CIA interrogation report could be released publicly next week
Washington (CNN) - A Senate Intelligence Committee report detailing the CIA’s controversial interrogation and detention program following the 9/11 terror attacks could be released to the public as soon as next week, congressional sources in each party said Wednesday.
The document that will be released is a nearly 700 page summary of the full 6,800 page report that was approved a year and a half ago by a committee sharply divided along party lines.
Oops. Senate makes $2 billion error
Washington (CNN) – Senators trying to mount a head-on battle with the House over highway funding may have doomed their own bill with a $2 billion mistake.
“We are working to address this technical error,” wrote Tara DiJulio, spokeswoman for Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, who cosponsored the legislation along with two Democrats.
Obama administration expands push against voter laws
Washington (CNN) –– The Obama administration is expanding its push to stop what it calls "restrictive state laws" over the ability of voters to cast ballots.
The Justice Department said it was filing legal briefs in support of separate, private lawsuits against Wisconsin and Ohio.
Climate group attacks Ernst on tax pledge, not climate

(CNN) - NextGen Climate, a Super PAC backed by liberal billionaire Tom Steyer, is dedicated to "act politically to avert climate disaster and preserve American prosperity."
But its latest attack ad is all about taxes.
The group says the television commercial, which was released Wednesday, will air in three major media markets across Iowa. But the spot never once mentions climate change or the environment. Instead the ad focuses on the Americans for Tax Reform's "no new taxes" pledge Iowa GOP Senate nominee Joni Ernst signed.
Dodging 2016 questions, Paul Ryan meets the press
Washington (CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, chairman of the House Budget Committee, is known to glide through the hallways of Capitol Hill with headphones in his ears. It's a tactic he employs to avoid pesky reporters. But the Republican faced down a flurry of questions on Wednesday at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast with journalists.
The potential White House contender offered up his views on a range of topics, like climate change, immigration reform, and his newly-released plan to overhaul federal poverty programs.

And now, it appears, the former tax official at the center of the controversy, was none too fond of a particular brand of conservatives, either.
Top House Democrat: 'You bet we're going to run' on impeachment
Washington (CNN) - Congressional Democrats say they're the gifts that keep on giving.
Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Wednesday that conservative calls to impeach President Barack Obama and the House GOP's push to sue the President are motivating the Democratic base in advance of November's midterm elections.
Democrats, Republicans argue over Obama lawsuit
Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives is expected to move one step closer to suing President Barack Obama on Wednesday when it approves a resolution authorizing House Speaker John Boehner to file a lawsuit.
Republicans argue the President's executive actions to change Obamacare and make other policy decisions on his own were unconstitutional because it's Congress' jobs to make or change laws. But Democrats quickly moved to turn the debate against Republicans, saying their real desire is to impeach the President.
Obama lambasts Republicans for ‘hatin’ all the time’

Kansas City, Missouri (CNN) – Days before Congress' summer break begins, President Barack Obama used a Wednesday morning speech here to lambast Republicans who are preparing to sue him rather than take action on some of his agenda items.
“Stop being mad all the time,” Obama chided Republicans during rowdy, campaign-style remarks. “Stop just hatin’ all the time.”

Housing illegal migrant children pits governor against mayor
Washington (CNN) – As Congress debates whether to pass a bill to help deal with the influx of unaccompanied Central American minors crossing the U.S.-Mexican border, government leaders throughout the country continue to debate how to handle and where to house the children.
One place that battle is playing out is in Georgia.
Republican Gov. Nathan Deal wrote to President Barack Obama last week asking for the federal government to stem the flow of the children to the state saying it was “unconscionable that your administration” failed to inform state officials that 1,154 of the kids had been sent there.
