Palin calls for Obama's impeachment over border crisis

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama's inaction over the escalating crisis on the southern border is grounds for impeachment.

The Republican firebrand wrote in a an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative website Breitbart that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Calls for impeachment are coming from the President's harshest critics on the right and have intensified over the new immigration crisis. However, such a step is far-fetched, especially with Democrats currently in control of the Senate.

In the blistering op-ed, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee accuses Obama of intentionally allowing immigrants into the United States, hampering American job opportunities.

"President Obama’s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here," she wrote.

"It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment."

Asked Wednesday about Palin’s comments, House Speaker John Boehner simply said, “I disagree.”

Pressed about others in his own House Republican conference that support impeachment, Boehner repeated, “I disagree.”

Republican opposition flares

Palin, who still remains popular and influential with tea party activists and others on the right,  is hardly the first conservative to accuse the President of unlawful activity.

But her pointed call for Obama’s impeachment adds a high-profile voice to the crowd of Republicans pushing for congressional action over what they view as an overreach of executive authority.

Key races to watch in 2014

Mike Huckabee also leveled heavy criticism at the commander in chief as a wave of illegal immigrants overwhelm federal facilities along the southern border.

In a statement Tuesday as Obama headed to Texas for a Democratic fundraising event, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate – who's mulling another bid in 2016 – slammed the President for not planning to visit the border during his trip to the Lone Star state.

"While tens of thousands of illegal immigrants storm across the border, the President is jetting off to Texas - but not to see first-hand the mess his policies have created, but to attend high-dollar dinners with the 'swells' and extract as much money as he can from some people who got rich on the very oil he despises," Huckabee said.

Huckabee did not call for Obama’s impeachment over the border crisis but has predicted in the past that Obama would be ousted from office because of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Political tensions in Texas

Palin and Huckabee's sharp language comes as Obama requested nearly $4 billion in emergency funds from Congress to better respond to the influx of immigrants illegally crossing the border into Texas.

The state's governor Rick Perry, who ran for president in 2012 and is considering launching another bid in 2016, refused to greet the President at the airport and instead called for a meeting to discuss the immigration crisis.

Perry later accepted the White House's invitation for the Republican governor to meet with Obama in Dallas.

Republicans and even some Democrats contend Obama isn't doing enough to quell a surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

Critics say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years.

CNN's Paul Steinhauser, Tom Cohen, and Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

If you listen to S. Palin you know she jumps on every train that passes. Fortunately the voters in 2008 realized that she was a wacko then and she has not changed. I would not take any advice from the person who quit the job she was elected to do, and all she does now is show up on Fox News and the next GOP/Tea Party rally make her money and wait for the next train. She is so sad.

Who in these United States cares what this loser says? I just think it is a shame she is given any media time at all. She is a sore sore loser and has nothing to offer this country anyway. The only reason they listen to her at all is because she is white. I can't believe how racist this country is. If you read any articles about our president they never fail to address the fact that he is black. How sad is that? I believe he is trying to get the country back on track but considering the fact that the country was in such a deficit it is not a easy job. Where were all the naysayers when Bush was in office.

A president may be impeached for treason, bribery, high crimes or misdemeanor. Kids learn this in high school. Surely even Sarah Palin knows that you can't impeach a president just because you don't like him. She is trying to stay relevant, but she is just continuing to show everyone how ignorant she really is.

What's a Palin, is this Michael Palin from Monte Python?
She was a small town mayor that somehow got elected governor of one of the least populated states and then resigned before finishing her term. When will she go away?
She is like Shakespeare, half the people think she is the greatest thing ever and the other half have no idea what the first half sees.

How can the government even think about approving billions of dollars for people in this country illegally when they won’t even approve and simple bill for an unemployment extension that is need to allow our veterans and citizens to house, feed and care for their (legal )children. The money wanted for illegals is only the start of the cost we will have to bear. Think of the time and expense to our legal system if we give all of these people a hearing. If allowed to stay in country we will have to pay for their housing, education and health care for years, what will this cost us? The easiest fix for this problem is to bear the cost to return these persons to their own country and let that country assume the responsibility and cost to care for them.
We can stop this border problem by taking all of the military and equipment that Obama wants to remove from service and put them in camps every 10 miles along the remote border areas. Then have all of the reserve and National Guard do their yearly required training working the remote border areas.
This free up border and customs agent to better cover the more populated areas and do away with the need for more money for the border as the military is already budgeted.

umm...I'm sure Fox News didn't tell you this, but he is actually abiding by the law. The William Wilberforce Trafficing Act sign into law by the Great George W. Bush requires:

"unaccompanied minors being caught by Border Patrol agents must be handed over to the Department of Health and Human Services, which coordinates care for them, finds them safe housing and helps advise them on their legal rights as their immigration cases are decided."

Isn't it somewhat irresponsible for CNN or any news agency that wants to take itself seriously to report something just because Sarah Palin said it on a conservative blog? How is that news? What authority does she possess that merits our being introduced to her support for some idea that someone else came up with? Why is she still sought out for comment, or even considered newsworthy?

This Republican bluster about impeachment is all they've got. They have no ideas, they have a wholly anti-intellectual take on foreign policy that makes Reagan look like a think-tank Ph.D., and predictably, here comes this, which Palin is sure to follow, given her relentless drive to keep her name alive. It's depressing.

It is unfortunate American leaders are attempting to split, rather than unify, the country. Failure to compromise is the sign of an immature mind. We need future leaders to be enlightened–looking for new solutions to division rather than fan the flames of intolerance. If immigrants pose a problem for you, then America, the self-proclaimed land of the free and open to immigrants from all over the world, is probably not a good fit for you.
