Obama to request billions to deal with border crisis

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Monday for emergency funds, possibly more than $2 billion, as the United States grapples with a surge of undocumented children and adults crossing the border from Mexico.

A White House official told CNN the money will go to securing appropriate space for the detention of children but also stemming the tide of immigrants. The government hopes to increase its ability to investigate and dismantle smuggling organizations as well as quickly return children and adults to their home countries if they do not qualify for asylum.

Little-known law allows abused immigrant children to stay in the U.S.

The federal government has struggled to process and accommodate the influx of illegal human traffic but specifically the spike in children. They don’t have enough beds, food or sanitary facilities.

U.S. authorities estimate that between 60,000 to 80,000 children without parents will cross the border this year in what the White House is calling an “immediate humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier in June, the White House announced a plan to spend millions in a government-wide response by sending aide to governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to help with crime and violence prevention.

In mid-June, Vice President Joe Biden also spoke with leaders in the three countries as well as Mexico about working together to promote security.

Biden’s objective was to emphasize that adults arriving with their children in the United States don’t meet the requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which defers deportation for children brought to the United States before June 15, 2012.

Obama also spoke with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto about the issue and has warned families who see the dangerous trip as the best option for their children.

“Do not send your children to the borders. If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it,” Obama said to ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

The White House will also ask Congress to ensure that the administration has the authority it deems necessary to effectively use these funds. That includes expanded authority for Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in processing the return and removal of unaccompanied minor children and increased penalties for individuals who smuggle minors across the border.

CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Someone needs to ask and discover WHO is facilitating this? Who is convincing parents, and by what means, to send unescorted children on such a dangerous trip? Qui bono? This doesn't just 'happen' all of a sudden. Simple common sense says this needs to be looked into.

The issue isn't whether our President requested $2B to care for those children – of course we care for those children. The issue is why and how we allowed this to happen in the first place!!

Obama is now going to call the GOP/TEA's bluff.

Either allocate the proper amount of money to seal the border, or shut up.

GOP's Wall Street cronies will have no part of this. You watch.

They like their cheap labor supply.

Let's obey the same laws that all other nations on Earth obey and enforce. Keep them out and allow them to pursue the legal way!

Last week? it was $250,000 – this week? perhaps 2 BILLION? ... nice to know that these dollars are 'available' – in cold storage? .... why haven't these funds been released sooner, for ongoing, pressing needs of the CITIZENS in THIS country? It takes a Mexican childrens' invasion, to make this dollar availability transparent? ... shameful.

Sure, why not borrow a couple of billion more dollars from China? A drop in the bucket, no? Of course, all those drops are adding up to an incomprehensible sum owed.

The funding should come out of democratic party funds as this is a self inflicted crisis, generated by the constant and outrageous clamoring for amnesty from within that parties ranks.
Note to the editor: It is incorrect to call these children "undocumented" the correct terms are "Illegal alien" or "unlawful alien".

Oh the hubris of our Government ! First they bailed out the banksters and corporations. Then served up the people to the health insurance industry on a silver plate, In 2012 they told us American citizens had not guaranteed right to the courts or trials under NDAA 2012 , now in 2014 we are told illegal immigrants can not be deported without a court order or trial. So now we get to borrow another couple of billion $ to bail out south america .

My only question is when does our government bail out the American people who are suffering record poverty homelessness and 30% unemployment ?

Yes, there's a crisis at the border all right. I'd say thousands of illegal aliens swarming to get into this country in the manner of an invasion is a crisis. In fact, the Obama Administration is a crisis which SHOULD end in impeachment since he's committed enough crimes to warrant it, but NO Republican will initiate the proceedings because they are not now and never have been about justice. They're about money. So long as they get theirs this country can go to the rats. They do not care. Only Mme Le Guillotine can fix this country.

I am very conservative but I am also Christian. As such I don't get the hate and selfishness of most Americans and in all honesty feel ashamed of them. With the exception of the Native American Indians was are all immigrants or the descendants immigrants. We need to be a lot more willing to welcome those who come to our nation who just want a better life and who are willing to work honestly and diligently to get that life. If 100,000,000 people immigrated to America in the next ten years and if they came to work they would only be a blessing. Selfishness is an ugly trait, it is a sin, and it brings shame on all who embrace it.

Here's an idea. As they are coming into this country, we should move to their country. Will all the money we have we could take total control of Mexico. And build a massive exploding wall on the boarder. Keeping the Mexicans and Dictatorship Government behind.

Tell him to use his own money. He created this crisis; so, he can fund it out of his funds.
