Obama to request billions to deal with border crisis

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Monday for emergency funds, possibly more than $2 billion, as the United States grapples with a surge of undocumented children and adults crossing the border from Mexico.

A White House official told CNN the money will go to securing appropriate space for the detention of children but also stemming the tide of immigrants. The government hopes to increase its ability to investigate and dismantle smuggling organizations as well as quickly return children and adults to their home countries if they do not qualify for asylum.

Little-known law allows abused immigrant children to stay in the U.S.

The federal government has struggled to process and accommodate the influx of illegal human traffic but specifically the spike in children. They don’t have enough beds, food or sanitary facilities.

U.S. authorities estimate that between 60,000 to 80,000 children without parents will cross the border this year in what the White House is calling an “immediate humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier in June, the White House announced a plan to spend millions in a government-wide response by sending aide to governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to help with crime and violence prevention.

In mid-June, Vice President Joe Biden also spoke with leaders in the three countries as well as Mexico about working together to promote security.

Biden’s objective was to emphasize that adults arriving with their children in the United States don’t meet the requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which defers deportation for children brought to the United States before June 15, 2012.

Obama also spoke with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto about the issue and has warned families who see the dangerous trip as the best option for their children.

“Do not send your children to the borders. If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it,” Obama said to ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

The White House will also ask Congress to ensure that the administration has the authority it deems necessary to effectively use these funds. That includes expanded authority for Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in processing the return and removal of unaccompanied minor children and increased penalties for individuals who smuggle minors across the border.

CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Take it from the salaries of the President and all his cronies, since they have created the crisis and neglected to not only protect the US but harm innocent children.

This is great! I am going to enter the property of one of the billionaires and set up shop there. I will demand food and shelter and higher education. I AM SURE that he won't call the cops on me and won't make them put me in jail. Instead, he will give me a good life and pay for all my bills.
All I have to do is to choose one. Should it be Donald Trump? Bill Gates? Or one of the other fat cats?

    Life is good! 🙂

Send them back home. It is not fair for others to surge across the border and out number Americans that have been since the 1500's. Power is in the population numbers, and the illegals have out numbered the legal. This surge must be reversed.

Ironic? Malcom X, said it better, and more trenchantly, "...the chickens come home to roost." Typically, all over the world, people like to stay around where they were born. 5n 1954, the United Fruit Co. approached the Eisenhower administration, and told them they did not like the Jacobo Arbenz government. which the people of Guatemala had elected. (too 'communistic) The CIA engineered a coup, which destabilized the country. The US, using similar excuses to defeat political parties or movements, at the behest of US corporations in other nearby countries. While those operations made it easier for corporations to appropriate land for development, it put people off he land where they were making a living. Usually agricultural products. Even better, and faster, for the corporations, was NAFTA. Now, we're all upset about what they called "blowback" during the US war in Vietnam. Another similarity is the increase of military personnel looking for drugs. The only difference between this and the Mid east being that the fleeing populations are going to neighboring nations, rather than the US. Get it?

Let's hope if the people in Congress want to be re-elected, they will vote down the U.S. spending $2Billion to provide support for illegal aliens. Also, Mexico doesn't need to be paid off by this money either. (means we pay Mexico not to send these people our way) People need to be sponsored to get into this county so they have jobs and can support themselves. I do not support "Gimmie Programs" because nobody supported one for me. This country runs on a work ethic, you work really hard, get an education and you get a good job. Since when does the U.S. have to pay for their right to be in this county, and then give them........GIVE THEM a free education. Solution: The Mexican government needs to appropriate the money to house their people who will be sent back across the border to their home country.

How about we simplify this: Mine the borders and put in machine gun emplacements. You cross, you are killed period. Yes, harsh, however, I don't want any of my tax payer dollar going to ILLEGALS. Stop them before they get here.

Remember the movie, "Aliens?" In the extended edition, they show an automated machine gun working. They need them on the boarder, hundreds and hundreds of them.

The best part is there is documented proof from officials and video that the border gates are just being left open, and buses are being directed to drop off illegals by the thousands in the midwest. SOUNDS FISHY!!!

Take that 2 billion and make sure every homeless, hungry vet has a nice place to stay and 3 squares. For those breaching our borders bring out the GP Large tents and the concertina wire. This has got to stop now. No more money on illegals and start taking care of our own people first. Many kids in the USA go hungry and are homeless. We care for our own first.

Oh, they can't be sent back because of some stupid law that Bush and Obama passed. Ahh a reason for Congress to meet and VOTE DOWN the law that was obviously a wrong decision. Middle class America is saying NO to spending $2 Billion!!!

It's a little late now, Mr. President. The US borders should have been closed year ago, – yes. even under the GW Bush presidency. Unfortunately, nobody in DC seemed to, or seems to now, consider this an "issue". I've got news for every single elected official sitting in their comfy chairs in DC. This influx of alien invasion from foreign countries has to stop. We, the taxpayers can no longer afford to pay for their health care, their housing, their food, their everything when we cannot afford to purchase our meats and vegetables from our local grocery store.

No. The money of this country is squandered and there are no results to show for the spending.

If Obama were white he would be so unpopular by now it wouldn't be funny. But hey, we elected him...twice. And I, as a Democrat, think that we have made a colossal mistake. He and his ilk have to go sooner rather than later to stop this poor excuse for governing that we have today. Big education and NO common sense. Or even worse.

Here's my beef with this, after reading the 'let's just allow anyone to come to the US' story in the NY Times...let's say you're an American wanting to move to Canada. Americans stand basically NO chance, as you must have millions of dollars upfront, or a post-doctorate in a field that no Canadian citizen is qualified to fill that position, etc.

Canadian government has made it so impossible that Americans would have an easier time moving to New Zealand than Canada. Yet anyone from Africa or the Middle East shows up in Canada and are allowed not only citizenship but welfare, food, housing, etc – unbelievable! If the US is going to allow people from Mexico and Central America, I want to first see some good faith from Canada: Americans with no criminal record, with some degree of education and work experience, must be allowed to live in Canada permanently if they wish.

If we are moving towards a 'United North America' with free movement between Canada, Mexico and the US – I'd feel a lot less anxiety knowing that the three governments are going to work together, and I,too, have a choice about where I want to spend my future. It shouldn't just be the Central Americans and Mexicans who get to go somewhere new and follow their dreams while Americans are, for the most part, not allowed to live anywhere else.

If I were President, I would just station troops at the border with Mexico and just order them to shoot at will whenever they see Mexicans trying to cross the border. Unfortunately, it seems the vast majority of Hispanics have become a burden on USA society through their gang-banging and other criminal activities.

NO MORE $ for this issue. Either stop the illegal traffic into our country or do nothing but stop investing in the illegals future here. Our own children cannot get a decent education or jobs if they were fortunate to be able to afford college. Since when are we responsible for irresponsible parents allowing their children to be muled into our country. Send them back to their parents, let Honduras and the rest of them take responsibility for their own people. I agree, we crap all over our veterans and illegals get top consideration. The U.S. is quickly losing its integrity and the need to be focused on issues here at home. Stop the insanity!

This administration has lost it's mind. Obama allowing kids to stay has created a huge influx of children crossing the border. He wants funds for these future liberal voters, yet will not give border patrol the funds or manpower it needs to keep our borders secure. Time to impeach this clown and move forward.
