Two longtime House Democrats to retire

Washington (CNN) – Two longtime House Democrats–Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of New York and Rep. Mike McIntyre of North Carolina–announced Wednesday they won't seek re-election in November.

Their decisions bring the total number of House Democratic retirements to three. On the other side of the aisle, nine House Republicans have announced they're retiring after 2014.

Pelosi, House Democrats push for quick action on gun laws

Washington (CNN) - Joining a chorus of voices wanting tougher gun laws, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi took her own step towards reform Wednesday by announcing a new task force on preventing gun violence.

"Here in Congress, what we need now are not more words. What we need is action," Pelosi said, announcing Rep. Mike Thompson, a wounded Vietnam veteran and "avid hunter" from California, as the leader of the group.

Frustration with Weiner grows among House Democrats

Washington (CNN) - When fed up House Democratic leaders called on Anthony Weiner to resign last weekend, they were hoping to keep what they consider a disruptive political distraction from entering a third week.

But Weiner did not step down, and Tuesday outside the House Democrats first meeting since Weiner admitted to sending lewd Twitter messages, frustration among some of his colleagues was palpable.
