McConnell has substantial fundraising advantage in Senate race

Washington (CNN) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s re-election team announced Friday that it added $2.2 million to its war chest, a sum that far outpaces the Kentucky Republican’s bipartisan challengers.

McConnell, who’s been fundraising for years with eyes on a sixth term in the Senate, has raised a total of $20 million for the race and ended 2013 with $10.9 million left in the bank.

McConnell out with first re-election spots of the year

(CNN) -  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is out with a new TV commercial that his team touts as its first major buy for the Kentucky Republican's 2014 re-election campaign.

McConnell's campaign says it's spending six figures over the next two weeks to run the positive ad statewide. The spot features a Kentucky resident named Robert Pierce, who says McConnell helped him recover from throat cancer.

Republican campaign group hit for sexist move

(CNN) - The National Republican Senatorial Committee said it took disciplinary action after a staffer tweeted a link about Alison Lundergan Grimes that her campaign called sexist.

The link directed readers to a blog post titled "Grimes Is The New 'Obama Girl'?" on the website, BluegrassBulletin.com.

Sparks fly in Senate race at Kentucky's Fancy Farm picnic

It's one of the country's hallmark political slugfests. And on Saturday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was dealt a large portion of the blows.

At Kentucky's annual Fancy Farm picnic, politicians from the state gather at the event hosted by St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Graves County, tucked away in the southwest corner of the Blue Grass State.

Web wars start early in crucial 2014 Senate battle

(CNN) - The first website dedicated to Alison Lundergan Grimes' Democratic challenge to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell had no connection to the candidate. Instead it belonged to the GOP.

Two days after Kentucky's secretary of state announced Monday that she would launch a bid to take on the five-term senator, GrimesForSenate.org went up online, courtesy of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
