Palin calls for Obama's impeachment over border crisis

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama's inaction over the escalating crisis on the southern border is grounds for impeachment.

The Republican firebrand wrote in a an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative website Breitbart that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Calls for impeachment are coming from the President's harshest critics on the right and have intensified over the new immigration crisis. However, such a step is far-fetched, especially with Democrats currently in control of the Senate.

In the blistering op-ed, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee accuses Obama of intentionally allowing immigrants into the United States, hampering American job opportunities.

"President Obama’s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here," she wrote.

"It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment."

Asked Wednesday about Palin’s comments, House Speaker John Boehner simply said, “I disagree.”

Pressed about others in his own House Republican conference that support impeachment, Boehner repeated, “I disagree.”

Republican opposition flares

Palin, who still remains popular and influential with tea party activists and others on the right,  is hardly the first conservative to accuse the President of unlawful activity.

But her pointed call for Obama’s impeachment adds a high-profile voice to the crowd of Republicans pushing for congressional action over what they view as an overreach of executive authority.

Key races to watch in 2014

Mike Huckabee also leveled heavy criticism at the commander in chief as a wave of illegal immigrants overwhelm federal facilities along the southern border.

In a statement Tuesday as Obama headed to Texas for a Democratic fundraising event, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate – who's mulling another bid in 2016 – slammed the President for not planning to visit the border during his trip to the Lone Star state.

"While tens of thousands of illegal immigrants storm across the border, the President is jetting off to Texas - but not to see first-hand the mess his policies have created, but to attend high-dollar dinners with the 'swells' and extract as much money as he can from some people who got rich on the very oil he despises," Huckabee said.

Huckabee did not call for Obama’s impeachment over the border crisis but has predicted in the past that Obama would be ousted from office because of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Political tensions in Texas

Palin and Huckabee's sharp language comes as Obama requested nearly $4 billion in emergency funds from Congress to better respond to the influx of immigrants illegally crossing the border into Texas.

The state's governor Rick Perry, who ran for president in 2012 and is considering launching another bid in 2016, refused to greet the President at the airport and instead called for a meeting to discuss the immigration crisis.

Perry later accepted the White House's invitation for the Republican governor to meet with Obama in Dallas.

Republicans and even some Democrats contend Obama isn't doing enough to quell a surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

Critics say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years.

CNN's Paul Steinhauser, Tom Cohen, and Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

In fact, It is amusing to me to read the comments desperately trying to paint Gov. Palin as irrelevant.
This is by the same people who watch the view or think Al Franken is a serious politician. You libs hate America and we conservatives are going to stop your agenda from utterly ruining a great nation.

Silent7 so... wait. Since when are Jews not allowed in the country? I am pretty sure Judaism is not a country, or a people nationalized to a country.

I am not a Republican, but a proud Independent. He should have been impeached after the illegal election in 2012, but since it didn't happen, this is a good reason for it. My area has been inundated for years by Mexican Illegals and now we're inundated with the unaccompanied kids Obama invited in. Just for my unaccompanied minor daughter to fly we had to pay through the nose, but apparently the so-called president can invite them.

I am floored by the ignorance of those who support Obama! Impeach! Close the borders! I have friends who have gone through the system to be a citizen- through the proper channels and not by dumping children, disease and expectations for free handouts when so many of us bust our asses to reach for the 'American Dream'! The only thing happening here is the 'buying' of more liberals at the TAX payers expense!!!

If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. Two Americans just got eight years for crossing the Iranian border. If you cross the U.S. border illegally, you get a job, a driver license, food stamps, a place to live, health care, housing, child benefits, education, and a tax free business for 7 years?. No wonder we’re a country in debt.

I am sure this one of the signs of the apocalypse when the voice of reason in all this is Sarah Palin and John Boehner.

These first few comments disturb me. This man and his administration are so crooked. They are trying to overwhelm and destroy the US Economy. In our countries ashes they will make their socialist euphoria. Scary scary. People need to wake up. All the horrible diseases they are allowing in here. Thank the lord I am a vaccinator.

Why anyone would listen to anything that wing nut has to say just baffles me. If she's so worried about illegal immigrants is she next going to call for the deportation of anyone related to illegal immigrants from ever? If so, the Plymouth rock set needs to watch out.
And impeachment is for ousting a president who is guilty of high crimes and treason. I wonder if she would have called for Dubya's ousting for outright lying to the US about WMD's and wasting trillions of dollars and thousands of young lives on a war that was primarily about his own financial interests?
Sara Palin is a waste of good air and a prime reason why first cousins shouldn't breed. Was so hoping her 15 minutes was up.

Democrats had control of congress and the Presidency for 2 years and could have passed anything! But they were too busy taking over the healthcare industry. Yeah blame Republicans! Live in California where if you are poor and white you get turned down for services but if you just got here you get whatever you want. Not even kidding
