionist Republican led house could not bring the bills to a vote. From the beginning, these haters of all minorities in the US wanted the president to fail, they have rooted and done everything possible to see America crumble under president Obama's stewardship so that might disqualify other minorities from seek the presidency and the American people will use president as example to disagree with future minority presidential candidates. They don't care if they're undermining the sustainable development of their country, they don't if they're blocking job and economic bills, they don't care if they aren't in touch with middle class and the poor, they don't care if their relentless obstructionist will guarantee communist China and Russia to overtake the US, they don't care if they're weakening or destroying democracy, they just don't care. All these extremist radicals care for is to continue to cut taxes for millionaires/billionaires at the detriment of the American people, at the detriment of the federal government. Last year, radical extremist Republicans shutdown federal government and now obstructionist gang leader Michelle Buchmann said that defunding the federal government is the best.

More stupid status-quo politics from a RepuppetCON (Bill Cassidy). If we invested in mass cracking of ammonia to produce hydrogen fuel to the American public INSTEAD of wasting our tax dollars on the short-sighted Keystone XL, we would eliminate the economic pressure to increase the flow of fracked oil. Our need to secure the flow of Middle East oil would be eliminated, and we would be relieved of the need to be involved in their internal disputes. Another benefit would be the exponential reduction of CO and CO2 exhaust gases into the atmosphere, and the elimination of the need to smog our vehicles in the interests of clean air. We need to commit immediately to the changeover to hydrogen fuel, NOT continue the status quo for Big Oil.
