Unusual trio pushes for action on immigration

(CNN) - An unlikely trio is pushing for an end to the deadlock in Washington over immigration reform.

Sheldon Adelson, a casino mogul and major Republican donor, teamed up with tech billionaire Bill Gates and investor icon Warren Buffett, both supporters of President Barak Obama, to urge Congress and the White House to find common ground on immigration reform.

[twitter-follow screen_name='politicalticker'][twitter-follow screen_name='danadavidsenCNN']

"Americans deserve better than this," they wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times published Thursday.

“The three of us vary in our politics and would differ also in our preferences about the details of an immigration reform bill. But we could without doubt come together to draft a bill acceptable to each of us," they wrote.

"We hope that fact holds a lesson: You don’t have to agree on everything in order to cooperate on matters about which you are reasonably close to agreement. It’s time that this brand of thinking finds its way to Washington."

Obama and Republicans have come to a stalemate on immigration reform legislation just as a surge of Central American immigrant minors illegally crossing the southern border has sparked national controversy.

Obama asked Congress for $3.7 billion for a border solution but Republicans immediately raised concerns, especially over the cost of the measure. And the fact that midterm elections are less than four months away doesn’t ease prospects for passage.

The op-ed concludes: “It’s time for 535 of America’s citizens to remember what they owe to the 318 million who employ them.”

    Eh, Well,
Try selling that to the American People. The Hoard that are flooding he Southern Border now are going to be foisted on the U.S. Tax Payer. Amnesty will not happen but to the Bleeding Heart Liberals it won't matter. They aren't going to pay the bill.
    ----------
If you don't want taxpayers to foot the bill, then tell Boehner to pass a bill that changes the law requiring it.
    ----------
So it can go to the Senate where it will collect cobwebs waiting for Reid to bring it to the floor? Yup... that'll work.

  2. Amnesty = Treason

"Americans deserve better than this," they wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times published Thursday. And they also deserve jobs – get rid of H1B visas and enforce the border!

“It’s time for 535 of America’s citizens to remember what they owe to the 318 million who employ them.”
Actually, it's time for 3 so-called Americans to shut up because they do not speak for 313.9 million hard working Americans that need jobs now!

And there is the Conservative mindset- as long as it is welfare to the rich, “incentives” to big oil, or war, or “deficits don’t matter”- it doesn’t affect Americans.

    ----

Ummmm, you said there was zero impact and you are wrong. There is tremendous impact to the general public and to all of te places where these illegal immigrants are coming and staying. You ignore that because it doesn't affect you personally. Very selfish attitude of yours. And because it's OPP that you are so generous with, it won't even occur to you. As far as a tax cut (by the way, EVERYONE received a tax cut, not just the top 1% as you like to lie, errrrrr mislead people with). I love the liberal mindset. Taking less money from people somehow costs others.

What we have at the border is an INVASION and the Democratic party and the Obama administration is giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
It’s time to charge these Democrats with treason and remove them from office.

We don't know if our current immigration laws work because most of them are not being enforced. Law enforcement RELEASES three times more illegals than they detain and deport. Obama has granted amnesty to a large group illegally and unconstitutionally. The border is obviously not secured. Why should anybody expect new laws to work if the same non-enforcement, non-secure border exists?!

If I were President I could get this problem under control in one year, no problem, guaranteed fixed, with current laws.
That is because I would be committed to enforcing all of the laws on the books, along with the aid of all local law enforcement agencies across the country. I would NOT be suing them as the Obama administration has done. THAT tells you where their interests lie, with keeping illegals IN THIS COUNTRY.

Cheap labor. For example, around the year 2000 the California major hotel industry was unionized by workers in the housekeeping and maintenance departments. Average salary was around $15/hour with benefits. The positions were filled mostly by African-Americans, roughly 80%. Today, those same jobs pay minimum wage without benefits and are almost exclusively filled by Hispanics. With facts like that, conservatives have still convinced people the Democrats want a flood of cheap labor, when in truth it's the other way around.

  7. Say WHAT???

Only In America could something like this be allowed to happen. The Democrats political agenda has trumped and superceded the oath of office they take when elected. This has been to the detriment of this country and its citizens. The Democrats have basically spit in the face of every American citizen and said our laws don't matter, our jobs don't matter, our country doesn't matter, our borders don't matter.

The ONLY way this insanity will end is when the American people REMOVE DEMOCRATS from all federal offices. Their far leftist agenda is destroying this country in so many ways it is ridiculous. Their divisive rhetoric has us all at each others throats and illegals here have more rights than we do.

