Cruz: Let's repeal ‘every bloody word' of Obamacare

Washington (CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday forcefully argued that Obamacare is not here to stay and pledged that he would continue working to dismantle the health care law in 2014 and 2016.

“I think those elections should be about many, many things,” the Texas Republican said, listing jobs and growth as examples. “But they should be about repealing every bloody word of Obamacare.”

His remarks came in an address at a Washington conference hosted by the conservative group, Young America's Foundation.

Cruz was a key player in last year’s fight against the law and pushed his colleagues in Congress to try to defund Obamacare ahead of a looming spending deadline. The debate between Republicans and Democrats on the issue eventually resulted in a 16-day government shutdown.

Obamacare continued to roll out on January 1 of this year, despite some major hiccups with its website and some of its key provisions being delayed.

Cruz, who’s considering a presidential campaign, said the opposition he helped lead last year set in motion an effort that will eventually bring the law down.

“Some battles you can win with one clean rifle shot; other battles take time, take building that foundation,” he said. “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.”

A CNN/ORC International Poll released last week indicated that more than half the public believes Obamacare has helped either their families or others across the country, although less than one in five Americans say they have personally benefited from the Affordable Care Act.

Cruz stressed that he’s “working very, very hard to win Senate seats and retire Harry Reid.”

He told the audience that it’s also up to the public to express their discontent with the law.

“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.

Repeal the hated OBAMACARE law ! Better yet, simply refuse to appropriate any money to implement it and sustain it. That is the job of The House Of Representatives.

No Canada doesn't want him – they are far too sensible to take him back. He needs to go all the way back to Cuba.

Individuals like this one makes me see how selfrighteousness, narrow mindness, selfishness, hate, stupidity, arrogance is synonimous of "conservative" mentality. There are more than 36 million americans that can't afford health insurance and this neophite wants to cancel it.. I wonder if he would be willing to help cover health insurance for 100 poor children.. I do not allow my mind to hate or despise but when i see guys like this one trying to destroy something that will help others makes me wish to be on front of him and kick him in his flat behind.

How do radical, fanatical fruit cakes like Cruz keep their name in the press? Apparently by making unworkable statements that hype up the Faux News watchers and rally the tea party base of follower fruit cakes.

Confirms that the politicians are the "takers" in the "takers" and "makers" scenario. They take a salary, pension and healthcare and do nothing for the country and the public.. Cruz is an embarrassment to Texas.

Right. Dismantle Obamacare, not replace it. It's not what we wanted but it's better than anything Cruz will give us.

That is one hate-filled man. How anybody who clearly hates Americans as much as Cruz does can get elected to such power over them is beyond me.

The recent Federal ruling of Federal Exchanges being used in states where there is no state exchange will kill Obamacare lock stock and barrel. I guess Nancy Pelosi should have read it first. How can you write a bill with no escape hatch? Cruz rocks. Sorry Libs time is up for Freeloaders!

Cruz is a disgrace to the American people. Why do Republicans hate Americans? What is their plan? That's right, they don't have one.

It's interesting that he now favors abortion. He's willing to abort the lives of those children who crossed the border. Amazing that you can be on two different sides of the same issue. Wonder how that picket fence feels?

I'm glad someone in the Senate has the guts to stand up for our country (even if he is from Canada). It is unconstitutional to force a company to provide insurance for workers (unless you allow them to drop the wages to allow for such coverage– something I doubt liberals would ever do). It is also unconstitutional to force people to have health insurance. If you want it, then buy it. If you don't, then suffer the consequences when they occur. Simple logic. No son, don't touch the stove. Oh well, you won't do that again will ya. I feel like the left is the child - always wanting to do this or that (often sounds great). However, if they can't afford it, then they just try to steal it (force it down our throat). The right are the parents. They have to try to keep the kids in check so they don't break the bank (or our economy).
