Steve King: Ferguson protesters of same 'continental origin'

(CNN) - Rep. Steve King dismissed suggestions that racial profiling has played a role in clashes between police and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, after the shooting of an unarmed teen.

In an interview on Wednesday with the conservative network Newsmax TV, the conservative Republican congressman suggested, based on video he's seen of demonstrations in the St. Louis suburb, that racial profiling isn't a factor because all of the protesters are of the same "continental origin."

"This idea of no racial profiling, I've seen the video and it looks to me like you don't need to bother with that particular factor because they all appear to be of a single origin, I should say, continental origin, might be the way to phrase that," he said in response to a question regarding calls from the Congressional Black Caucus for a Justice Department investigation into police conduct toward the protesters.

"I just reject race-based politics, identity politics," King said. "We're all God's children. We all should be held to the same standards and the same level of behavior."

King has generated controversy previously for controversial comments on other issues, like immigration.

CNN sought a comment from his office, but hasn’t received a response.

I swear Rep. King must be the Grand Dragon himself. Can we take a look inside his closet to see if we find any sheets with holes in them?

King was one of the original Birthers. His resume now includes bigot along with being a bagger. I swear the empty space between his two ears is as big as 4 cantaloupes. Brain dead republican welfare abuser is all he is, and ever will be.

And ironically, majority of the police force is from a particular "continental origin." See the problem moron?

Fortunately for King, he comes from a part of Iowa where you set your watch back 75 years when you go there.

This man is being clever. He's waving a shiny object to attract your attention. The marches, looting, and rioting have nothing to do with racial profiling. The racial profiling took place Saturday afternoon, and it could be why the young man was shot in the first place.

67% of the residents are from one side of continental Missouri, and 94% of the police are from the other side of continental Missouri? King is brain dead.

No he doesn't and apparently neither do the Usual Suspects on this thread, and that's what the problem is and what's dividing America.

Again: I encourage everyone to send as many cantaloupes as you can afford to Mr. King's office.

"isn't that what sniffin just said about the cops?"

I said no such thing, jackhole. I cited a mathematical fact without reference to "continental origin."

The officer should be liable for his crime. Looting and hurting others with crime isn't justification for another crime.

Black people commit 90% of all murders and 70% of all theft for only 14% of the population. They need to get themselves under control with some better values. White people killed 9% of all black people that were murdered. 91% of the black people murdered was by their own black on black crime. Black people kill 16% of all white people murdered. So a lot more white people are killed by black than the other way around for sure. Especially for them only being 14% of the population. If the profile fits the profile fits. Justify that.

CHANGE IT. Then maybe cops and others would see a people representative of good more than bad. You can be somebody. Make a difference.

So true. They'd rather portray the VICTIM as the guilty party. I was glad to look at my FB page today and see my friends posting pictures of Michael Brown in his cap & gown graduating from high school rather than the pictures the media uses to depict someone in a negative light.

Rep. King, probably all of the people you saw in the video were born here. If you want to talk about ancestors, your ancestors came from a different continent too.
