Paul Ryan gleefully dumps ice water on Mitt Romney

(CNN) - "It is cold."

That's what Mitt Romney said, letting out a slight chuckle after his former running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, dumped a bucket of ice water on his head.

Dressed in a full suit, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee was the latest politician to take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a social media campaign that aims to raise money and awareness to fight amyotropic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Romney, in a video posted Friday morning, said he was challenged by Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Creighton Rider of Salt Lake City, who Romney said has been diagnosed with ALS.

In turn, Romney challenged his "sweetheart" wife, Ann, and actor Jason Sudeikis, who played Romney on "Saturday Night Live" during the 2012 campaign.

Romney expressed thanks to Pete Frates, a former baseball player at Boston College who's been living with ALS since 2012 and who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge campaign.

The former Massachusetts governor said he’s also making a donation to an ALS charity.

Ryan and Romney were in Chicago Thursday to help promote Ryan's new book, "The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea.”

CNN’s Steve Brusk contributed to this report.

You guys are hilarious to say that the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for ALS became so lame three weeks ago, as if its some highschool stunt that the popular kids do like planking or something. Your derision of Mitt in this completely non-political good cause event just shows your blind stubborn partisanship.

True, Republicans care about WAR, because they make money out of Haliburton, kill people, send poor to war.

  4. Phony Philanthropy

I believe in giving money to good causes and helpiing those that are less fortunate. However, i aee a lot of phony philanthropy that does little to benefit causes. If you really want to help just make a donation instead of trying to make a big splash.

How about Mittens stop taking every sleazy tax break that comes down the pike?

    – What wealthy Democrat does not take advantage of all available tax breaks

This ice bucket challenge is stupid. I don't see many videos informing people about ALS, what it does to people, why they need money, etc, etc. It's about putting a video of yourself on Facebook or Youtube. Now if people start writing a check and challenging their friends publicly to donate (to any cause) I'd be much more impressed. Bunch of lemmings.

Personally I think these Ice bucket challenges are hysterical....I loved seeing Bush getting all wet and that his wife Laura did it to him ( she must of loved that haha)....I'm hoping Clinton does it next as Bush challenged him to do it 🙂

Good for Mitt. If he donated $10,000, then I'll match him with $100.

Look – I don't like the guy personally, I don't like his politics, and I don't like... well, most things about him. But who on earth would complain about this? Good for him.