Nancy Pelosi says all of these people invading our country are citizens already. Citizens of the Americas. The woman is completely off her rocker. Her view is the mindset of the Democrat party, OPEN BORDERS. If she and the Democrats had their way, tens of millions would be invading our country every year.

I am sure they will get around to some huge unmanageable bill that has some terrible things for enforcement buried in it. It is all as Obama has planned. Its a suckers game any way to stack it and I am sure the Republicans will swallow the hook.

Read the hi-lights of Obama's immigration bill, then you'll see why three of the biggest corporate shysters on the planet are crying to get immigration reform done. Not only does Obama give 11 million illegals citizenship, he doubles and triples the amount of foreigners that can get in the country in the future. You know who wrote that legislation. All the top corporate heads were at the table and Obama gave them everything they wanted to get their support. Now they'll have all the slaves and top talent they can handle at half the price.

    --–

We do welcome them, at the front, legal entry door. Is there something about that that you do not understand? Many millions know and follow the process and ARE welcomed.

So you are saying the USA should have completely open borders and allow anybody into the country that walks across the border and then grant them citizenship? We should basically have no immigration laws because many of them don't welcome everybody.

    =====================

    What she said is this:

“Nonetheless, we have to address the three points that Congressman Vela made, and one of them is to work with our Central American neighbors, to be good neighbors. We’re all Americans in this hemisphere. North and South America – to work together to improve the situation in those countries, so that the danger is not so keen, to be careful about the trafficking issue, which is a concern to all of us – wherever it happens in the world – and on our border, our responsibility to do so in way that is in the best interest of the children, what they call the ‘best interest determination.’

The rest of the transcript is online if you;d care to read it. Not once did she talk about open borders. But feel free to take statements out of context and twist it to suit your agenda, as the right does so well.

why? you don’t even know what it is a picture of and what is happening and why. it was meant to provoke emotions which is why cnn has used it. one usually gets put in a hold like that when they are resisting arrest.

Actually just..... "Resisting arrest" is nothing but the excuse dirty cops use to hide their crimes. I've seen plenty of times when cops use excessive force and then turn around and justify it by saying the person was resisting arrest. Funny, I didn't see the homeless lady in CA resisting arrest while she was being beaten half to death by a male cop.

Everyone received a tax cut? It's all relative, tom. There are rates, and then there are deductions and credits. The middle class people living paycheck to paycheck actually saw a tax increase. The first round of Bush Tax Cuts gave a pretty generous rate cut to the wealthy, particularly with the capital gains cuts. Rates for the middle went up slightly, but Bush promised that people could recover from the increase by taking advantage of new deductions on investments. The average working family of four could not afford to make those investments. They saw an effective tax increase.

Giving everyone a tax deduction that most people could not take advantage of is not a "tax cut" for everyone.

Pack up all the illegals coming across the border and bus them straight to the Canadian border and push them into Canada. That is what Mexico is doing to us. Canada needs more people anyways. I am 110% sure our Canadian neighbors will welcome these hundreds of thousands of new Canadians with open arms, and free socialized healthcare.

So what say you Canadians?! Have we got a deal for you!

More than anything what they really want is to find a way to leverage this so that they can demand draconian border security measures AND a 'trigger" system for anything even remotely resembling a pathway to non-voting, non-citizenship, taxed-without-representation "legal" status, which is entirely left in the hands of the governors of southern red states along the border and given such loosey-goosey definitions that those governors can block even THAT sub-citizen status pathway from ever being triggered.

Don't act stupid. The law only applies to unescorted minors. They seek out and approach border patrol agents, where they surrender themselves. In other words, sending National Guard troops wouldn't make a difference.

Please explain in 50 words or less how there is a 'tremendous impact' to the general public? boner has a bill he could put up for a vote which would fix this but won't. That is Obama's fault? Obama asked for less than 4 billion but they don't want to give it to him. They want him to do something (last time he 'did something' they sued him. If he doesn't 'do something' they want to impeach him) while they sit on their hands and criticize.
So please, tell me how a problem Obama has agreed to take care of for 4 billion is a 'tremendous impact', but the 24 billion squandered on the teabagger government shutdown got not only zero outrage from you, but you in fact defended the 24 billion dollar loss as if it were nothing... but this is a 'tremendous impact'

Your hypocracy continues to shine so brightly.
