Unusual trio pushes for action on immigration

(CNN) - An unlikely trio is pushing for an end to the deadlock in Washington over immigration reform.

Sheldon Adelson, a casino mogul and major Republican donor, teamed up with tech billionaire Bill Gates and investor icon Warren Buffett, both supporters of President Barak Obama, to urge Congress and the White House to find common ground on immigration reform.

[twitter-follow screen_name='politicalticker'][twitter-follow screen_name='danadavidsenCNN']

"Americans deserve better than this," they wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times published Thursday.

“The three of us vary in our politics and would differ also in our preferences about the details of an immigration reform bill. But we could without doubt come together to draft a bill acceptable to each of us," they wrote.

"We hope that fact holds a lesson: You don’t have to agree on everything in order to cooperate on matters about which you are reasonably close to agreement. It’s time that this brand of thinking finds its way to Washington."

Obama and Republicans have come to a stalemate on immigration reform legislation just as a surge of Central American immigrant minors illegally crossing the southern border has sparked national controversy.

Obama asked Congress for $3.7 billion for a border solution but Republicans immediately raised concerns, especially over the cost of the measure. And the fact that midterm elections are less than four months away doesn’t ease prospects for passage.

The op-ed concludes: “It’s time for 535 of America’s citizens to remember what they owe to the 318 million who employ them.”

Please go live in the squalor, daily violence and third-world lawlessness of a place like Honduras and experience it first hand for yourself...THEN you can talk about whether someone if a refugee or not. The fact that you focused in on it like that shows that you're already aware of what good arguments they have for being treated as such and you're trying desperately to head it off at the pass.

This very same thing could be said about most places around the globe. We can't allow everybody to come here. There are legal limits for immigration for a very good reason. The leftist Democrats just don't care as they think somebody else will always pay for their insanity. The fair left agenda of the Democrat Party must trump all logic, laws and reason.

Please explain how someone can deport more people than any president in history and NOT do his job of following the law at the same time? Please explain this amazing accomplishment.

I see that you've forgotten about the comprehensive immigration reform bill that has been sitting Boehner's desk for the past 18 months or so. I see that you've completely ignored the fact that Republicans said that they preferred a piece meal approach to immigration reform, but have yet to produce the first piece.
    --

total garbage there rudy. we don't need comprehensive reform, aka obamagration, to address this problem. we don't need 2,800 pages that nobody reads or understands with assurances that if we like this country, we can keep this country, etc. only to find out we were lied to and conned again by the democrats and obama.

this is a very specific problem that calls for a very targeted solution. why aren't the democrats, specifically obama and reid, not repealing the law that allows this to happen?

"So you are saying the USA should have completely open borders and allow anybody into the country that walks across the border and then grant them citizenship?"
    -
NOBODY is saying that. NOBODY AT ALL.
    -–

Of course none of you will come right out and say it! But it IS what you want. Democrats refusal to enforce our laws and our borders with large amnesties every 10-20 years has been the pattern. Why should we not expect it to continue like this forever? You all think it is impossible or too costly to secure the border and don't want to deport every single person here illegally.
    ____________________
This is the problem with the irrational Right. The immigration bill passed in the Senate specifically does not contain Amnesty, yet the Hose GOP claims it does. No one Right or Left wants or says they want "open borders", yet that's the Rights' talking point.

How can we discuss these things as rational adults when one side has facts and the other fantasy?

It isn't about facts; it isn't about unfinished legislation; it isn't about helping children (so odd for the pro-life crowd) Rudy. It is about conflict. The GOP wants a fight- even when there is no reason for one. The American people WANT immigration reform, people in Texas are reaching out to these kids, but Perry just wants them gone (despite his prior support), the GOP just wants another point of contention, and the ability to halt progress on another front- it hides the complete collapse of their Benghazi idiocy in Issa's hearing yesterday.

    --------------------–
I wonder where they got the idea from? You don't think that they might have gotten the idea from watching "America's News Network", do you? That network talks about it a whole lot. In fact, they're the only ones that do talk about it, so it must have been "America's News Network".

Obama told us (warned us) he was going to fundamentally transform this country. We now are seeing exactly what he meant by that statement. Our country will die a slow painful death because he thinks the USA is just too big and powerful and must be taken down a notch or two or completely. Keep voting for Democrats America and watch it all happen quickly.

    =============================================================
Total garbage? Ah, I guess I hit it pretty close to the mark. The comprehensive bill included 20,000 more agents on the border. It included more judges and courts to expedite the legal process, in order to discourage the illegal path. It even included funding for additional fencing.

Nothing changes the fact that Republicans rejected the comprehensive bill, claiming that they preferred a piece meal approach. America's still waiting for Republicans to step up to the plate and take their turn at bat. Democrats have taken as far as they can take it by themselves. Republicans have foolishly not done anything, and adamantly refuse to reconsider doing anything. They'd rather blame Pres. Obama for their own actions, or lack thereof. That's all fine and dandy with me. The more Republicans let this border crisis go on, the more people will learn about it, and what is really going on.

You got that right Rudy! And the Democrats are going to find out the hard way in November the American people do like their country being invaded and the invaders being helped by Obama and the federal government. They do not like being lie to either. Obama: "The border is secure." Yet tens of thousands of children can easily walk into the country and say I'm here, take care of me!

Politically correct labels? Terms like "refugee" (or similar words) can have legal significance, particularly when we're talking about concepts like asylum. Perhaps if you took off the tinfoil hat, stopped hyperventilating for a second and thought things through, you'd realize simple concepts like that...instead of just throwing a myopic hissy fit over your conservative butthurt over the country turning brown and the GOP rapidly approaching demographic Armageddon.

Good grief. There you go again. Hasn't it ever occurred to you that if we shutdown the border as you suggest that it would put thousands of Americans out of work? There are people who commute back and forth to work as managers and supervisors in Mexican manufacturing plants. Thousands of people who live in the U.S., but work for a living in Mexico.

Why isn't Mexico doing more to stem the tide? Haven't you heard that many of local police and government officials are corrupt, and frequently not by choice? It would take coordinated action at the local level along the entire length of the country, and that's not likely to happen. Sorry, Mexico. There are just too many gangs and cartels to make that possible. At $7000 per head, on average, this smuggling operation is a cash cow for them.
