(CNN) - President Barack Obama dared Republicans to follow through on their threats to bring a lawsuit against his administration over his use of executive action.
"Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So sue me," Obama said Tuesday at an event in Washington.

"As long as they’re doing nothing, I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something."
Obama’s defiant attitude comes as House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, plans to propose legislation that could bring a lawsuit against him for implementing executive actions that the GOP contends amounts to a breach of his constitutional power by side-stepping the legislative process.
Obama: Boehner's lawsuit is 'a stunt'
Recently, Obama has ramped up his use of executive authority as a way to bypass a deeply divided Congress, avoiding inaction on issues the White House has made hallmarks of the President's second term agenda.
On Monday, Obama said he would start "a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, without Congress."
Poll: Can Obama get the job done?
At Tuesday's event, Obama continued to harp on congressional Republicans to pass legislation - this time pushing them to invest in transportation.
Standing in front of Key Bridge, which connects the city's Georgetown-area to Virginia, Obama continued his stepped-up rhetoric hammering Republican for obstructing action in Washington.
Obama proposed a long-term highway construction bill earlier this year that he says would spur job growth.
"It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism," Obama said of his transportation proposal. "It’s not the imperial presidency - no laws are broken. We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years. But so far, House Republicans have refused to act on this idea."
CNN's Mike Ahlers and Rene Marsh contributed to this report.

a perfect declaration to the fanatics who don't care what he does. anything he does, they are against, even if they wanted it at some time
Sue the best president the Us has ever had, please, get a life.
That's our president. He really knows how to bring all Americans together.
Uh oh Mr. President. There you go with your uppity self! 😊😊😊😊
The President does need to call out the GOP on their idiocy. He's used about 25% of the executive orders Bush did, and the ugly fact is they have done nothing for 6 years. It is delightful to see the GOP- the party that hates "frivolous" lawsuits- engaging in a frivolous lawsuit to drum up attention for their lackluster record. The "Party of stupid" at play, I guess.
Time to take Obama's advice.
In other words......
Obama to [R]s: I'm going to pick you up by the scruff of your dirty little necks and kick your do-nothing little behinds....like I should have done to begin with in 2009.
This citizen supports the president. And I'll gladly sweep-up and dispose of any human body parts that result from the butt-kicking.
If the President had come out swinging like this at the start, his presidency may have been much more positive. All the GOTP understands is when someone finally slaps them in the mouth. Go ahead and sue. Go ahead and run your Benghazi hit parade, but while your at it maybe you could accomplish something like, oh, I don't know........Hey! Job, jobs, jobs, maybe that could go somewhere.
This man is a disgrace. You were elected to serve America – and ALL of its people. NOT just the ones who go along with and allow themselves to be manipulated by your corrupt agenda! Pompous, dangerous. and VERY insecure.
I'm sure they're going to try their best Mr. President. I hope the middle class remembers who is really fighting for them and shows their support by voting the obstructionists out in November.
[R]s - the party of litigation and trial lawyers....when it suits the party and the rich people who support them.
Of course they hypocritically vilify the common man and the court system if he seeks redress under the law.
It is truly a modern bafflement how a sentient being could actually CHOOSE to be labeled a [R] these days. Droves of the marginally smarter ones have already been cowering under the less malignant label of "independent" for some time now.
you gotta give it to the president. he gives it right back to the GOP. he tells it like it is. the GOP need to stop the BS and get on with it. pitch in and help the country instead of putting your party first, impeachment ? sue the guy? i thought you guys did'n't like lawyers and lawsuits. you don't like the little guys suing the big guys but you have no problem taking the president to court because you disagree with him. COME ON MAN!
His arrogance knows no bounds.
Cause its not the results that matter only the 'good intentions'. What has this president done that worked?
Middle class cant wait mr president you are the one thats causing turmoil for the middle class.
The republicans are doing what we elected them to do balance out our government.
It's about time
I like impeach better.
I really think that the Republicans should apologize to the President of the United States...he is trying to do his job for the American people. Mr. President, I truly respect you actions, but not of the Republicans. When the 2016 election time comes, the American people will cast their votes, and the Republicans will loose, because "You Can't win when you insult the President of the United States", and the American people will remember when it comes time to vote for the person that they want in the White House in 2016. God Bless you Mr. President!
Has any congress in US history passed fewer bills?
Thank goodness someone is opposing El Presidente Obama! If not, Obama would have:
– opened the border wide up
– spent millions on building the new Dept of Amnesty
– hand each former "illegal immigrant" a stack of food stamps and pre-marked for Democrat voting ballots as they flood over the border
Sue him? He should be arrested and tried for treason.
Yea Republicans, whaddayagonnado? Obama just told all of you to get bent!
Fight fire with fire Mr President. Unfortunately the only person more out of touch with reality than the republicans in congress is Donald Sterling. It's very close however!
Its about time he calls the rpublicans on their objective to give the president no legilative victories.
