(CNN) - A co-chair of Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel's transition team resigned from her new post Friday after it was revealed that she left her high-level state job last summer over ethics violations, CNN confirmed Saturday.
Judy Erwin previously served as the executive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education and served on then-candidate Barack Obama's Education Policy Committee during his 2008 presidential campaign. On Thursday, she was named to Emanuel's transition team and according to a news release, Erwin was also recently hired as managing director for ASGK Public Strategies, the communication management firm founded by former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod.
Chicago, Illinois (CNN) - Rahm Emanuel greeted voters on Chicago's South Side Wednesday morning – the day after his resounding victory to become the city's next mayor.
His choice of an "L" train station in the heart of the city's African American community symbolized his successful efforts to reach out to that community during his campaign. He captured about half of the votes in wards with large populations of African-Americans in Tuesday's election.

Update: President Obama and Rahm Emanuel spoke by telephone Tuesday night after the election results were known and before Emanuel spoke, an Emanuel campaign aide confirms to CNN.
Chicago (CNN) - Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama, won the Chicago mayoral election over five other challengers Tuesday, topping the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff vote.
With almost 75% of the vote counted, Emanuel had almost 55% of the vote, far outdistancing his rivals.

Chicago, Illinois (CNN) - Amid a snowfall of a couple of inches, voters headed to the polls Tuesday morning to elect their first new mayor since 1989.
Candidates were hitting the streets hoping to rally voters. Frontrunner Rahm Emanuel, who previously cast his ballot in early voting, was shaking hands at an "L" train stop Tuesday morning while Gery Chico was hitting some polling stations and will vote later Tuesday morning. Carol Moseley Braun was going to her polling place to cast her ballot. Miguel del Valle, who also early voted, was also visiting polling stations throughout the city.

Chicago (CNN) - When Rahm Emanuel entered the race to succeed Richard Daley as mayor of Chicago in November, he was far from the front-runner.
Despite the fact that he was a native of the city, served three terms as a congressman and was chief of staff to President Barack Obama and a key aide to President Bill Clinton, he was not well-known to much of the population.

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama says he isn't making any calls back to his hometown of Chicago in support of Rahm Emanuel, his former chief of staff who's running for the city's mayor.
At a news conference Tuesday, in responding to a question of whether he's making calls for Emanuel's mayoral campaign, the president indicated that Emanuel's doing fine without his assistance, saying "I don't have to make calls for Rahm Emanuel. He seems to be doing just fine on his own. You know, he's been very busy shoveling snow out there. I've been very impressed with it. I never saw him shoveling around here."

(CNN) - With 11 days to go until Chicago's mayoral election, a new poll indicates that front-runner Rahm Emanuel is closing in on the crucial 50 percent threshold, which would prevent the need for a runoff in April.
According to a Chicago Tribune/WGN survey, 49 percent of the city's voters back the former White House chief of staff for mayor, with former Chicago Board of Education president Gery Chico at 19 percent, former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun at 10 percent, City Clerk Miguel del Valle at eight percent and 12 percent undecided.

Washington (CNN) -One of Chicago mayoral candidate Carol Moseley Braun's opponents is urging her to withdraw from the contest citing what she terms her "volatility" and "insensitivity."
This comes after the two women exchanged fiery words on Sunday – with the former senator accusing her opponent of previously being "strung out on crack." Moseley Braun later apologized for the remarks.
