Obama to Republicans: 'So sue me'

(CNN) - President Barack Obama dared Republicans to follow through on their threats to bring a lawsuit against his administration over his use of executive action.

"Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So sue me," Obama said Tuesday at an event in Washington.

"As long as they’re doing nothing, I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something."

Obama’s defiant attitude comes as House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, plans to propose legislation that could bring a lawsuit against him for implementing executive actions that the GOP contends amounts to a breach of his constitutional power by side-stepping the legislative process.

Obama: Boehner's lawsuit is 'a stunt'

Recently, Obama has ramped up his use of executive authority as a way to bypass a deeply divided Congress, avoiding inaction on issues the White House has made hallmarks of the President's second term agenda.

On Monday, Obama said he would start "a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, without Congress."

Poll: Can Obama get the job done?

At Tuesday's event, Obama continued to harp on congressional Republicans to pass legislation - this time pushing them to invest in transportation.

Standing in front of Key Bridge, which connects the city's Georgetown-area to Virginia, Obama continued his stepped-up rhetoric hammering Republican for obstructing action in Washington.

A fundraising first for Obama

Obama proposed a long-term highway construction bill earlier this year that he says would spur job growth.

"It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism," Obama said of his transportation proposal. "It’s not the imperial presidency - no laws are broken. We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years. But so far, House Republicans have refused to act on this idea."

CNN's Mike Ahlers and Rene Marsh contributed to this report.

He's not working for the middle-class. He's working for the poor. Spreading the wealth. Spreading my wealth. What I worked for.

The Republicans have nothing to offer America besides stagnation. They've accomplished nothing except standing in the way of progress. They smear, lie, and simply get paid to do nothing.

I completely support the president because I'm a immigrant myself I have over 12 years of my life living here in the USA, I know fluently English and have adopted this culture. In reality I turned in to a American, but the way the laws work it does not allow me yo become a USA citizen something that I really want to become. Is that fair?

Once you go look up how many times every recent President has used Executive orders to get things done, this lawsuit sounds like more of the typical Tea Party/GOP racism and war against all those not white and male.

"I taught Constitutional Law for 10 years, I take the Constitution very seriously. The biggest problems that we're facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the Executive branch, and not go through Congress at all. And that's what I intend to reverse when I'm President of the United States of America."

This is truly unbelievable. This President is going to start a civil war because he's not getting his way and the GOP won't roll over for him.

Obama KNOWS NOTHING about ECONOMICS! He is a complete idiot when it comes to economics. He doesn't realize what he's doing will destroy America even further when it comes to his Keynesian beliefs. His immigration stance is wrong too. But, no matter what- he should not be able to do what HE thinks is right because that's NOT how America is structured. One person does NOT have the power And in this case, he is WRONG- so the country is protected from his misguided beliefs. Furthermore, Obama is the worst, most criminal President in history– with crimes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worse than Nixon. CNN is absolutely disgusting for never reporting on both sides of the story.

So...for "Obama's scandals", the GOP has:

    1) Benghazi – 1 U.S. embassy sacked. During Dubya's two terms? 11 U.S. embassies sacked..... 11 > 1
    2) IRS – TP idgets send an almost "denial-of-service-attack" like wave of frivolous requests for tax-exempt status, backlogging the IRS for 6 months (see GOP obstructionism) and it is a "scandal" for Obama, not the clownshoes backing up the IRS.
    3) The VA – What a joke. Vets have been dying and complaining about this for decades. That Tom Cruise movie, 4th of July was ABOUT IT. How is it "Obama's scandal", just because he is actually doing something about it (unlike the 4 fat, white guys before him)?
    4) Obama has no backbone with Putin – So, I pray tell, inform us Repubs– what earth shattering action did George Dubya Bush do when Russia annexed the Republic of Georgia in the same fashion? That;s right.......not a dam thing.
