Dems pick up another seat in House

(CNN) – Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren of California will lose his battle for re-election against Ami Bera, CNN projected Thursday, meaning Democrats will pick up another seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Vote tallies from the Sacramento County elections office show Bera leads Lungren 51.1% to 48.9%, with a raw vote margin of 5,696.

Democratic PAC ads target possible swing seats in House

(CNN) – Democratic group House Majority PAC set its sights on one freshman and one veteran congressman with new ads to be released Friday in their continued effort to return control of the House of Representatives to the Democrats.

Two Republican lawmakers, freshman Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy and nine-term California Rep. Dan Lungren, are the subjects of new cable spots set to air during the August recess. The 30-second commercials were produced to “hold vulnerable House Republicans accountable” for “misguided priorities” and “votes to sell out the middle class,” according to a statement released by the political action committee.

Your representative can now Skype you

Washington (CNN) - House members and their staff will now be able to use video conference technology like Skype to communicate with their constituents back in their districts when they are in Washington or with each other when Congress is not in session.

House Administration Committee Chairman Dan Lungren and Utah Rep Jason Chaffetz, (R-Utah), who heads up the House panel overseeing technology issues, announced the chamber's ban on the technology was lifted in a joint statement on Tuesday. Earlier concerns over technology and security appear to have been worked out.

Styrofoam makes a comeback in House cafeterias

Washington (CNN) - An old standard is being reintroduced in cafeterias throughout the Capitol: Styrofoam cups.

A little over a month after taking control of the House, Republicans have changed a pivotal element of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's "Green the Capitol" initiative. Since 2007, non-recyclable, Styrofoam cups were replaced with environmentally friendly biodegradable cups.

Congressman pulled over on live radio

Washington (CNN) - A traffic stop can be unnerving enough, but try it with thousands of people listening in as you're pulled over.

Police in suburban Washington stopped Congressman Dan Lungren, R-California, on his way to work Friday morning, right in the middle of a live interview with a radio station in his home district.

Just as CNN Radio affiliate KFBK in Sacramento began the interview on Lungren's International Megan's Law bill, listeners heard the officer say sternly "can you hang up the phone, sir?"
