Palin calls for Obama's impeachment over border crisis

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama's inaction over the escalating crisis on the southern border is grounds for impeachment.

The Republican firebrand wrote in a an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative website Breitbart that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Calls for impeachment are coming from the President's harshest critics on the right and have intensified over the new immigration crisis. However, such a step is far-fetched, especially with Democrats currently in control of the Senate.

In the blistering op-ed, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee accuses Obama of intentionally allowing immigrants into the United States, hampering American job opportunities.

"President Obama’s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here," she wrote.

"It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment."

Asked Wednesday about Palin’s comments, House Speaker John Boehner simply said, “I disagree.”

Pressed about others in his own House Republican conference that support impeachment, Boehner repeated, “I disagree.”

Republican opposition flares

Palin, who still remains popular and influential with tea party activists and others on the right,  is hardly the first conservative to accuse the President of unlawful activity.

But her pointed call for Obama’s impeachment adds a high-profile voice to the crowd of Republicans pushing for congressional action over what they view as an overreach of executive authority.

Key races to watch in 2014

Mike Huckabee also leveled heavy criticism at the commander in chief as a wave of illegal immigrants overwhelm federal facilities along the southern border.

In a statement Tuesday as Obama headed to Texas for a Democratic fundraising event, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate – who's mulling another bid in 2016 – slammed the President for not planning to visit the border during his trip to the Lone Star state.

"While tens of thousands of illegal immigrants storm across the border, the President is jetting off to Texas - but not to see first-hand the mess his policies have created, but to attend high-dollar dinners with the 'swells' and extract as much money as he can from some people who got rich on the very oil he despises," Huckabee said.

Huckabee did not call for Obama’s impeachment over the border crisis but has predicted in the past that Obama would be ousted from office because of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Political tensions in Texas

Palin and Huckabee's sharp language comes as Obama requested nearly $4 billion in emergency funds from Congress to better respond to the influx of immigrants illegally crossing the border into Texas.

The state's governor Rick Perry, who ran for president in 2012 and is considering launching another bid in 2016, refused to greet the President at the airport and instead called for a meeting to discuss the immigration crisis.

Perry later accepted the White House's invitation for the Republican governor to meet with Obama in Dallas.

Republicans and even some Democrats contend Obama isn't doing enough to quell a surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

Critics say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years.

CNN's Paul Steinhauser, Tom Cohen, and Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

Somebody needs to explain to the Impeachicans that even starting the process before the 2014 elections would result in a backlash that would give the Democrats a few extra seats that they probably would have lost. Even waiting until after the election would just give the Democrats ammunition for 2016.

Obama should have been impeached for lying to the entire country about Obamacare. And then there is the use of the IRS and other federal agencies to attack and harrass hundreds of TEA Party groups, his political opponents. It just doesn't get any more more unAmerican than that.

The clown hasn't been truthful about anything and his administration is the most incompetent, corrupt group of clowns to ever be assembled. To have to endure two more years of this as our country is now invaded on the southern border is hard to imagine.

If Obama is not a candidate for impeachment we owe apologies to Bill Clinton and to the memory of Andrew Johnson.

As for the illegal immigrants, if they had enough energy and stamina to walk into the United States, they should certainly be able to walk back. It wouldn't require billions of dollars to have the National Guard round them up and march them back across the border. Repeat offenders should be treated like the criminals they are and be subject to the penalties of breaking our laws, even if underage offenders have to be referred to the juvenile justice system. Enough is enough.

If you can impeach someone over gross incompetence, then Obama would be the guy.

Palin comments reminds me of what is hampering the GOP. They are quick to point out a problem but offer no solutions or better plans. Some examples include this immigration issue, Iraq civil war, Crimea, or Obamacare. All issues they like to fuss about with no solutions or better plans. I am in the middle on most issues and I have yet to understand the GOP vision other than oppose Obama no matter what. What happen to the days that people presented solutions when they disagreed. They would get more credit with the middle voters if they laid out a plan. Quit pointing the fingers and let me know what you think the country should do and then lets talk about it.

WHO??? Wasn't she the one who was associated with someone who QUIT in the middle of her term of office as an elected representative?? And yet, there are people who take this 'person' seriously?? THIS is exactly what is wrong with this country when we start idolizing and listening to the likes of this!

    Please, impeach the President...

And in doing so, after you fail, you will have relegated the Republican Party to irrelevancy for a generation.

So, George W. steals an election, doesn't protect us against 9/11, lies us into invading Iraq, lets New Orleans drown, and almost destroys the economy. Yet it's Obama they're complaining about. The mind reels.

Don't laugh too loud liberals. IMPEACHMENT is in the works and come next January all of you may find you actually support impeachment as more criminal activity is linked to the administration. I found it pathetic that people still beelieve in IBAMAO after all he has done to the middle and lower class while protecting the elite. It explains why America is struggling with education and social problems. If you folks cannot understand the problem then how do you expect to provide a solution – OBAMAO is so disconnected that he does not understand the problem. AND now Democrats are starting to swing over, understanding they better be on board with a winning side this November as NobamaCare lowers the boom on all the illegal waivers. Reality in your pocketbook will set in and you will then realize that you have been had by the world's greatest conman, King OBAMAO
