Christie on Ferguson: Not going to generalize ‘against law enforcement officers’

(CNN) – Asked if there was a general problem in the United States with the way police deal with young African-American men, Gov. Chris Christie argued people shouldn’t be quick “to make generalizations.”

“Whatever happened in Ferguson, we have a justice system in this country that will be able to make that judgment, and if there are people who need to be held accountable, I'm confident they will be,” the New Jersey Republican said in a response to a question by WNYC’s Matt Katz.

“But I'm not going to get into this business of generalizing against law enforcement officers. It's not right,” he continued.

His comments Friday came one day after Sen. Rand Paul, another potential presidential candidate, said the police response to the racially-charged street protests in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer was an example of how law enforcement has become too militarized.

In an opinion piece for Time, the Kentucky Republican wrote that there “should be a difference between a police response and a military response."

While Paul labeled racial tension a crucial element to the recent unrest, Christie, a former U.S. attorney, did not go that far.

“I think it's very dangerous to make generalizations about anybody like that,” Christie said, referring to the reporter’s question about the relationship between police and African Americans. The governor made his comments in a press conference in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

“We have millions of dedicated men and women who are police officers across this country, who work in grave danger every day, who try to make sure they protect innocent people across the country,” he continued. “So I'm not going to get into this game of generalizing and characterizing people in that way. Everyone should be judged on their merits.”

LOL! Straight out of the Faux bubble….and they’re doing it to try to re-invigorate and tap into the lingering the RWNJ Teatroll poutrage over the 2008 incident with a couple black panthers standing in front of a polling center. The math is simple:

    ----

Didn't that incident include those individuals threatening and intimidating voters?

Would you demonstrate in Chicago, Oakland, DC and every other urban city with high crime rates ? Especially, the black on black crimes and murders? Can you speak loud and proud on the cause of justice for those families who have lost loved ones?

Or, do you support the domestic terrorist group black panthers, thug united front to undermine the law with their thug approach? Are you in favor of lawlessness? Would you rather give into the animalistic behavior of these thugs and let them continue to rule the streets and encourage violence?

    Which side are you on?

The laws or the criminals? Easy question. Can't ride the fence post.

Sorry, bud. It isn't that simple, and reducing an issue with this complexity to yes or no is utterly meaningless.

Oh yes just asking, we all owe YOU an apology. Are YOUR feelings hurt?

So, as it turns out Mr. Brown was apparently not shot in the back, but the unarmed Mr. Brown WAS shot **SIX** times. Perhaps we owe you an apology for that too????!!!.....you know wasting all those bullets at the taxpayer's expense.

    What an unrepentant Teatard.

A sub-current to all this that makes very little sense however is the notion that somehow our police are too-armed, or have too many weapons or are "militarized".
Has anyone considered that since the NRA has flip-flopped on military grade hardware in our nation, and supports the "rights" of everyone to be armed to the teeth (including criminals, the insane and even the blind), that our LEOs have no choice? Our police and law enforcement as a whole cannot be outgunned by the public- to have it be otherwise is both insane- and likely a full-on assault to the public's order and safety.
The implication is clear- the NRA and the 2nd Amendment are essentially unfunded mandates for which we all pay- and perhaps we need to consider that.
    ---
Do a Google search of the "North Hollywood Bank Robbery" in 1997. That was the catalyst for increasing the firepower that is issued to law enforcement personnel. Also notice that this incident occurred in a state with some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation (California).
    _______________
Quite so. Meanwhile, realize that cops face idiotic civilians parading around supermakets with their AR-15s. I recently saw an add for a 100-round drum for most automatic (ooops, sorry, "semiautomatic") weapons available- Really? does anyone thing a civilian needs that? And, as the NRA will not allow any discussion on mental health, background checks or anything else, that means the SUPPORT their industry being able to arm criminals and lunatics through any variety of ways. Yes, the North Hollywood bank robbery was a watershed- and every LEO I know worries about that scenario- and the Bundy ranch one too.

I did watch Fox News for part of last Friday evening. O'Reilly was on vacation, so he was replaced by "The Five", but he still phoned in to make a special rant. This is when the misinformation really began. What they were saying was completely contradicting what was rolling across the bottom of the screen on the news ticker.

Bill recited the events of the day in Ferguson. Bill asked the rhetorical question to the panel about whether or not they knew why the officer had stopped the young man, as if no one knew the answer. Meanwhile, the ticker on the screen was quoting the police chief saying the robbery was "unrelated" and that the officer had stopped the two young men for "walking in the middle of the street."

During the Obama Bash segment, the panelists were blasting the president for not attacking ISIS from the air, insisting that the we should be sending in drones and bombers. Of course, you know it, the news ticker across the bottom of the screen was describing the success of the bombing runs on ISIS vehicles and positions just a few hours ago.

It was absolutely amazing to watch. You just cannot make this stuff up, folks. The folks on the show are saying one thing, while the news ticker at the bottom of the screen is saying something else. After a while, somebody must have caught on to the hypocrisy because those stories stopped being "tickered" across the screen for the rest of the hour.

No it didn't. That was the fairytale CLAIM, put out by the Teatard media Lords who you like to worship. But the investigation did not turn up ANY such thing. The only crime they committed was "standing around while black".

My goodness, didn't you get the full follow-up story on FoxNews? NO?? Surprising.........................................NOT!!!!!

America is a country of laws.

Since when do criminals and thugs running wild in the streets of Missouri get to tell anyone what they will or will not do.

