McCain dismisses claim that he has it in for Obama

Washington (CNN) - U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, is no stranger to the Sunday morning political talk show circuit, and viewers have apparently taken notice.

On Sunday, he appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” from Jakarta, Indonesia, primarily to discuss the U.S. airstrikes on Iraq and President Obama’s foreign policy. However, during the interview, CNN’s Candy Crowley asked him about the frequency of his Sunday show appearances and his regular criticism of Obama.

“Senator McCain, lots of people, when we have you on, often say: ‘Why do you have him on so often?’ And we say because he answers our questions, because he expresses his views quite clearly,” Crowley said. “And very often, what we get back - and I think you get it on Twitter, too - is, ‘That's just John McCain. There isn't a thing this President could do that John McCain would approve of when it comes to foreign policy.’ Your reply?”

“There are a number of things that the President has done foreign policy-wise that I have not only approved of, but supported,” McCain said. He pointed to his support of Obama’s trade agreements, efforts in Asia and opposition to sequestration.

But he also insisted that since Obama became president, the geopolitical landscape has become worse.

“If I look at the world in January of 2009, and I look at the world today, I can tell you this, Candy. It's very, very different,” McCain said. “And I believe that's because, when the United States of America withdraws from leadership from the world, it creates a vacuum, and bad things happen.”

If the Iraqi government is unable to defend itself and maintain some semblance of stability - even after so many years of depending upon the "training wheels" of a substantive U.S. military presence, then what did McCain and his pro-incursion cohort expect us to do?
Leave hundreds of thousands of our troops - including reservists - in Iraq indefinitely?

John McCain is simply a narsisist. Wishing for a Dystopian society of which HE is supreme ruler of. If laws and rules were not emplaced in our country to prevent that. He would ALREADY be there as the one demanding everyone say HEIL MCCAIN THE LEADER..! And the reason he is so bitter is because he CANT circumvent the laws in place to REMOVE any way of getting rid of him..

    Hey, Johnnie Boy.
We are not, and should not be, the peacekeepers of the world. We have to mind our own business once in awhile and just let some of these countries figure it out for themselves. We have enough problems without assuming responsibility for the rest of the world.

McCain should have retired a long time ago. At least McCain beat Romney in 2008, before both of them were washed-up. McCain and Romney are still better than anyone in the Republican Party who wants to run for president in 2016.

If John McCain would withdraw from Sunday morning talk shows it would create a vacuum and good things would happen – we wouldn't have to listen to his incessant bashing of President Obama.

I don't think John McCain realizes this, but no amount of fighting, no amount of soldiers fighting in every country in the middle east, is going to stop those people from fighting each other. They are going to keep fighting, whether our soldiers are dying over there, or not. They always have and they always will be fighting, to the last man standing.

I see that McCain wants Obama to lead a republican do nothing congress, but I also see that he cannot lead a republican do nothing congress. It is easy to point a finger especially when it could as easily pointed back. A good defense is an offense?

1st, he can dismiss the claim that he & his party 'has it in for Obama' all he wants, but the record shows that the GOTP has had it in for the president since he won in '08'! I came to this country in 1971 (legally & I don't vote...yet) & have never experienced a more hateful environment for a president to navigate through! 2nd, we are tired of all our resources going to 'war efforts' & our young people are 1st on that list! We are just 1 nation, why are we the 'designated' peace keepers, policy makers & enforcers for the world? Who signed us up for that & who keeps perpetuating this myth? If some derelict cell makes trouble in a sovereign country, why is the responsibility ours? Obama seems to be working w/ the rest of the world, in a peaceful, diplomatic manner, rather than unilaterally strike any chance he gets or based on false or no intel! Of course, McCain, war monger that he is, which is ironic, wants what a lot of the GOTP wants! War & it's spoils! Just like W's Iraq venture!!
