Clinton ignores questions on Ferguson

Westhampton Beach, New York (CNN) - Hillary Clinton, who has yet to comment about the protests over the death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, ignored questions about the incident on Sunday.

After signing more than 700 books at Books & Books in Westhampton Beach, Clinton was asked by two reporters for her reaction to the controversy.

Clinton ignored both questions and left the bookstore.

Liberal activists and civil rights leaders have asked Clinton for her response, saying she is the presumed front-runner for her party's presidential nomination in 2016 and that she has commented on major news stories in the past.

Michael Brown was shot dead earlier this month by a Missouri police officer. The shooting sparked large protests in the St. Louis suburb, which were highlighted by looting and a sizable police presence.

Attorney General Eric Holder visited Ferguson last week to check in on the federal civil rights investigation into the shooting, and President Barack Obama's White House has begun to look into the equipment the federal government provides to police forces.

At a rally earlier this month about the killing, Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights leader and host on MSNBC, said, "Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, don’t get laryngitis on this issue."

He then added, "Nobody can go to the White House unless they stop by our house and talk about policing."

Clinton was well received in the tony New York beach town. Countless attendees urged her to run for president and some even demanded that she do so.

"You've gotta run," said one woman. "I want to vote for you." Another tried guilt, telling Clinton that voting for her was on her bucket list. "You can't deny me of that, right," she added.

Clinton also slightly tipped her hand on running a few times.

When one man said his brother was her youngest canvasser during her failed 2008 bid, Clinton respond with a smile, "Keep up your strength."

Another man asked Clinton for her campaign contact, to which the former first lady replied, "Oh, I don't have a campaign yet."

Two attendees offered mild protest to the former secretary of state. One asked a question about the United States' role in Iran and another said he disapproved of the way Clinton handled the Arab Spring.

In the latter case, Clinton urged the man to read her book.

If Hillary dodges the question she should not be elected president. This issue is very important to our country therefore should not be blown off by a presidential candidate.

Does not surprise me the least. She dumped on Obama. Now she is dumping on African American youth. She is pandering to the rich and whites, wall street, weapons manufacturers whose vote she needs. She takes African Americans, Poor, for granted. She is the most self severing person who even dumped on Monica her husband used to service him sexually.

Its not her place to comment. I'm not happy that Obama is sending 3 aides to Michael Brown's funeral. Are you kidding me, according to surveillance cameras, he committed a strong armed robbery and threatened the clerk, who was about a third of his size. Before my tax dollars are spent on that trip, send the aides to the funeral of the police chief who was killed in a traffic stop in Texas. Send the aides to the funerals of our military personnel being killed. Wonder if he would have let his daughter date Michael Brown, I seriously doubt it.

Did you really expect Hillary to make a comment regarding any politics without Bill there to write the script????

Im afraid that an elected Hillary could be another 4 yrs of Obama and thats the LAST THING this country needs. Maybe we should write in F.D.R. She is a great gal but1 IM NOT SURE how the country would fare.

Sharpton's house? I didn't know that was on the campaign trail.

If she gets nominated, the blacks will vote for her. The democrats really don't need to pander anymore. The blacks are theirs to command

6 hours since this was posted. Can't believe Hillary went unscathed for that long.

She will have something to say as soon as she consults her pollsters.

Americans deserve better leadership than what she can offer. Or maybe they don't...

I'd think twice about voting for her. She's sneaky, dishonest and guilty of the deaths of those killed in Benghazi. And if she's not answering questions now, you can be rest assured she wont answer to questions or back up what she says like Obama, she's his puppet and she's learning to do the same as him........She's a distrustful person as her husband was......just ask Monica....

It's called "protecting your lead." Sports teams do it all the time. But sometimes it costs them the victory.

Maybe she's not commenting until she knows more about what happened. Otherwise what can she say? If the kid was shot unnecessarily the the cop needs to go to jail. If the cop had cause to shoot – because the kid was attacking him – then people need to get over it – or at least get over the protests.

Hillary does not have enough poll data yet on the events in Ferguson to voice an opinion. Until then, she will just continue to charge $250K per speech until she officially announces her intention to run for office again.

  20. Former republican, now an independent

Hillary Clinton is a very intelligent person and knows that all of these politicians who are jumping into this discussion are doing it for political traction and not helping the situation in Ferguson at all. To the contrary, they are making matters worse but they don't care. To those politicians, their political standing is much more important than people!

Clinton wants the issue to die away. She needs a militarized police force for what she plans to do to the USA.

Why should she, first the cop has not made a statement publicly. He has not been charged yet . I believe he will and then some may ask her. And then really it is up to a jury to decide. People who sit in the court room and listen to ALL THE EVIDENCE.

Smart move Hillary. Wait for the facts to come out before you take a position. This is one time that jumping on the Liberal Band Wagon. Could take you right off the cliff. Especially if the Grand Jury finds Officer Wilson was not at fault in the shooting. Which seems more likely by the day. The more we learn about Big Mike and his BFF. Dorian. The more people realize that Officer Wilson was the victim.

Best thing she could have done, because if she did comment no matter what she said both sides would use it against her or for their agenda and of course the Biased media would have spun their own tale depending on which side they were on
