Obama on hiatus from vacation with Iraq, Ferguson on his agenda

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama returned to the White House late Sunday night, taking the unusual step of interrupting his Martha's Vineyard vacation for two days.

The short visit was announced on August 6, the day before Obama authorized targeted airstrikes in Iraq aimed at protecting U.S. personnel and preventing a potential genocide of minorities by terrorist group ISIS.

U.S. military action in Iraq is just one of the issues the White House is monitoring while the President takes his vacation. Over the past week, in between golfing with friends, visits to the beach and jazz concerts, advisers also kept Obama apprised of violent protests in Ferguson, Missouri, over the shooting of Michael Brown.

Obama will have meetings on both issues on Monday. After his daily briefing in the morning, the President will convene the National Security Council to receive an update on the situation in Iraq. Recent reports suggest Kurdish fighters, with help from U.S. warplanes, may soon score an important victory over ISIS by wresting back control of the Mosul Dam.

Later in the day the President will meet with Attorney General Eric Holder for updates on the situation in Ferguson. The Department of Justice has taken an active role in investigating whether police violated Brown's civil rights and announced over the weekend that a federal medical examiner will conduct a third autopsy. This follows the initial state autopsy as well as an independent one at the request of Brown's family.

Holder and senior adviser Valerie Jarett have taken the lead on the situation in Ferguson, giving the President regular briefings and communicating with local and state leaders and civil rights groups on the ground.

A private lunch with Vice President Joe Biden, just returned from a vacation in the Hamptons, is also on the schedule.

The White House is expected to make an announcement about immigration in the coming month. With Congress unable to come up with a plan that could pass both chambers, Obama has said he's not going to wait for congressional action on the issue. He places the blame squarely on Republicans' failure to negotiate legislation that will improve the situation along the southern border, where thousands of unaccompanied children have flooded toward the United States this year from Central America.

As for Tuesday, the President's schedule is unknown except that he will leave a humid D.C. (with a chance of rain) for the sunny skies of the Vineyard at some point.

    Well,
If the Congress won't make a change in the immigration laws it is because the people will not approve any changes to the law. It appears only the illegals want to become citizens without going thru the process the law provides now.All the hordes coming across the border now from central america need to be put on transports and sent back, now. It appears this administration is nOT going to deport any of these illegals but are going to foist them on the U.S. Taxpayer. Deport them, now.

Ferguson has a problem on the law enforcement side. While the local police may have been removed from the duties of keeping security, the local law enforcement is still in charge of the investigation.....and the two sides seem to have an internal communication problem. The security team doesn't know what the investigative team is doing.

When the police chief released the photos and videos, it would seem that, Capt. Johnson was not present, and was unaware of the information being released. When the Chief later released the video and stated that it was unrelated to the Brown shooting, it made people rightfully ask why was it released. By the time that the Chief came back an hour later to revise his statements to say that the officer say the cigars and made a connection, the chief had lost all credibility

A good step was taken when they put the Ferguson Police Chief on administrative leave, but it didn't cure the communication problem that only seem to be getting worse. The "preliminary" autopsy results are not pretty. A total of six shots to the body, with at least two to the head, one in the top of the head. I've heard a report that the whereabouts of the clothing is unknown. All of it only makes me dread the final autopsy report, which would no doubt include toxicology reports.

Why don't they just go ahead do the one thing that is likely to quell some of the emotions? Arrest the officer. Done. It's what the protestors have been wanting all along. Instead, we have seen actions by the locals that appear to the community to be a cover up in progress.

After president Obama lost the war in Iraq we had won; of course U.S. combat troops will be back Iraq to fix what the president screwed up; way to go – always wrong Obama.
    -----------------------------------
Pres. Bush was wrong when he declared "mission accomplished", that the war had been won. Finger pointing conservatives like to forget about that, just like they want to forget Bush had felt the war was won when he signed a SOFA agreement to withdraw all combat troops from Iraq in 2008. Your words suggest Bush was wrong both times.

