Washington (CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday forcefully argued that Obamacare is not here to stay and pledged that he would continue working to dismantle the health care law in 2014 and 2016.
“I think those elections should be about many, many things,” the Texas Republican said, listing jobs and growth as examples. “But they should be about repealing every bloody word of Obamacare.”

His remarks came in an address at a Washington conference hosted by the conservative group, Young America's Foundation.
Cruz was a key player in last year’s fight against the law and pushed his colleagues in Congress to try to defund Obamacare ahead of a looming spending deadline. The debate between Republicans and Democrats on the issue eventually resulted in a 16-day government shutdown.
Obamacare continued to roll out on January 1 of this year, despite some major hiccups with its website and some of its key provisions being delayed.
Cruz, who’s considering a presidential campaign, said the opposition he helped lead last year set in motion an effort that will eventually bring the law down.
“Some battles you can win with one clean rifle shot; other battles take time, take building that foundation,” he said. “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.”
A CNN/ORC International Poll released last week indicated that more than half the public believes Obamacare has helped either their families or others across the country, although less than one in five Americans say they have personally benefited from the Affordable Care Act.
Cruz stressed that he’s “working very, very hard to win Senate seats and retire Harry Reid.”
He told the audience that it’s also up to the public to express their discontent with the law.
“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.
Wow. What an ignorant piece of trash. ACA is working. It needs to be improved, but it is better than what we had before.
Cruz has no ideas. He wants to get rid of ACA, but offers NOTHING to replace it. Before ACA, the number one reason for personal bankruptcies in the US was medical expenses. I guess he wants to go back to that since he now has medical coverage for life, being a Senator.
What a lowlife.
my insurance doubled because of Obama care ........ IT SUCKS LESS COVERAGE COST MORE
Please Texan's, vote this do nothing person out of office asap.
Thank you,
The Majority of Americans
“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.
Except that the only people who say that this thing isn't working are those who don't have access to it; those who don't want to have access to it; and those who are ideologically opposed to broadening access to health care coverage.
ron reagan jr said it best...republicans dont want obamacare to fail cause it is their plan.....the alternative to obamacare/aca is single payer or medicare for all.....plus let the republicans win in nov...if projections hold up and they do win, it doesnt mean the end of obamacare......the r's would have to win 22 seats in the senate in nov to get to 67 votes and roughly 60 seats in the house to be able to over ride a presidential veto
The Conservative alternatives to ObamaCare/ACA are outlined in The 2017 Project.
Cruz is a void surrounded by a sphincter muscle.
For profit insurance and mandatory insurance may not mix (IMO) but plenty of the aspects of the law are improvements over the previous state of health care coverage.
Not to mention there is no closing Pandora's box. The climate of the market changed shifting premiums up, a repeal would see coverages reduced, people dropped and prices not change at all producing massive paydays for the insurers.
Sorry Cruze I know your trying to position yourself to run for president. But you are not eligible for the very same reason that you claimed Obama was not eligible.
Who says "bloody"? You can tell this guy is a foreigner.
@Bigd
Cruz has already denied healthcare for his own state now he wants to take it away from 8 million more Americans
---------
Really? How many hospitals did he close?
America will have its healthcare and you crusty will not derail it, you have nothing to offer America roll up your tea party and go back to the woods.
Every law needs to have a sunset date. If it isn't voted on again with revisions, then it goes into history.
OK, So Cruz is a fool – we all know that. Next.
The nation voted twice for Obamacare. The Supreme Court has declared it law after numerous requests to repeal. Why does cruz spend all his efforts going against the will of the people?
This fellow has no place in the fabric of American society. Or in American culture. Why hasn't he been sent back to Canada yet?
He wouldn't get a single vote in Canada that's why he had to move to Texas. We love our govt. healthcare.
Go back to Canada Ted. We'll keep Justin Beiber as our punishment.
Cruz does not want healthcare for citizens awhy should that surprise anyone. He wants limited voting as well.
What has happened in this country when we can allow something like this to become a US Senator?
Tear it all down , but don't have an alternative plan ready . That's the conservative way.
So what is his plan?
To go back to for-profit, private insurance companies which raised rates year after year like crazy, cancelled policies for no apparent reason, required a one-year moratorium on pre-existing condition coverage when you changed jobs (i.e. insurance companies)-try that when your wife has cancer-and made your 21 year old kids in college buy their own policy because you couldn't cover them anymore?
Sorry, pal.
To Ted Cruz: Just try telling the millions of American who now have healthcare coverage that you are going to take it away and watch your political career come to an end!
If republicans were interested in this country's welfare they would focus on making ACA better or at least come out with a detailed plan of their own. By detailed I mean at least coupe hundred pages and not slogans "we need healthcare system that works for people and that people want produces growth and saves money". The meaningless slogans with zero substance is all GOP ever said.
As soon as you give up your free golden healthcare.... FASCIST
