Obama to request billions to deal with border crisis

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Monday for emergency funds, possibly more than $2 billion, as the United States grapples with a surge of undocumented children and adults crossing the border from Mexico.

A White House official told CNN the money will go to securing appropriate space for the detention of children but also stemming the tide of immigrants. The government hopes to increase its ability to investigate and dismantle smuggling organizations as well as quickly return children and adults to their home countries if they do not qualify for asylum.

Little-known law allows abused immigrant children to stay in the U.S.

The federal government has struggled to process and accommodate the influx of illegal human traffic but specifically the spike in children. They don’t have enough beds, food or sanitary facilities.

U.S. authorities estimate that between 60,000 to 80,000 children without parents will cross the border this year in what the White House is calling an “immediate humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier in June, the White House announced a plan to spend millions in a government-wide response by sending aide to governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to help with crime and violence prevention.

In mid-June, Vice President Joe Biden also spoke with leaders in the three countries as well as Mexico about working together to promote security.

Biden’s objective was to emphasize that adults arriving with their children in the United States don’t meet the requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which defers deportation for children brought to the United States before June 15, 2012.

Obama also spoke with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto about the issue and has warned families who see the dangerous trip as the best option for their children.

“Do not send your children to the borders. If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it,” Obama said to ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

The White House will also ask Congress to ensure that the administration has the authority it deems necessary to effectively use these funds. That includes expanded authority for Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in processing the return and removal of unaccompanied minor children and increased penalties for individuals who smuggle minors across the border.

CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Somethings wrong, Our news media is bias to the point where it actually seems to want the country to get worse, Its like our country is being undermined and bled by a 1000 tiny cuts. We wont survive, Democracy is a good thing but we need some thing that binds us as a nation. We arent even allowed to say something is American, and not be called a bigot. At some point we are going have to stand up and own who we are as a nation. Whatever we decide anybody who decides to come here should assimilate, and not expect us to change for them.

This would not be happening if the border was secured. The Senate wants all or nothing in their bill while Republicans came back with securing the border first. Senate won't pass. Why won't they just pass it a d STP the bleeding for crying out loud!?!?! The politicians aren't going to suffer at all when their job is over. They're all part of the 1%. It will be us, the ordinary hard working citizen that will suffer. And there us no place for us to escape to.

Don't approve a single dollar. That will show him what we think of his secure borders. Send them all back where they came from

To the Governors of the several States: DC created this mess so sendt the entire hoard on busses to the white house lawn and capital hill. If you clog up their own back yard, they'll get the picture. DON'T ALLOW THEM BACK TO YOUR STATE. The Federal government is only in charge of the 10 by 10 mile area called District of Columbia. It's about time they learned that We The People are in charge (through our not-as-disconnected state government).

Not a single one of those 52,000 illegals will EVER be sent back. I can just see that CNN heart wrench special on some poor 10 year old being sent back to Honduras; lots of crying, activists damning America for being heartless, lawyers lawyering to the hilt. Nope, the taxpayer will cloth, feed, house, educate, train, and support these illegals until they’re old enough to vote and beyond. And I think we all know who they will vote for... the hand that feeds them of course.

The United States is a lost cause. Stick a fork in it, it’s done.

Will someone from Washington please tell the citizens of the United States why we were forced to pay billions for passports when those who aren't citizens can just walk or swim to the US and on top of it then we need to support them??Enough, close our borders and safeguard our borders now!! This is beyond rediculous.

Two billion? Those are pretty expensive votes to buy, even by Liberal standards.

Guatemala and Honduras have become cesspools for organized crime and have the highest murder rates in the world. Their leaders are military strong men who are nearly all guilty or suspected of being war criminals. Paying a smuggler to transport children here for a slim chance of being allowed into America is definitely not worse than the alternative.

For much less than $2 Billion. The Us southern border could employ non lethal means to repel criminal immigrants and stop the scumbag coyote that profit from children.
Sound waves could stop anyone in their tracks causing nausea, diarrhea and disorientation. Sort of a visit to Mexico anyway. You want to solve the problem or just spread the pain to the taxpayers?

Speaker Boehner has told Obama the American people do not want spending without Domestic cuts. If he wants the money he will have to agree to more cuts in Federal programs to the people or pass the Keystone pipeline request. But Congress and the Senate quickly approved 130 billion to Israel in 2013 and ready to look for another aid to Israel bill for 2014. Funny Congress says their no money for unemployment, food stamps, road repair or Jobs but wow we can hand out 130 billion to Israel with no questions asked. Israel does great with large financial aid each year and they are able to have Universal health care as introduced by President Nixon. Israel citizens are fully care for with US money while US citizens are told if you can't afford the over priced insurance look for charity or die.

As long as ONE American goes to bed hungry, as long as ONE vet is sleeping under a bridge, as long as ONE American vet or citizen has to go without medical care...........we have no business taking care of anyone else. Fix this country first and then worry about the world.

You can't even take care of your own people and America has allowed illegal immigrants to be here, so now you want to use money that America can use to build more jobs??

Does anyone really think business is going to allow the borders to be closed. Let's face it, employers love cheap labor and will pay off anyone in congress to keep that cheap labor coming across the border. Anyone who hires illegal labor are the ones that should be going to jail.

Wow, he must have finally turned on the news and found out there was a crisis at the border.
One standard method of management in private industry is "management by exception".
Obama's method is "management by crisis".
