McCain: Fire the joint chiefs chairman, too

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain added Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey to his list of people the President should fire over the deteriorating situation in Iraq.

In an interview Friday on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” the Arizona Republican also called for the United States to conduct airstrikes in Iraq to stop advances by the militant group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

Rubio: Bergdahl swap puts Americans in danger

(CNN) - Marco Rubio on Wednesday added his voice to GOP-fueled criticism over the U.S. decision to swap five terror detainees for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Rubio told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that President Barack Obama, by authorizing the swap, has endangered “countless American men and women in uniform across the globe."

Valerie Plame: CIA outing 'colossally stupid'

(CNN) - Another CIA official whose cover was blown by a presidential administration said the inadvertent outing of an intelligence official in Afghanistan by the White House was “colossally stupid” and will have repercussions for the intelligence community.

But Valerie Plame, whose identity was infamously leaked by the Bush administration in 2003 and touched off a scandal, said on Wednesday it’s an apples to oranges comparison as it appears to be a mistake, rather than a malicious takedown.

White House orders review of accidental CIA leak

(CNN) - White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough has ordered a review of how the name of the CIA station chief in Afghanistan was inadvertently released to reporters, Deputy National Security Advisor Antony Blinken told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

"It shouldn't have happened. We're trying to figure out why it happened. In fact, Chief of Staff Denis McDonough asked the White House consel to look into it, to figure out what happened and to make sure it won't happen again," Blinken said in an interview that will air Tuesday on "The Situation Room" at 5 p.m. ET.

Former VA secretary: Obama's ‘not taking responsibility’ for agency's misconduct

(CNN) - Former Veterans Affairs chief Jim Nicholson said President Barack Obama is "not taking responsibility" for the ongoing scandal that has rocked the agency under his administration's watch.

In an interview on Friday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Nicholson also hit back at Obama’s sharp criticism of his tenure leading the VA, calling into question the former senator’s commitment to the cause when he severed on the Veterans Affairs Committee.

"He was on the committee but he never showed up," Nicholson said, appearing on "The Situation Room."

Pelosi: Dems still uncertain on Benghazi panel, Rove comments make Hillary stronger

(CNN) - Nearly a week after the Republican-led House approved a select committee to investigate the terror attack in Benghazi, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi indicates there’s been no decision from her caucus on whether to join the effort.

"We'll see," the California congresswoman said on Wednesday when asked by CNN's Wolf Blitzer if Democrats would participate.

Rubio on 2016: Clinton would 'struggle'

(CNN) – Sen. Marco Rubio questioned how formidable a candidate Hillary Clinton would be if she runs for the White House again.

And Rubio, in an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," indicated that he and his political mentor, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, could potentially go head-to-head as they both weigh 2016 presidential bids.

(CNN) – Mitt Romney stressed he is not going to run for president in 2016, despite recent speculation that there could be support for a third Romney run.
