Eulogists remember Ed Koch, New York City's 'quintessential mayor'

New York (CNN) - An organ played "New York, New York" as pallbearers - from the New York City Police Department - carried the simple wooden casket with a Star of David through hundreds of admirers, friends, family members and dignitaries, and out of the Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan on Monday to lay to rest the city's brash and outspoken three-term former mayor, Ed Koch, who died of congestive heart failure on Friday.

He was 88.

New York's brash former mayor, Ed Koch, dies at 88

(CNN) - Ed Koch, the brash former New York City mayor who typically greeted constituents with a "How'm I doin'?" died Friday at the age of 88, his spokesman said.

Koch died of congestive heart failure, spokesman George Arzt said.

Ex-New York Mayor Ed Koch placed in intensive care

(CNN) - Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has been placed in the intensive care unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, his spokesman said Thursday.

Koch spokesman George Arzt, who spoke to the former mayor this morning, told CNN affiliate WCBS that the mayor "was in obvious discomfort."

Ed Koch reverses track, backs Obama

(CNN) - Just weeks after Ed Koch sought to send a message to the White House on Israel by helping the GOP win a high-profile special election, the former New York City mayor said he's back on course with President Barack Obama.

"I believe the recent vote in the 9th Congressional District in New York affected in a positive way the policy of the U.S. on the Mideast," Koch said in a statement Tuesday, citing Obama's speech at the United Nations last week. "I'm now on board the Obama Reelection Express."

Ed Koch backs Republican in Weiner's old district

(CNN) - As the special election to replace former Rep. Anthony Weiner heats up in Brooklyn and Queens, the Republican candidate, Bob Turner, received a ringing endorsement Monday from one of the Empire State's top Democrats.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch announced his support Monday for Turner amid his hopes that the special election in the 9th congressional district, a strongly Jewish area, will become a referendum on President Barack Obama's policies on Israel.

Despite criticism, New York to rename famous bridge after former mayor

(CNN) - An iconic New York City bridge will soon have a new name, paying tribute to the city's charismatic former Democratic Mayor Ed Koch.

The city council voted 38 to 12 Wednesday to rename the Queensboro Bridge the "Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge." Koch rose to national prominence during his twelve years as mayor of the Big Apple during the 1970's and 1980's.
