Rand Paul: If 'Hillary Clinton worked for Bill Clinton, she'd probably have been fired'

(CNN) – Sen. Rand Paul on Friday defended his criticism of Hillary Clinton over the 2012 attack against a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

The Kentucky Republican, rebutting claims that Benghazi criticism is "politically motivated," said Clinton's handling of the attack was a legitimate topic of discussion as she considers a presidential bid.

"There will be discussion over the next four years whether or not Hillary Clinton is fit to lead this country," he said at a Dallas event hosted by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity. "Is Hillary Clinton fit to be commander in chief?"

The audience fired off a robust round of 'no's.

The first-term senator went on to compare Benghazi to the 1993 mission in Mogadishu, Somalia, in which 18 U.S. military members were killed. Two months after the tragedy, President Bill Clinton announced the resignation of Les Aspin, then secretary of the defense. Aspin had taken heat for denying security requests for U.S. forces in the region just a month before the attack.

"He ignored the request and he resigned ultimately in disgrace," Paul said. "I think had Hillary Clinton worked for Bill Clinton, she'd probably have been fired."

Paul has been hounding Clinton over foreign policy and Benghazi for the past year, and he frequently brings up the former secretary of state as he lays his own groundwork for a possible presidential campaign.

In an interview earlier this summer, Clinton was asked about Paul's attacks, specifically about a separate claim he has made, saying Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky could be a liability if Hillary Clinton runs for president.

"He can talk about whatever he wants to talk about," Clinton responded. "And if he decides to run, he'll be fair game too."

No need for hypotheticals. Hillary actually was effectively fired by Bill in 1994 after Hillarycare died in Congress and Democrats lost their majorities. She had been acting as a very public and very vocal senior adviser and legislative coordinator, then suddenly she stepped back into the traditional demure First Lady role and stayed there until 1999 when she began her Senate campaign. If she hadn't been his wife she wouldn't been on the pavement looking for another job.

-there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT HEALTHCARE PLAN. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT SAYING TOO. WHAT DO YOU WANT? When companies deny–so only president has MANDATED–if you are 50 or more employees–you must PROVIDE INSURANCE. Why don't you cry on it, idiot. Tell you, this president has GUTS TO SIGN THIS NEEDED LAW. NO MORE OUTCRY. ENOUGH. WE HEARD. PERIOD.
    - shows your true face, PROVIDE insurance! you want it FREE and then DEMAND what YOU want covered.

And if Rand Paul had worked for his father when he was unable to to keep himself 'Board Certified' and had to create his own Phony 'Board' to certify himself, I'm sure his father would have fired him too. Sorry Randy..you have no room to throw stones on a 'controversy' that fizzled long ago.

The immaturity of Rand Paul has set an astonishingly low bar for GOP candidates running for President of the United States of America. Chris Christie is running across America hoping to surpass Rand Paul's level of immature incompetence. Lagging behind the bad boys "Jocks R Us" crowd are the two "newest and rising-est" stars: Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.

Hear, hear for the Jocks R Us 2016 contenders.

And if Kitty Carlisle had married Conway Twitty she would have been known as Kitty Twitty – makes about the same sense.. What the heck is under that bird's nest on his head?

Jason – By embarrass, do you mean he is going to say something personal about Hillary, when he gives his concession speech in 2016?

See, the problem with Mr. Paul is that he falls prey to every nutterbutter GOP anti-government idea- like that something (anything) occurred in Benghazi that anyone could consider as conspiratorial, criminal, intentional, or otherwise delusional issues they invent to rile up their simpleton supporters. The GOP actually revealed nothing happened at Benghazi that anyone could be held accountable for, yet here is Paul, declaring "why if, then, ergo" when everything he's prattling on about is pure fiction. He is by definition, despite all of his faux-libertairian chatter, nothing but another government shutdown, pro-rich hack from the Right with the GOP label sewn in.
Quite a suitable member of the GOP Presidential Clown Car.

its very obvious to many. That Hillary ALLREADY HAS BEEN FIRED BY BILl CLINTON..! They are NEVER seen together. He is NOT endorsing her or campaigning for her anywhere. They are not together at all by the normal term of marriage. So.? Its simple to see. Never went with her on ANY of her book tours. Its called a estranged marriage. The final step of the divorce filing. And if she dont get the nomination.. Or election. Absolutly BET that divorce will be filed fast if she dont get what she wants.. The oval office. And driving over anything she can in any way possible to get there. If dont work.. She will divorce Bill in a heartbeat. Bet on that as a not maybe. But a positivly..

    An interesting point :

Clinton : He can say what he wants to say. And if he decides to run he will be fair game TOO.

TOO ? As in Clinton is fair game because she has already decided to run? How Freudian of her.

Rand Paul is so desperate for attention that he'll spew these irrelevant arguments. Yet, when there comes a time to take a stance, he ran away from a Dreamer girl because he is a coward and WRONG FOR AMERICA.

It's easy to knock somebody else's record when you have no record of your own to worry about defending.

Where in my statement did I make him God? All I said was that he works with the opposing party. That's all I said. Nothing more, nothing less. And all ii pointed out was the vitriol thrown at him from the left. That's all I said. I did not make him out to be God or a savior or anything of the sort. That is you twisting what I said and taking a simple statement and taking it to the extreme. And you take that minute statement and turn it into all out worshipping. You are applying your thiought proxies that saying something positive about someone then must mean I support everything he says and does. I don't. Rand Paul is far from perfect. He has teamed up with Holder, Reid, Booker, Gillebrand and others. Thats a fact. Give me an example of anyone else in congress from either party that has done that. That's all I was saying. Stop taking my words and exaggerating them.