With all the help & loyal opposition he gets from Repubs., his job doesn't look too hard.
Heck, I remember in Aug. 2001, three weeks before the REAL 9-11 Attack, George W. was sitting on the porch at the Crawford Ranch, with cowboy boots crossed, breezing through a Presidential Daily Briefing entitled,"Bin Laden Intends to Attack Inside USA", & even mentioned using hijacked commercial planes to crash into buildings. He didn't seem too stressed.

I completely understand protesting. I do. But I'm getting ticked off. What's the purpose of looting besides to steal? The people looting are giving the protestors a bad name. Face it, there are many in this country that think the worst of all of us. They consider any male over age 4 a thug and a future gang banger. Must we give them more ammo? And to those saying Michael stole cigars. So what? Is that a death penalty offense? As for his pictures, I have pictures doing the same thing with my fingers and I'm no banger. It's free speech and freedom of expression. In my case it was joking with my ex who was taking the picture. Don't be so quick to condemn a dead child. Once again I go back to that case in MO where the two teens were killed while actually committing a crime. Their killer, who was defending his home, is in prison right now. The difference is, those teens don't look like Michael or TM. I don't expect any justuce for Michael, I do expect his name to be drug through the mud exactly like TM's was. And his killer will walk.

Ah, yes, the fantasy world you live in. Sorry "Gundy-of-the-faux-accent" but the American public does want a change in immigration law- and the Senate (which has Republicans voted for it). To bad the radicals in the anti-American TEA Party are so wedded to trying to make Mr. Obama a one-term President to figure that out. Mr. Bush's 2008 law really needs fixing according to the American public. They won't touch that one either. Maybe they secretly want all those kids here, eh?
Meanwhile, the least productive Congress (House and Senate) in American History, ignores laws on Gun violence, pollution, budgeting, bank regulation, taxation and more. Still no jobs bills (which fortunately seems to restrain the damage of their "policies" to mostly red states), not to mention failing to approve the appointment of ambassadors and agency heads and judges simply seem to want to break government- patriotic isn't it, and great leadership too? NOT!
    Republicans- the anti-American party!

Yeah, I did say that. I'm not aware of any information regarding location of bullet wounds besides the reported two shots to the head. Journalists did not file a FOI Act lawsuit. They had been requesting information about a robbery because of rumors that had been circulating. You're the first to mention a lawsuit, smith.

Witnesses testified as to what they believe that they saw happen. It's possible that one or more may have embellished the accounts, but nothing changes the fact that the few concrete facts that we know simply do not line up with the account that the police have given. If the incident took place in, or near to, the police vehicle, then how did Brown wind up a good ten paces away from the vehicle.....and now we learn he had two bullets in his head.

the local police keep acting like they are hiding something. Why would the young man's clothes suddenly go missing? Gun powder on the clothing would refute or confirm whether or not he was shot a close range, within arm's reach. Remember, the police say that there was a struggle for the weapon, which somehow resulted in six shots being fired.

Don't cry for Obama having to cut short his vacation. Millions of unemployed Americans haven't had a vacation in years.

Maybe the black part of Barry is preventing him from helping the white part of his gene pool understand that militants in Missouri cannot be above the law. Calm them down, no, arrest them! It's still a crime to steal. That will not bring back Brown.

    Good sarcasm!
Reality was that the Republicans felt that Mr. Clinton had an unhealthy obsession with bin Laden and al Qaeda, and thusly ignored him, focusing instead on their propaganda that the Clinton staff pried all of the "W" keys off of their PC keyboards and made that news instead.
It will be a long time till the Republicans can put an administration as bad as Mr. Bush's together- if ever again.

Thanks, for pointing that out to smith. If smith were correct about the lawsuit, then police should have released ALL of the information, including the two police reports referenced in the report concerning the alleged robbery. They didn't because there no lawsuit had been filed. That story is completely made up.

Like I said, the accounts given by witnesses fit the known facts far better than the version given by police.
