Obama to request billions to deal with border crisis

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Monday for emergency funds, possibly more than $2 billion, as the United States grapples with a surge of undocumented children and adults crossing the border from Mexico.

A White House official told CNN the money will go to securing appropriate space for the detention of children but also stemming the tide of immigrants. The government hopes to increase its ability to investigate and dismantle smuggling organizations as well as quickly return children and adults to their home countries if they do not qualify for asylum.

Little-known law allows abused immigrant children to stay in the U.S.

The federal government has struggled to process and accommodate the influx of illegal human traffic but specifically the spike in children. They don’t have enough beds, food or sanitary facilities.

U.S. authorities estimate that between 60,000 to 80,000 children without parents will cross the border this year in what the White House is calling an “immediate humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier in June, the White House announced a plan to spend millions in a government-wide response by sending aide to governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to help with crime and violence prevention.

In mid-June, Vice President Joe Biden also spoke with leaders in the three countries as well as Mexico about working together to promote security.

Biden’s objective was to emphasize that adults arriving with their children in the United States don’t meet the requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which defers deportation for children brought to the United States before June 15, 2012.

Obama also spoke with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto about the issue and has warned families who see the dangerous trip as the best option for their children.

“Do not send your children to the borders. If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it,” Obama said to ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

The White House will also ask Congress to ensure that the administration has the authority it deems necessary to effectively use these funds. That includes expanded authority for Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in processing the return and removal of unaccompanied minor children and increased penalties for individuals who smuggle minors across the border.

CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Quoting: "Earlier in June, the White House announced a plan to spend millions in a government-wide response by sending aide to governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to help with crime and violence prevention."

The entire $2 billion will be paid to the prison-military-industrial complex. It is used to buy weapons and vehicles from American suppliers. It only worsens "the problem" if there actually is one... and these things are usually very exaggerated 'news' stories.

Yea, he is going to want 2 billion and Congress is going to lay out guidelines to which he won't agree or say he is not going to negotiate this....then he will say Republicans are being obstructionists and blame this for this crisis.

If they would spend this money they are wasting on sending the illegals back on keeping them out it would be better spent!

Meanwhile he will demand tax payers pay more in taxes and buy these kids health insurance and food among anything else, maybe even housing, while our own kids struggle under student loan debt and lack of jobs.

How is this newest request going to fit into the budget? The President is already late with the budget cuts that are suppose to go along with the tax hike on the rich and the ACA taxes as part of the President's balanced approach to deficit reduction. The President's economic "plan" calls for the federal government to post annual surpluses to be used to start paying down the debt starting in 2015. The President has yet to provide the financial details as to how his "plan" is even possible. With a debt of more than 17 trillion dollars, I estimate that the money the federal government is borrowing now will end up costing the tax payers more than 10 times the money borrowed to repay over the next 170 years. As the debt continues to rise the multiplier goes up exponentially. How is this new spending going to help make the President's economic "plan" a reality?

Well, we all know where this will go. If it were a Republican president in office, Republicans would overwhelmingly support it. But because it's Obama, the request will be DOA. Hypocrites!!

Sure, why not borrow a couple of billion more dollars from China? A drop in the bucket, no? Of course, all those drops are adding up to an incomprehensible sum owed.

You could build a heck of a fence for 2 billion. All it's going to take is one terrorist crossing and blowing some of us up. THEN after some of us die, they will finally patrol our borders. Look at the shoe bomb on the airplane thing, we all take our shoes off at the airport because of one moron. If the folks that want the border sealed up were smart they would pay someone to walk/swim across it with a pound of C4 and then blow up the closest industrial plant, unoccupied but active would work. Then they would be all over sealing that border up.

Obama, it's not "a crisis." It's an invasion. Tell Pelosi to quit calling them refugees and quit saying it's a "humanitarian" issue. These aren't refugees, they are foreign lawbreakers. Deal with it appropriately. And bill their home countries to get OUR money back!!!!

Get all the kids on bus and send them all back to Mexico. That is where they originated from. We don't need them in this country. And put Obama on the bus with them.

But Sarah, from the pictures I've seen, they're not blondes and redheads. They're illegal; plain and simple, and the fact that Mexico has granted them 'passage' through their country, because they have one of the most restrictive immigrant policies of any nation-state, and please pay attention to the 'state' part, really begs the question of how much they're (Mexico) is putting up to house and feed them? As part of this 'state', I'm appalled that $2 billion of my tax dollars is going to be spent on this.
