Cruz: Let's repeal ‘every bloody word' of Obamacare

Washington (CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday forcefully argued that Obamacare is not here to stay and pledged that he would continue working to dismantle the health care law in 2014 and 2016.

“I think those elections should be about many, many things,” the Texas Republican said, listing jobs and growth as examples. “But they should be about repealing every bloody word of Obamacare.”

His remarks came in an address at a Washington conference hosted by the conservative group, Young America's Foundation.

Cruz was a key player in last year’s fight against the law and pushed his colleagues in Congress to try to defund Obamacare ahead of a looming spending deadline. The debate between Republicans and Democrats on the issue eventually resulted in a 16-day government shutdown.

Obamacare continued to roll out on January 1 of this year, despite some major hiccups with its website and some of its key provisions being delayed.

Cruz, who’s considering a presidential campaign, said the opposition he helped lead last year set in motion an effort that will eventually bring the law down.

“Some battles you can win with one clean rifle shot; other battles take time, take building that foundation,” he said. “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.”

A CNN/ORC International Poll released last week indicated that more than half the public believes Obamacare has helped either their families or others across the country, although less than one in five Americans say they have personally benefited from the Affordable Care Act.

Cruz stressed that he’s “working very, very hard to win Senate seats and retire Harry Reid.”

He told the audience that it’s also up to the public to express their discontent with the law.

“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.

Cruz is more delusional than the soon-to-be ex-Congresswoman Bachman.

And replace it with what? GOTPs keep promising a plan, but in four plus years.....not even an outline. Inability to govern? Much. Inability to accomplish anything? Much.

296 million Americans are insured. It would be over 300 million if not for idiots like Cruz and red state governors.

Even many of those that are required to be insured are still "under-insured." We could have single-payer like actual developed (and free-world capitalist!) countries, but that'd be SOCIALISM.

    I see
    You don't have one.
Just a lot of rhetoric while you rake in the cash.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"...it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working, he said..."

Try and take healthcare bennies from the people who are saying it most certainly IS working, go ahead...I dare ya! Try taking healthcare from the people who it's working for in your own state...go ahead, I dare ya!

    Typical Republican Pig:

"We dont want those 50 million US military vet's and teachers to be allowed to have health care."
    "Ban those 50 million".

That's how that party rolls - deny education, health and police services to poor folks to pad their own wallets.

Go back to Cuba – your daddy entered illegally anyhow.

The ACA was passed by Congress and ruled constitutional by SCOTUS. It must kill guys like Cruz to think about Chief Justice John Roberts making the "wrong" call. SCOTUS is normally as political as the other institutions of government--and yet the 5-4 vote went against the GOP on that occasion. Didn't hear much about Roberts being a RINO or a "traitor" as they still need his conservative vote for another 25-30 years.

  22. What's the next step after repealing?

What does Cruz plan to do about the millions of people signed up? Drop them all? He's been asked several times about his alternate plan but I haven't seen him spout out much other than vague ideas and the notion that what ever happens we need to repeal Obamacare first and then figure out the next step. Even Fox news gave him a hard time about it.

Cruz: “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.” Laid a goose egg is more like it. And cost the country billions of dollars in government shutdown that Cruz led.

Only 1 problem with this. It IS working, and the majority of people DO support it.

You've picked a losing battle Ted.
