Louisiana congressman: Remove Reid as majority leader to pass Keystone in Senate

(CNN) - Rep. Bill Cassidy has one solution for moving legislation on the Keystone XL Pipeline through the Senate: Remove its top obstructionist.

“We must stop Harry Reid and the senators who support him from blocking the Keystone XL pipeline – blocking the jobs, the opportunity that it creates,” Cassidy said in a weekly GOP address. “It’s time to retire Harry Reid as the leader of the Senate.”

The House voted 238-173 on Tuesday in favor of a bill that would push the pipeline forward by eliminating a requirement in which oil and gas pipelines that cross U.S. borders get a permit from the White House. The bill passed with 17 Democrats voting in favor of the measure, despite a veto threat from the White House.

A similar bill in the Senate was blocked the same day by Senate Democrats, whom Cassidy says don’t care about the economic well-being of American families.

“President Obama and his allies like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are more interested in rolling out the red tape than the red carpet for these jobs,” Cassidy said.

“Sadly, Democrats in Washington stand with President Obama rather than standing with hard-working families in Louisiana and elsewhere. They would rather your family struggle than offend their political base.”

Reid has said that he would consider bringing a vote on the matter to the Senate floor so long as Republicans would allow a vote on a bipartisan energy efficiency bill.

In his address, Cassidy cites the State Department in saying that the pipeline would cause negligible harm to the environment and even saves lives, as there are fewer accidents shipping oil by pipeline as opposed to rail or truck.

He also argues that jobs created by the construction of the pipeline would provide Americans with the opportunity to pursue their dreams

“You have your own dreams. There are common sense solutions to provide you opportunity,” Cassidy said. “One is the Keystone XL Pipeline.”

    NO to the keystone pipeline!
It's a Horizon waiting to happen on land, US land that is for the benefit of Canada (who gave us rafaelito).
Honestly, the oil is NOT going to the US. It's going to be sold to other countries. Our country will look from outer space like wall of China for nothing good for US.

Wait, is this the pipeline that the republicans wouldn't sign off on as carrying oil to be used here in the US? This is just another scam on the American public for the sake of profits to oil companies. This oil will be shipped overseas where it will be used by others, not us. Why should we bear the responsibility, and the liability, for carrying massive amounts of oil through our nation only to be sold to others? What benefit is it to all of us? Oh, sure, some jobs but when compared to the possible disaster of a massive oil spill over a major aquifer? The few jobs aren't worth diddly. It is all about the wealthy getting more so. When will we all wake up?

In a perfect world you can only hope. Hope that there actually is a place. A special place. A special place in Hell for the Harry Ried type genetically defective communist control freaks.

Time to take this maggot out.

CNN has posted an article that shows who the real "obstructionist" are. Reid is doing this for the rich old white guy from CA campaign contributor.
And before you open your liberal pie hole, look at the 2012-2013 Congress record on bills introduce/sent to committee/pass on floor/sent to the other chamber and then all those sitting on Reid's desk and why.

why does America want the pipe line? we have so much oil the president is going against 5 decades of both party's working together to make sure we kept our oil for last. clauss-mussen report of 1973 states we use foreign oil first and keep ours for last. this president seems so anti-American at times.

What it is time to do is throw Bill Cassidy and the rest of these GOTPer's out of office for trying to sell us another bill of goods. Keystone will create a few hundred jobs at best, and could endanger our water even more then we have already allowed the oil companies to do. Who will this benefit? Canada and the lying oil companies. Tell Canada if they want it so bad build their own refinery to take care of this air, and water polluting sludge.

Harry Reid is a communist and senile. He has become a millionaire on the backs of the people. He is corrupt as they come and should have been put in jail for his corruption a long time ago.

Reid no longer cares about the Country are it's Citizens. Liberals and Dems love him, even though his actions hurt them on a daily basis.

