Obama to discuss immigration crisis with Central American leaders

Washington, (CNN) – The White House announced Friday that leaders from three Central American countries will meet with President Obama next week to discuss the ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Obama will hold talks with President Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala, President Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras, and President Salvador Sanchez Ceren of El Salvador on July 25.

“The four leaders and Vice President Biden will discuss how to reinforce our ongoing collaboration to stem the flow of undocumented migrants from Central America to Mexico and the United States,” read a statement from the White House.

The witch's brew: Desperation, hope and children on the border

“This will include discussion of how the United States and Central American governments are cooperating to promote safe, legal, and orderly migration between our countries in a spirit of shared responsibility, including with respect to the return of family units, which began this week for all three countries,” the statement continued.

Close to 60,000 mostly unaccompanied children from Central America have crossed the U.S. border since the beginning of the year, and the administration has been grappling with how to deal with the influx.

Obama has faced criticism from Republicans in Congress – who say he should enforce U.S. immigration laws, and ship the children home to stem the flow - and immigration activists, who have dubbed him the "deporter in chief" for authorizing flights for some children back to their home countries.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday some of the unaccompanied minors who have arrived in the United States from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala this year may ultimately be allowed to stay in the country, if they can qualify for asylum.

Migrants from Central America and other non-contiguous nations are granted special legal protections that allow them to plead their case to an immigration court, under a 2008 law designed to prevent human trafficking.

"If an immigration judge determines that they face a credible threat of death upon their return to their home country, then again, I'm not an immigration judge, but it is likely that the immigration judge will find that that person should be granted humanitarian relief," Earnest said.

CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Jeb Bush: Immigration is 'not a felony' but 'an act of love'

Acts of love ARE felonies if they're not consensual, and the US is NOT consenting.

    Here's your solution,
Tell those leaders, in no uncertain terms, that all those people will be returned post haste to their country of origin. There are no hardship cases for Amnesty. if those leaders refuse, cut out Foreign Aid and start transporting everyone back.

Obama and the Dems are not going to send them back. They just want the hispanic vote and heck with the American people. 3/4 of the illegals are males 14 to 17 and some are gang members and most of the children are with their mother. Don't let the Dems fool you.

Obama's mantra: "It's Time to Rebuild America ... Let's fix it." The only way you can "rebuild" anything is to tear it down and start over. Sound familiar?

For once I hope this fund-raiser-in-chief plays hard ball, and tells them send your children and we will keep money (foreign aid) YOU are to receive to provide care for them in the USA. If you can provide care, we will .

pay out the money to have these 3 countries secure their borders AND MEXICO. we send at least 400 million to mexico for "police work"-Mexico has to secure their north AND south borders or we shut off all imports and stop the money-IT WILL TAKE MEXICO ONE DAY IF WE DO THIS. We can spend milliions to get this done this way instead of us doing it for billiions. HELLO

why isn't mexico there? they are the ones enabling this invasion and making millions off of this human trafficing. obama is clueless.

the only discussion that needs to had is, stop it and stop it now and expect planes to be arriving with your illegals in the coming days. of course they are going to demand millions or billions from us as an extortion payment. i'm sure obama will be stupid enough to give them their payment, just as he has already sent them hundreds of millions of our tax dollars. the response should be not only will you not get more, all future aid will be stopped tomorrow. now get the hell out of here and enjoy the ride home with the 100 illegals we stuffed into your private jet.

It's a shame the USA has to accept troubled Central American Teenage boys, how is this going to help the USA? More promoting and streamlining immigrants from Central America, unskilled, uneducated with nothing to offer the USA but more gang members. A real win=win !! Obama is really helping to fix the broken USA !!

Again, does anyone commmenting here grasp the concept of "root-causes?" These are the consequences of corporate globalism, black-market capitalism, and bad trade policies that benefit the wrong people. Contrary to the brainwashing propaganda, this is not a recent development. Without addressing the root of the problem, which those in power have yet to do, we're nowhere.

So let’s say a bank robber is caught. Do we say, well, he needed the money for his family so we will let him go? Or say he is found out ten years later. Do we let him go because after all, it was a decade ago? Or maybe years later he got married and now has children and is found out. Does he get amnesty because now that he has children there is an emotional component? So he goes free?

And why does the Progressive believe in amnesty? Because any chance to use a group of created portrayed victims he uses to propagate his Marxism. Because using our monies to give to illegal invaders is a form of global Marxism. That’s what a traitor would do. State the law isn’t really the law. That is the anti reason a Democrat uses. You wonder why us wingnuts state that the Progressive suffers from a mental disorder? Check your talking points. You cannot even state a law needs to be enforced. And neither can a great many Republicans.

Do you really think things will just work themselves out? That the nation can allow illegal invaders amnesty over and over and everything will be fine. We tried amnesty once. Reagan, remember? Exactly what problems with the border did it solve? It increased illegal invader traffic after the first amnesty. Of course it did. Why would I obey a speed limit if nothing would happen to me if I were caught?

If you want our nation to fall like my fiction predicts keep stating law isn’t law and morality isn’t really relative like the Progressive constantly propagates with every victim group that doesn’t really exist. My only consolation is knowing that the Progressive will be dragged out of his house as well when we do finally collapse and go into complete chaos. Then the liberal will understand just like they did following the 1917 revolution in Russia as his blood pours

@Charles Hurst, no one but righties have said anything about amnesty, no one wants it. This is not 1917 Russia, not even close. Both parties have failed to come together to alleviate this problem, and so have we. Your petty ideological bias is insignifigant compared to the weight of this issue.

@Lizzie-res.Obama told E.Holder Attn.Gen. NOT to enforce e-verify or any other law that he does not like.

The President, not Obama, the current POTUS, whomever it happens to be, has to follow the amnesty hearing law passed in 2008. Right now, as he's the current person if office, it's Obama.
