(CNN) - President Barack Obama dared Republicans to follow through on their threats to bring a lawsuit against his administration over his use of executive action.
"Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So sue me," Obama said Tuesday at an event in Washington.

"As long as they’re doing nothing, I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something."
Obama’s defiant attitude comes as House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, plans to propose legislation that could bring a lawsuit against him for implementing executive actions that the GOP contends amounts to a breach of his constitutional power by side-stepping the legislative process.
Obama: Boehner's lawsuit is 'a stunt'
Recently, Obama has ramped up his use of executive authority as a way to bypass a deeply divided Congress, avoiding inaction on issues the White House has made hallmarks of the President's second term agenda.
On Monday, Obama said he would start "a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, without Congress."
Poll: Can Obama get the job done?
At Tuesday's event, Obama continued to harp on congressional Republicans to pass legislation - this time pushing them to invest in transportation.
Standing in front of Key Bridge, which connects the city's Georgetown-area to Virginia, Obama continued his stepped-up rhetoric hammering Republican for obstructing action in Washington.
Obama proposed a long-term highway construction bill earlier this year that he says would spur job growth.
"It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism," Obama said of his transportation proposal. "It’s not the imperial presidency - no laws are broken. We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years. But so far, House Republicans have refused to act on this idea."
CNN's Mike Ahlers and Rene Marsh contributed to this report.

Republicans (Nazi's) do nothing to support this country, NOTHING.
JOHN BOEHNER IS THE MOST INEFFECTIVE LEADER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTIVES IN HISTORY.
s o John here is some advice from an independent voter GET SOME B-. (and not from a bottle)
Wish he'd grown a pair a few years earlier
Obama keeps blaming "do nothing Republicans", but there are 31 bills passed in the House that were sponsored by Dems that are awaiting the Senate to act on them. Three of the Dem sponsored bills sitting in limbo deal with veterans and the military. Dems in the Senate are also holding back pending the outcome of the mid-term elections before taking action on stuff. Obama can't even get his own party in the Dem controlled Senate to follow him because they are afraid of the backlash from voters in Nov.
the hell with suing him. He should be impeached for this! He is not our King and needs to learn that.
Middle class Americans have been waiting for 7 years for congress to do something, anything, to help them. So far, repubs and tea party have stomped their feet in tantrums, whined, complained, wasted money (ie: shutdown), and wasted time instead of doing their jobs and compromising.
You gooooo Mr.President !!!! We are all behind you!
So basically the Republicans are going to sue a President for behaving like a President. Only for the incompetent Republicans understand this plan They will go to the Congressional elections in November with the idea that they sued the President in hopes of gaining popularity. It is almost to idiotic to understand their logic.
Obama...the king of LIPSERVICE!
Wow he is the poster boy of diversity and worst president ever
No more apology for the Republicans who have done a little since the President took office '09. The President has pandered to them too much for the first term, see what they are going to he now.
Obama just doesn't get it ..it's not just the GOP, it's America that's fed up with him and his one lie after another, one scandal after another, one round of golf after another, one fundraiser after another, one joke after another, etc. etc. etc. America is not a better place under his rule .... PERIOD !
It's my opinion if the president doesn't want to use congress anymore than we should just shut down both houses and let president's make all the decisions.
Our country doesn't work like this.
Please keep in mind that many Democrats disagree with Obama and his policies
Arrogant, isn't he?
Not like they are doing anything else, at least they would be doing something. I say we sue Congress for doing nothing while we pay them with our tax dollars.
How about helping the unemployed you abandoned?

GOP and the Tea Party have become extreme and have not contributed anything positive to our Nation well beyond 2008. It's 2014, and dumb to think that people have not opened their eyes to the purposely orchestrated obstructionism and stalling imposed on Obama from the GOP and Tea Party to smear his legacy.
In other news, stocks are at an all time high, the automobile industry is alive, Bin Laden is dead, and all Americans must provide for their OWN insurance... So what's the problem?
Yes, sue him. This Constitution trampling socialist must be stopped NOW!
But according to the MSM, people who don't want to do what he says are racists. This man is a joke. He's the most partisan, derisive, insulting President of my lifetime and then the liberals are amazed that no country nor congress wants to work with him.
Name on bipartisan compromise he's ever proposed in 5 years. Just 1?
I would be nice if Obama counter-sued the House of Representatives for doing nothing, except grandstanding, for their pay. Surely forfeiture of Congress' wages for dereliction of duty would be in order.
Congress is the legislative branch which means it is their responsibility to create laws. Send something to the Senate to deal with the immigration problem or please shut your piehole and resign Mr. Speaker. The needs of the people do not stop simply because Mr. Boehner and his cohorts have a personal dislike for the President.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
So instead of compromise or collaboration with people who don't share your views it's just easier to dictate. I'm sorry, but a Constitutional Scholar should know that's not how our checks and balance system was intended to be run.
Its amazing that Obama has the lowest number of executive orders than any other president in the last 3 decades, And that should be an achievement against this do-nothing Congress, but he's the one who Boehner wants to sue.
Not even the SCOTUS can stop this guy. He has no shame.
King Obama is what I call him
While I disagree with the President's approach, what other choice does he have to accomplish anything when we are in the midst of the most dysfunctional and unproductive Congress, perhaps in history? I'm not talking either side. Both Republican's and Democrats liberal, moderate or conservative share the blame. Its absolutely disgraceful that its come to this point.
