Clinton ignores questions on Ferguson

Westhampton Beach, New York (CNN) - Hillary Clinton, who has yet to comment about the protests over the death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, ignored questions about the incident on Sunday.

After signing more than 700 books at Books & Books in Westhampton Beach, Clinton was asked by two reporters for her reaction to the controversy.

Clinton ignored both questions and left the bookstore.

Liberal activists and civil rights leaders have asked Clinton for her response, saying she is the presumed front-runner for her party's presidential nomination in 2016 and that she has commented on major news stories in the past.

Michael Brown was shot dead earlier this month by a Missouri police officer. The shooting sparked large protests in the St. Louis suburb, which were highlighted by looting and a sizable police presence.

Attorney General Eric Holder visited Ferguson last week to check in on the federal civil rights investigation into the shooting, and President Barack Obama's White House has begun to look into the equipment the federal government provides to police forces.

At a rally earlier this month about the killing, Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights leader and host on MSNBC, said, "Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, don’t get laryngitis on this issue."

He then added, "Nobody can go to the White House unless they stop by our house and talk about policing."

Clinton was well received in the tony New York beach town. Countless attendees urged her to run for president and some even demanded that she do so.

"You've gotta run," said one woman. "I want to vote for you." Another tried guilt, telling Clinton that voting for her was on her bucket list. "You can't deny me of that, right," she added.

Clinton also slightly tipped her hand on running a few times.

When one man said his brother was her youngest canvasser during her failed 2008 bid, Clinton respond with a smile, "Keep up your strength."

Another man asked Clinton for her campaign contact, to which the former first lady replied, "Oh, I don't have a campaign yet."

Two attendees offered mild protest to the former secretary of state. One asked a question about the United States' role in Iran and another said he disapproved of the way Clinton handled the Arab Spring.

In the latter case, Clinton urged the man to read her book.

This is why Hillary Clinton is not presidential material. She is not a leader, definitely not the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

This Grandma doesn't need to be in the WH. She may get in there, but it won't be good for America.

    Hillary certainly isn't stupid.
One of the ways that she'll distance herself from Obama is to remind people that, unlike him, she's white.

She refused to put her foot in her mouth again. Wise decision.

Just another politician who does not want to tick off her base.

She is as incapable of true leadership as Obama. They simply don't get it.

She should avoid playing into the media. Evidence will soon be released that will show Brown was the aggressor and Wilson had all grounds to defend himself. Holder and Obama are already backpedaling, watch their wheels spin over the next few weeks and the media shove the whole matter out of site because of the rush to judgement.

Way too many people in this country do nothing be complain, but then they don't vote! If you don't vote, keep your mouth shut! If you don't vote, you don't have the 'right' to complain!

Of course she ignores the questions. Hillary only does what is politicaly expedient. If she stands up for truth and the officer, she loses the support of the angry black voters. If she stands up for the angry black voters she knows she will be proven wrong. This woman is NOT presidential material. Even the Democrats can do far better.

How can you describe a charging, drug controlled, 300 pound man who has just beaten a store clerk and broken the skull of a police office unarmed? The far left media is really sick with how they spin the news to support their warped political agenda.

Yup. Clinton will ignore anything that actually requires having some heart, opinion or that has not been scripted for her.

Why would she talk about controversial items that can and will be held against her. Blame, run, deflect is the mantra of most politicians and especially Hillary. She has no tact like Bill.

Of course she ignores the questions. By answering she may have to risk making an error or saying something that bothers someone. That's why she didn't continue on in her role as Secretary of State. She may have had to make a decision that would have risked her run for the presidency. That's what we need, one more politician for whom getting elected is more important than actually taking a stance or doing something. The only thing she has shown me in her public service record is she would rather quit than risk making a mistake.

It is puzzling that Clinton wouldn't at least have a middle of the road opinion on something that will hurt the next couple of presidents at least. I thought she was a social conservative, unless her husband, but this takes my assumption to a new level.

Elizabeth Warren certainly would not have backed down from such an important "presidential" question.

There is nothing to say about the situation. If she doesn't say what the blacks want to hear, she is screwed. She clearly realizes that cop had every right to shoot because his life was threatened when Brown reached for his weapon. No story here, other than Hillary knows the truth!

Seems a little too cowardly to ignore it until more is known. She wants to be on the side that grants her the most votes and I respect her less for it. Maybe that sounds harsh, but I appreciate people who take a stand and take a position without conferring with people to get her thoughts 'vetted' before speaking.

What's so hard about saying the incident is under investigation and that she's concerned about what happened. That's all, not that hard...
