Cruz: Let's repeal ‘every bloody word' of Obamacare

Washington (CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday forcefully argued that Obamacare is not here to stay and pledged that he would continue working to dismantle the health care law in 2014 and 2016.

“I think those elections should be about many, many things,” the Texas Republican said, listing jobs and growth as examples. “But they should be about repealing every bloody word of Obamacare.”

His remarks came in an address at a Washington conference hosted by the conservative group, Young America's Foundation.

Cruz was a key player in last year’s fight against the law and pushed his colleagues in Congress to try to defund Obamacare ahead of a looming spending deadline. The debate between Republicans and Democrats on the issue eventually resulted in a 16-day government shutdown.

Obamacare continued to roll out on January 1 of this year, despite some major hiccups with its website and some of its key provisions being delayed.

Cruz, who’s considering a presidential campaign, said the opposition he helped lead last year set in motion an effort that will eventually bring the law down.

“Some battles you can win with one clean rifle shot; other battles take time, take building that foundation,” he said. “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.”

A CNN/ORC International Poll released last week indicated that more than half the public believes Obamacare has helped either their families or others across the country, although less than one in five Americans say they have personally benefited from the Affordable Care Act.

Cruz stressed that he’s “working very, very hard to win Senate seats and retire Harry Reid.”

He told the audience that it’s also up to the public to express their discontent with the law.

“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.

As a Hispanic, I am embarrassed to have any ethnic connection to this vile, disgusting, attention-seeking man. I see his picture and am immediately repulsed.

Hey let's keep that socialist train wreck going and just tax the working class another 20% of their income to subsidize everyone – then bring in 11 million illegals and get them some nice free Healthcare. OK, OK so we will tax you a little more again and again and again until – you can't pay rent.

Canada would not want him. They are all about problem-solving, not strife-making.

For the Republicans its getting to be like the clown car at the circus where the clowns just keep coming out of that little car. There seems to be no end to them and their delusion that the majority of the US thinks like they do.

This is a man whose family can be seen at John Hopkins Hospital at the mere mention of their name.
Don't think of the millions of Americans who-at the very best-can afford food and medicine with the same paycheck.
How is it that we allow people like him to hold even the office of a men's room toilet cleaner?

Gotta love that Obamacare.... My cousin & my best friend both suffer from multiple sclerosis. Under Obamacare their Medicare premiums increased but MS is no longer covered.. Thanks for the dramatic decrease in their life-expectancies, Mr. Obama.

I agree with Cruz. Obamacare is a train wreck. It needs to go. The mess we have with the V.A. is a preview of the nightmare that Obamacare will be. My doctor retired (rather than have to deal with the ACA) and am having a very difficult time finding a new healthcare provider. I'm being told that their practices are full and they have no room for new patients. Cruz and others warned there would be a shortage of physicians, and they were right.

Good luck with that Cruz. Canada has Universal Health care and that's where you are from. Why don't you go back and dismantle their health care.

Did he offer up an alternative to Obamacare? Did he say what would happen to all of the people’s health insurance that signed up for the program if he and his cohorts repealed Obamacare? Did he mention how repealing the ACA would benefit the American people? Most likely the answers to my questions are no and he’s just providing more nonproductive noise to cause further division amongst Americans. But that is what he and his followers and the people he was speaking to want in America, division.

So Cruz thinks that his party has better solutions to America's problems than the Democrats? Has he in fact set forth ANYTHING other than destroying what his opponents have set up? He thinks that Reaganomics (the policies that led to the 2008 economic meltdown that nearly destroyed western civilization) is the solution to ... what? Jobs have grown consistently over the past 5 years, the stock market is at all-time highs, millions have access to health care for the first time in their lives, we are not gearing up for any wars of choice, and inflation is still low. What in all that is he going to "solve"?

It is amazing how those who have been sucking on the government's teats all their life, continuously try to prevent the average person to partake in some of those benefits. Medical benefits should be a right of every American, not just government workers and politicians.

I can sadly say....Obamacare has almost destroyed the insurance company we have used for years. Please stop reading your "talking points" and do some research. These changes are bankrupting my family.

Cruz needs to go back to Canada. Maybe he should give up his health insurance and see how it feels to having sick children and no health insurance. There are millions of people who have insurance that did not have it before and the US is better off becuase of that.

PLEASE SEND CRUZ BACK TO CANADA.

Cruz is the biggest political opportunist since Michele Bachmann, and as big a liar. The party should shun him in favor of more reasonable Republicans who are genuine conservatives.

He sure is hot to take away everyone's Health Insurance but his own. Look up the subsidies his wife gets at goldman sachs. A nice policy subsidized with our tax dollars. He is a puzzle.
