Christie comes under attack as he heads to Iowa

(CNN) - Two days before New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie heads to Iowa, a conservative group is launching digital ads that slam the potential 2016 Republican presidential contender over his Garden State record on judicial nominations.

A top Christie adviser defended the governor's record and criticized the group.

The Judicial Crisis Network announced that it will go up Tuesday with digital ads that attack Christie for not making the New Jersey Supreme Court more conservative. The group says it will spend $75,000 to run 90 second and 15 second spots.

"Chris Christie promised to change New Jersey's liberal Supreme Court. Five openings later: no change. Instead: a liberal Democrat for chief justice," says the narrator in the ad.

Some conservative activists were mad at Christie for his renomination earlier this year of Democrat Stuart Rabner, the state Supreme Court chief justice. That renomination was part of a deal Christie made with the Democratic dominated state legislature that allowed him fill a court vacancy with a Republican judge.

The narrator in the 90 second digital ad goes on to say that "important issues like Obamacare are at stake in our courts. The next president of the United States may get to appoint as many as three U.S. Supreme Court nominees. A new majority. Call Chris Christie. Tell him to fight for judges who respect the rule of law."

Top Christie political adviser Mike DuHaime said the Judicial Crisis Network "should get their facts straight."

"Gov. Christie has nominated multiple conservatives to the Supreme Court but several have been blocked by the Democrat Senate. Yet, Governor Christie has still been able to get three Republicans on to the state's highest court, making it more conservative. However, this group has been noticeably absent from any judicial fight we've had in New Jersey, showing up only to criticize after the fights are over," DuHaime told CNN.

Christie, a pragmatic conservative who's willing to compromise with state Democrats to get things accomplished, is anything but a crowd favorite among some on the right. But Christie was well received last month when he spoke at the fifth annual Road to the Majority conference, a major social conservative gathering which is organized by Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Coalition.

Christie in spotlight at major social conservative gathering

"He's the first pro-life governor of New Jersey since Roe v. Wade. He's line-item vetoed state funding for Planned Parenthood every year he's been governor. He vetoed a same-sex marriage bill that the Democratic legislature sent him. And he's a faithful Catholic. We don't agree with him on every issue, but we wanted to give him an opportunity to share his story and make his case," Reed told CNN prior to the conference.

Christie's heads to Iowa Thursday in his role as chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Christie will headline a fundraiser for longtime GOP Gov. Terry Branstad, who's running for re-election this year. Christie will also help raise money for the RGA and for Republican Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen.

The trip will create more buzz about Christie's 2016 intentions, as Iowa's caucuses are the first contest in the race for the White House. Later this month Christie headlines a Republican Party fundraiser in New Hampshire, the state that holds the first primary in the primary and caucus calendar. It's his second trip to the Granite State in the past month.

Stop it now you guys. Republicans fall in line and we need to be cohesive and focused. This is not the way to win in 2016. We out here are screaming, we want the current administration gone, and you are hindering the process.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

LOL – you are aware, aren't you Beth, that President Obama is term-limited and won't be running for reelection in 2016?!

I'll say this for Christie, apparently he is not ideologically as far right as many would like. I don't know how to take that because he is unwavering in some of his unthinking ideology like his refusal to raise taxes when it needs to help balance the budget and to pay for the roads.

Half-truths. The Dem legislature refused to hold hearings on these appointees. It's a political stand-off in NJ right now, with the Dems acting like spoiled children. It's embarrassing.

Sounds just like the scenario playing out in D.C., except there it's the other party holding the ENTIRE NATION hostage.

Christi politics are "school yard bully" tactics and more related to mob mentality than decent negotiation and compromise. It is about time the rest of the country see this "Soprano" style leadership for what it is before it is too late. He came to office with so much promise, but as the previous, just filled with lies and narcissistic ego. Is there not one leader with decency in their veins?

It is amazing how we get all the press reporting about a bridge closing yet hear very little about all the scandals and deaths caused by Hillary and Obama-No wonder we have people responding the way the do with only what the Dem. press cares to feedf them.Get rid of the press and have non partisan reporting if that is possible-report all the news or none at all.

