Washington (CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday forcefully argued that Obamacare is not here to stay and pledged that he would continue working to dismantle the health care law in 2014 and 2016.
“I think those elections should be about many, many things,” the Texas Republican said, listing jobs and growth as examples. “But they should be about repealing every bloody word of Obamacare.”

His remarks came in an address at a Washington conference hosted by the conservative group, Young America's Foundation.
Cruz was a key player in last year’s fight against the law and pushed his colleagues in Congress to try to defund Obamacare ahead of a looming spending deadline. The debate between Republicans and Democrats on the issue eventually resulted in a 16-day government shutdown.
Obamacare continued to roll out on January 1 of this year, despite some major hiccups with its website and some of its key provisions being delayed.
Cruz, who’s considering a presidential campaign, said the opposition he helped lead last year set in motion an effort that will eventually bring the law down.
“Some battles you can win with one clean rifle shot; other battles take time, take building that foundation,” he said. “I’m convinced that fight has laid the foundation.”
A CNN/ORC International Poll released last week indicated that more than half the public believes Obamacare has helped either their families or others across the country, although less than one in five Americans say they have personally benefited from the Affordable Care Act.
Cruz stressed that he’s “working very, very hard to win Senate seats and retire Harry Reid.”
He told the audience that it’s also up to the public to express their discontent with the law.
“If we’re going to repeal Obamacare and I’m convinced we’re going to…it’s going to come from the people saying ‘this thing isn’t working’,” he said.
Because 50 attempts apparently isn't enough. Plus he'd REALLY like millions to have no healthcare again.
And take away health insurance from $30 million people.
Cruz should return to Canada and run against Rob Ford in the Toronto mayoral race. It would be a toss-up as to who would win.
Hi I am up here in Canada. First, He renounced his Canadian citizenship. Second, We don't want him back, he is all yours. The Beibs too. You lost the hockey game. Seriously, I cannot get over just how much tea party types just don't care about people. Their only mission seems to be big business and rape the earth leaving nothing for the future. I cannot see any compassion in these people. Yes there are trade offs with universal health care, but no one goes bankrupt because of medical bills. The wait lists you hear about are usually for non life threatening care. I have always had very good care. Also, people who say it is free are lying to you. It is taxpayer driven. British Columbia and Alberta (Ted's former birth place) do pay premiums. Keep in mind people like him want to end FEMA, FDA, CPA, Medicare, Medicaid and social security. If I were you I would paying attention very closely.
I think he should run in 2016 and he should choose Palin as his VP. Then I can have what I think are two of the biggest low lifes in politics on the same ticket!
Before the Affordable Care Act, I was unable to get insurance because of a pre-existing condition which 80% of men my age had. Now I can get medical care and keep myself healthy because of the benefits ACA provides- I pay premiums too. N Not subsidized. I suggest that we remove every word of the law that gives CRUZ medical benefits and a salary and pension that hardly any of us can get. Let him spend his time showing he cares less about himself than the People of the US
What a fool but maybe that is a good thing. More like him in the republican party will help the democrats win the next election.
What this man is doing is very dangerous to our Democracy! People like him, Palin, McCain, Graham, Boehner, McConnell, to name only a few, are purposely promoting anger and violence. They talk about impeaching our President. The hypocrisy is shameful and destroying how our Country is viewed by the rest of the World. It's hateful, criminal and must be stopped.
Stick to Texas politics. They love you and deserve you.
Canada sure sprouts some doozies. I wonder if he smokes the same stuff as Toronto's Mayor? We need to drop kick this self important, narcissistic nimcompoop back across the border where he belongs!
a good rule for grownups is that you can't just say "i don't like it." you need to say "i don't like it" and then offer a viable alternative. someone should tell the GOTP that this is how the intelligent world works.
What is he, British now?
About to lose my health insurance through work, and so have been shopping the exchange: Guess what? I will be getting better coverage at a better price that what I currently have! I am so glad we have Obamacare.
may as well waste more of the taxpayers money...if only our elected members could get their act together and work on solving the problems instead of cutting each other down, then MAYBE, just maybe, things could get accomplished...just wish i could waste money like some of these people do....
We are thankful he renounced his Canadian citizenship.
Our conservative Prime Minister would look like a left winger when compared with Ted and his ilks.
I am from Texas, but Ted Cruz makes me sick. Only a Republican thinks it is Christian to cause less people to have health care. It goes along with some of the racist hate being spewed about children coming over the border.
Anyone saying this stuff and claiming to be Christian is ignorant or evil.
Sorry guys Canada is happy with their version of Obamacare........you are all stuck with this dolt. Canada don't want him back. His passport is cancelled already.
Why would I want people to be denied health care? Do his parents have Medicare? I have children that work very hard and have to provide themselves with medical insurance. My daughter can now afford it because of "Obama Care".
It is truly sad that Ted Kennedy is no longer alive. This was his dream and Hilary Clinton's.
I have family that live in Texas. A pick up and shot gun makes a man.
Just as soon as we deport you back to Canada, Rafael Eduardo.
If the Tea Party / GOP hate the Affordable Care Act so much (mostly because it has Obama's name on it) then I think we should just scrap it and replace it with a system we already have that we know can provide good healthcare and reduce cost. Its called MEDICARE and we could make it available to EVERYONE as a Single-Payer National Health System paid for the same way we do our Military – with our Taxes.
His approach doesn't warrant a response for intelligent folks.. it's designed to fire up the faithful in an election year. The dumbing down of the Republican voter base continues unabashed!
So people who had insurance but had to switch to 'bamacare now will have to switch again, and the people who lost their jobs because corporation's dumped them instead of having to insure them are still out because Cruzcare will screw everyone else.
Stay tuned to Cripes Not Now for the latest inflammation.
Who goes and starts a fight and then runs off to let others do the fighting for them? Cruz does! The people who elected this sneaky, scheming coward should be ashamed of themselves.
Ted Cruz isn't dumb. In fact he's very smart. So what motivates him? He knows the "single payer system" in Canada works pretty well since he lived there. He also knows that "Romneycare" in Massachusetts works well. I believe he just wants "Power" and has chosen a path of arousing the right wing, especially the ignorant, biased right wing, to bring down the established Republican leadership so he can become the leader of a Republican Senate and replace Harry Reid whom he hates so much. It is a planned strategy to gain power for himself. I compare him to Putin as a current example of a person who wants power and will take any course available to get that power. I bet that if Cruz thought a radical liberal path would work better, he'd take it and be left of Elizabeth Warren.
Cruz hasn't bothered to come up with a plan to help those of us that needed the ACA in order to get insurance. I love my insurance, it is reasonably priced and for the first time in my life I am paying the same amount that folks in a group policy are paying. The insurance companies ripped me off for forty years because I am self employed.