This message is for all of those Congress people who only want to line their pockets and make their rich oil buddies more money. We don't need you and I hope you get the boot at election time! Anyone who would a vote for a pipeline that could pollute the water system in the middle of the U.S. for money is nothing more than a greedy bastard and shouldn't be in the position of making such a drastic decision. If that pipeline was run through their backyard and risked their drinking water they would be singing a different tune. The facts about the pipeline are out there, it is not oil, but tar sand that must have 29% other chemicals added to it to flow through the pipe. This tar sand will act like sandpaper on the inside of that pipe and sooner or later it will have a catastrophic leak and possible destroy the Ogallala aquifer which is the largest underground aquifer in the whole country. The talk about so many jobs being made is ridiculous propaganda, the estimates of between 2,000 to 4,000 workers to lay the pipe would only have jobs until the pipe was laid. There could be as many as 250 full time jobs to monitor the pipe after it is bringing that toxic waste through the heart of our country to make a few rich oil people richer. I wish they could pipe that tar sand through their backyard, they don't deserve any better than that!

I would add McConell; Boehner; and Pelosi as well. Not for the pipeline which will be built once the Neb. lawsuits are settled but to get Congress back to work.

Rep. Cassidy ... we don't want the XL pipeline, or any other pipeline! Can't you understand that? There are no jobs to speak of, for all the disadvantages the pipeline would entail. The only people who would benefit is the oil company, as usual, and Canada. But, why does Canada care if our land is disrupted beyond repair, if our water is polluted for years, if we don't want the smell, the toxic fumes to cause our children to become sick. The oil company, and Canada only see the money. We don't want, and don't need that awful pipeline running through our land, only to take the oil to some other countries, and we are the ones left to clean up the eruptive spills that will definitely happen!

And you leave our Majority leader, Harry Reid, alone. He's the only one that's saving us a lot of misery .. saving us from the likes of you!

The short term construction jobs is like a bandaid on a broken leg.yes there will be a few thousand jobs for a few months till construction then the number of jobs drop below 100 permanent jobs so this country gets to run the risk of an oil spill that could cause billions of dollars in damage for what the benifit of who certainly not the people of this country.
The best thing I can say about Cassidy is that if you follow the money you will see he is just another paid shill for the oil and gas industry.

Other countries uses riots and demonstrations to show civil unrest , we in the USA use the power of the voting booth. To make changes badly need ( Keystone pipe line , etc) we need to change the leadership in the Senate and have enough voting power to over ride a veto.

The only jobs that might be created will be for some temporary jobs for local truckers and laborers. All of the full time jobs, like pipe welders, inspectors, technicians, etc. will be taken by people already employed by the oil companies. All the processed oil is going to be sold to China and North Korea because iit's too dirty to be used in the US.

Just look at Dingy Harry's picture. It speaks volumes about him. He is nothing more than a stubborn, crafty old coot that is so into himself and his power. He is like a kid playing with matches and knows not what distruction is about to take place because of his actions. Nor does he care.

I am not for the pipeline going through. I am looking at it the long run. After the pipeline get built, we will be in the same boat. Most of the jobs will be eliminated. You think they will keep all of these people on payroll, I doubt it. If there is nothing for them to do, they will give them their walking papers. They will keep the ones who will have the degree in engineering and others, but not the workers who put their soul into the pipeline.

The pipeline is dangerous putting through the aquafia system. Animals, people, plant life, insects who depend on that water. If they could find another way though the country to build the pipeline through without damaging the environment if there is an accident, I am all for it,

American oil will go to China and we will have $5 per gallon gas prices. We keep buying oil from muslims who will be jerking us around with one crisis after another. Only those who have ill will towards the USA would want that. Reid, Obama – democrats.

    What does it take,
under the current laws such as they are, a legal system these traitors and robbers use for a substitute for CHARMIN,
To really and truly get RID. Of HAIRY REED ? This guy NEVER MET a bagman for the Mob or anyone else , that he didn't like and greet warmly, as long as the cash was heavy enough ? Maybe he is too evil for even Satan to take him, but he has a voice that sounds worse, wimpier, than the twelve year old gerbil in my basement pet room, so how in thunder can we ever get rid of this evil old sack of guano ? His ethics are incredibly bad, he cares nothing for anyone but himself and his bank account, but he's too thick, too grateful, and too Godless, to grasp how short his time is, or what is the punishment soon to fall on him, for being what he is... I will send him some stock shares in my asbestos underwear company. They are worth the paper it's oriented on. And the best parts of the messages don't even show until exposed to a little bit of. Heat, as in being burned, but that's all part of the joke and the insult..
