Clinton ignores questions on Ferguson

Westhampton Beach, New York (CNN) - Hillary Clinton, who has yet to comment about the protests over the death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, ignored questions about the incident on Sunday.

After signing more than 700 books at Books & Books in Westhampton Beach, Clinton was asked by two reporters for her reaction to the controversy.

Clinton ignored both questions and left the bookstore.

Liberal activists and civil rights leaders have asked Clinton for her response, saying she is the presumed front-runner for her party's presidential nomination in 2016 and that she has commented on major news stories in the past.

Michael Brown was shot dead earlier this month by a Missouri police officer. The shooting sparked large protests in the St. Louis suburb, which were highlighted by looting and a sizable police presence.

Attorney General Eric Holder visited Ferguson last week to check in on the federal civil rights investigation into the shooting, and President Barack Obama's White House has begun to look into the equipment the federal government provides to police forces.

At a rally earlier this month about the killing, Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights leader and host on MSNBC, said, "Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, don’t get laryngitis on this issue."

He then added, "Nobody can go to the White House unless they stop by our house and talk about policing."

Clinton was well received in the tony New York beach town. Countless attendees urged her to run for president and some even demanded that she do so.

"You've gotta run," said one woman. "I want to vote for you." Another tried guilt, telling Clinton that voting for her was on her bucket list. "You can't deny me of that, right," she added.

Clinton also slightly tipped her hand on running a few times.

When one man said his brother was her youngest canvasser during her failed 2008 bid, Clinton respond with a smile, "Keep up your strength."

Another man asked Clinton for her campaign contact, to which the former first lady replied, "Oh, I don't have a campaign yet."

Two attendees offered mild protest to the former secretary of state. One asked a question about the United States' role in Iran and another said he disapproved of the way Clinton handled the Arab Spring.

In the latter case, Clinton urged the man to read her book.

Hillary will not answer tough questions. Hillary will not tackle difficult situations. All Hillary wants is 4 cushy do nothing years in the Oval Office. I would rather have a trained seal be president

Al Sharpton STILL hasn't figured out as long as 90+% of blacks are beholden to the Democratic Party no matter what, that NOBODY has to listen to them (nor will they, other than pay them lip service). It's been like that for the past 50 years.

Turns out Lyndon Johnson was right when he made his racists statements about "blacks" (not the word HE used) voting Democratic for the next 200 years.

Hillary is pro-war, pro-intervention, pro-violence. Why would it be surprising she remained silent about Mike Brown and Ferguson? She probably enjoyed watching YouTube clips of black folks getting teargassed and threatened at gunpoint by Militarized police. Rand Paul, on the other hand, is opposite Hillary. 2016 should be fun.

Surely the Democrats can find somebody mildly qualified to be POTUS. Hillary is not what this country needs. She is the national embarassment.

Why would she comment on Ferguson? There is no need. There are systems in place to address what happened in Ferguson. There is no need to elevate the Brown scenario to a national level. If the cop is guilty, then the justice system will take care of it. This whole notion that this case should get special attention is preposterous.

How can we expect to take an article seriously when it contains blatant lies?

"Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights leader”...that’s insulting to the term “leader"

Clinton needs to retire and enjoy her wealth and her grandchildren. She would definitely not make a good president.
I sure wish we could get some intelligent candidates this time who can run the "show".

Smart woman. She knows where 95% of the nation stands on this so she made a wise move. In retrospect,t if a Democrat had to win it should have been her in the White House.

Good...it's a no win...the problems in Ferguson will not be solved by convicting the officer or getting rid of bad cops in general. They run much deeper and the community prefers to ignore the real issues.

The logic that it does not matter what Brown was doing before the incident contrasts with the need to know the officers name so his past – even things that happened years ago – can be considered...not to mention the constant discussion of things that happened over one hundred years ago.

Take this as a sign of things to come if this country is stupid enough to give her the Oval Office.

Wise not to address this question. Anything she would have said would have thrown fuel on the fire.

Hillary's no dummy. She isn't going to take a side in the Fergusson fight until she figures out who the good guys really are. Democrats had Bergdhal, and the GOP had Cliven Bundy. Hillary paid attention.

Have these reporters no shame? The poor woman is in the Hamptons getting in touch with 'real Americans' and sell her book since she and Bill were penniless when they left the White House. They should just leave her alone.

Since the evidence is not in, the only appropriate thing to say is no comment. Too bad the rest of the politicians and other hacks didn't do the same thing.

The voice of silence among politicians on the Michael Brown issue is the same as saying 'Am I my brothers keeper'. Every leader current and future is the upholder of citizens rights. To stay silent, is to deny justice. To deny or delay justice is INJUSTICE. There is no greater injustice today than the denial of justice and the huge injustices by the upholders and lawmakers of this nation. For ever leader, lawmaker, law-upholder and preacher, the bible has one message, 'Even if you have given a tenth of your money for good causes, it is not enough, because the cause of justice, mercy and faithfulness are just as important (Matthew 23 Vs 13-24). The system of justice that punishes the poor, helpless, innocent and places unfair burdens on them in the name of profit is detestable in the eyes of God. When we use the system of Justice as a means of profit, power and political leverage instead of mercy and restoration, we are using the tools that God has given us to help people, instead, to hurt them. How will they answer for this in the presence of the mighty one. They will be called upon, not just to answer for their own misdeeds, but for not stopping those of others and for letting a corrupt system prevail to save their jobs and positions. On that day, there will be no excuses.

Why do we expect everyone to have a comment? She wasn't there and is not involved in the investigation. She knows – or doesn't know – anymore than the rest of us. I have never been a supporter of hers, but I am glad she didn't address what she doesn't know. I wish more would do the same.

There is no good position on Furgeson right now.
    AND
ANYTHING that she says will be used against her, SO, staying mum on the topic is the best action.
It is legally, politically AND socially astute.

Why does anyone have to answer questions about the Ferguson shooting. The facts are that the officer acted in self-defense and the kid got what he was seeking. All my questions have been answered.