You're joking, right? All those so-called "Obama/Hillary scandals" have proven to be nothing more than the brain farts of the hate-filled right. There's only so much "reporting" one can do when there's no "there" there, and believe me, CNN and other "librul" media organizations beat those dead horses until they were but a putrid stain on the side of the road.

Oh cry me a river. The faux GOP scandals are in the news daily. At least Benghazi was until a culprit was caught. But you cry about one lousy article on Crispy, when it's the GOP that's attacking him. Not the Democrats, not Big Bad Obama. Members of his own party are attacking him for NOT towing the line.

    Get a grip dude.

I don't know where you see news but the MSM is doing nothing but scandal baiting and suggestive headlines. These "scandals" have run their course one by one – you did read about the military witnesses debunking the latest Benghazi "stand-down" nonsense, right?

There are no more stories about Birthers or Death Panels either. Because they are over.

you GOP fools – Christie is in a Dem state where he has to fight every day tooth and nail to keep them from pushing the state into oblivion – and this is the tough type of leader the GOP needs – his plain talk will attract young Dem voters – compared to the other candidates he is a true leader – Rubio is 10 years old, Jeb Bush is related to the worst president ever, Huckabee and Santorum are dinosaurs. Carson has never run anything and Cruz is a right wingnut who won't attract crossover voters...and I am a Repub

It is amazing how we get all the press reporting about a bridge closing (oh, did we now... I think the coverage of that has been very lax, myself... but I attribute that to the tight knit team investigating it which has held their cards close to their vest. You are probably guaging it on what you consider an 'investigation', which consists of derwood issa and his committee of clowns throwing out wild and baseless allegations, spending taxpayer money wily nilly on partisan witch hunts with an end result of a bunch of misinformed - like they weren't enough already- republicants who still believe saddam perpetrated 9-11) yet hear very little about all the scandals and deaths caused by Hillary and Obama (that is because those are made up scandals created out of thin air with no basis in reality) -No wonder we have people responding the way the do with only what the Dem. press cares to feedf them. (uh... Dems do not have an entire network devoted to propaganda, purposeful misleading, and outright lying, which is why YOU are so misinformed) Get rid of the press and have non partisan reporting if that is possible-report all the news or none at all (why that is just silly... all the non partisan reporting gets screamed and shouted down as the 'lame stream media, and the librul media, and other such nonsense- apparently, based on your post, if the story doesn't find Obama, Hillary, or some other Dem guilty of murder, then it just isn't worth reporting).

What a silly, silly little rant....

@a concerned citizen – What investors did he lie to? Are you confusing Christie with past Gov. Corzine (D)? Or pehaps McGreevy (D). Then you dont want Christie (R) to defend himself when a NJ Assemblyman (D) with a vendetta is charging ahead with nothing on him. Talk about a waste of NJ money. Then you say He cant fix little Blue NJ, well he has done more to get NJ (D) back then any of the 10 previous admistrations combined (R&D). And he has pretty much done this with a no support in teh legislative branch. Something Obama certainly failed at. Christie has done it by compromising (read article above) with them to move us forward. I have yet to see Obama (or D & Rs) compromise on anything. So you should be scared that your fifdom may sometime be called to account for all its ills if Christie were to be elected. So keep spouting away with your half truths and complete lies.

Simply put, because there is no news there. Republicans have nothing to show for it besides conspiracy theories and false talking points. The right wing's conspiracies and scandals are completely devoid of substance and facts.

Tommy laugh if you want he's not he knows he lied yo investors about what they were buying lied about the train project, just so he could kill it, and misappropriate funds yo cover other commitments, then channel that money in the form of tax breaks for the rich, you know the gop governors s.o.p.,the one that has their states robbing pension funds you obviously are unfamiliar with how working Americans think, hence the hardcore gop loyalty.

The more the TP one issue Conservatives bash him the more I like him. Mainstream Republicans are focused on traditional fiscal conservative issues and a smaller government, the remaining conservative social issues and absolutist 2nd amendment folks damage the brand.

Christie conservative enough to scare the progressives in knowing that moderates will go Republican versus Democrat.