Time to lock up everyone, fill the jails, with those who have chosen a life of crime.

These are not peaceful demonstrators, these are out of control thugs.

Pretty easy. When your son/daughter gets shot 6 times (including an apparent fatal shot through the brain) while committing no crime, and while unarmed, we'll get to see your "thuggish side" too, I imagine. If the authorities in Ferguson wish to return peace, they really need to get to the bottom of the causal issue. Meanwhile- yes, those breaking the law need to be stopped. But merely being a Black teenager in America cannot ever be seen as an execution order by you, the police or anybody.

"Didn't that incident include those individuals threatening and intimidating voters?"

Haha...you're so predictable. No, no threats were made whatsoever, at all, none, zip, zero, zilch, etc. In fact, people who were interviewed about it said they didn't feel threatened or intimidated by them at all and that they even opened the door and held it for them. They got themselves in trouble and some probation (I think one even got a suspended sentence) because it was considered intimidating for them to be there and for one of them to have a billy club. YOU added the "threatening" part in order to make it sound more like they were actively making threats. They weren't.

    it must be said

A smart, intelligent response from a smart, capable person. I sure wish we had somebody this smart in the White House and as Governor of Missouri. This is why the Democrats are so afraid of Christie running, he's not one that easily baited with these types of questions.
    --------------------------------–
Let's not forget the conservatives on the police force that allowed the atmosphere to fester, appeared to be willfully looking the other way after the incident, conducted press conferences that raised more questions than answers, and worked at odds with the state highway patrol captain assigned to bring law and order to the town. Let's not forget that without the conservatives, then this problem never would have come about.

And BTW, tom, there have already been studies of just how often Faux goes on rampages about the black panthers, how often they mentioned and for how long they fixated on that particular incidenrt after 2008 in order to keep the white fright race resentment stoked, and how many times they've blabbered about and voiced assumptions and conspiracy theories about Ferguson's outrage being all the product of the black panthers infiltrating the town to cause riots, etc. They are completely and utterly ridiculous and it's ALL designed to stoke white fright race resentment.

  13. Justice for All?

Justice? Can you even spell that word?

Chicago type thugs are running the show in Missouri.

The Rev Al Sharp Pencil and his notorious Black Panther mobsters who scar little old white people in Philadelphia during the 2008 and 2012 elections have more to do with the crimes that go unpunished than anyone.

Why don't they help young black men to be responsible, educated, and not to commit crimes?

Was Brown acting as a thug in the convenient store that day or as a "gentle giant" and "good young man waiting to start college?" Video doesn't lie, witnesses do.

This does not excuse the officer in question on how he reacted to the group of men (not boys) walking down the middle of the street and disobeying the law. Side walks people, use them.

If a black officer had been involved, what would be CNN or MSNBC reaction? What would have been your reaction?

Will you stand up for justice or vengeance?

    Who are you anyway, "Batman?"

@Rudy- The point is maybe instead of taking some of these eyewitnesses word as the solid truth maybe its time to let the real facts come out. I`ll say it again for the third time today the autopsy from Dr. Badan proved that some of the eyewitnesses version of the events were incorrect.

Seriously...DOJ gave them both slaps on the wrist and that only because one of them was stupid enough to be standing there with a billy club.

And yet, the GOP/Teatrolls and their NRA masters would tell you straight to your face...without even the slightest hint of recognizing their hypocrisy...that white rednecks standing around at a polling center with their open-carry AR-15s isn't at all threatening to black people who come to vote.

    "O'Reilly was on vacation"

Ah yes, but he was certainly in enough of a white fright race resentment poutrage to call in to one of the Faux agitprop race resentment indoctrination specials to rant and rave incoherently about what's happening in Ferguson being nothing more than the product of "race baiters" and the black panthers etc.

At what point do they just come out and say that Brown "baited" the cop into shooting him 6-8 times? Or hey, why don't they just admit that they consider it "baiting" the cops whenever one of "them" isn't properly leashed and respectfully responsive to the word "boy"?

Being black alone should be crime enough in the fearful world of the right wing scaredy cats... where terrists need to be met with duct tape and plastic sheeting and unarmed black teens need to be gunned down immediately before they do something like eat skittles or get home safely.
Only if you are white do you deserve to defend yourself against the cops... and then you can brandish guns against the Officers who have came to serve a warrant for your arrest on welfare fraud and the rwnj's will cheer you and defend you and cry big crocodile tears for you...

what a total maroon you are. your apologies need to go to the people that you all wrongly accused and slandered, namely the ferguson police dept. and specifically the officer you all slandered with your misinformation.

and being shot six times means nothing when the person is 6' 4" and nearly 300 lbs. 4 of the shots were to an arm, not vital organs that would bring a person down. and some idiot commented about why wasn't there blood in the police car. the simple explanation is that he possibly wasn't hit with that shot. not sure the total number of shots has been disclosed yet. and if brown was shot with his hands up, that cop must be a darn good shot to be able to hit it 4 times while it is in the air.

again, maybe people just need to wait until all, repeat all, the information is released instead of holding your high tech lynchings on the streets and in here.

Committing no crime? Well, if he assaulted a police officer and refused to stop then he was indeed committing a crime. And a 6'4", 300 lb. man is always armed with his physical strength. Do you expect police to start using karate to take people down? You saw the way he treated that store owner. He physically intimidated him and I doubt that was the first time he had done it. Get real. This guy was no choir boy so please enough with the 'he was little angel child just out for a walk and was gunned down in the street" baloney.
